I'm hoping for a patch if its that bad...i don't see bioware leaving us hanging if its that bad

Just wait and see, because it is at least mediocre graphics and I can't seem to change things like I wanted too.

So, word to the wise. If you see a giant cow thing, do not I repeat do not shoot at it. I don't care how trigger happy you are feeling after murdering countless nugs and goats. You see it is not actually a cow; it is a beast from hell who will chase you back to Haven and glare at you from the gates while you stand just beyond the threshold cowering like the milk-drinker you are.

Oh my god! I am so sorry to see yours arrived like that, R2. *hugs* 

 

I live a two hour drive away from the nearest EB store so if mine comes like that it is going to be such a hassle to get it sorted out. I can't just drop it off while on the school run or anything like that. I hope yours gets sorted quickly. I have read that you get a $10 voucher for the inconvenience. Don't go spending it all at once.  

Oh! He didn't tell me I was getting a voucher! Hmm. 

 

Good news is I was thinking of returning it anyway, so now am I glad I opened it instead of just returning it and getting blamed for it being broken!

Agreed. I thought I'd attack it in case it dropped something my precious baby Inquisition could use, but all I got was a Codex entry and ~10 minutes of running away and pecking at its massive armor with my blips of magic. ಠ_ಠ

Think I encountered a bug...

 

I'm trying to level up, and I see the message, in red, "Some features on this screen are currently unavailable." I can't choose any abilities/effects even though it says I have 1 point to spend.

 

Or maybe it's not a bug and I'm just not understanding what's happening?

I've spent all day battling the dreaded DirectX CTD bug. It was particularly vicious in Haven. I had t save after every successful cut scene because the next one was libel to crash my game.

 

However, once I got to the Hinterlands, I did manage to enjoy a good amount of uninterrupted gameplay, including one humorous episode when I was indulging in a bottle of hard cider and started chasing nugs. I chased one down a pretty narrow gorge, and somehow I shot it just as it tried to go over a tree snag. It got caught up in the tree, and while I was leaping around trying to figure out how to loot it, a rift I had not noticed starting dropping level 12 demons on my poor little level 5 party. Seeing as how I was, erm, tipsy, we did not get away in good order.

 

Moral of the story - Do not indulge in wild nug chases into blind gorges when drunk.

I'm instructed to mount "the chestnut" waiting for me in the stables... I look around, don't see any chestnut horses. There's a bay horse with a saddle on it. I go over to it... sure enough, that's my horse. A very bay, very not-chestnut horse.

How do you defeate the stupid pride demon in the prologue? The stupid rift thing can't even close urge to kill rising.

Yeah, that is a definite bay. I've also noticed some bits in the subtitles where the proofer missed stuff. And I'm not talking about the dialogue not exactly matching, but the actual grammar being wrong in the subtitles or one word clearly should have been another.

Dang! Had to restart my computer AGAIN b/c of the DirectX error.
 
I have everything on high except mesh, which is on ultra. PC savvy folks... any suggestions on what I should lower to medium? 

I'm not PC savvy, but this worked for me.

I changed the setting where it said "custom" can't remember what setting it actually was but it was the first one and it would change all settings. I set it to medium and then changed the mesh to ultra.

I was getting skipping on the video and it fixed it. I don't think the graphics look bad either. It could be just me but I honestly don't see a difference between these settings and the ultra high ones. Just runs a lot smoother for me.

Tips on getting her eye shadow so dark? Mine is so light even at max intensity and black.

No freaking kidding. I almost think this was a mistake. This "casual" difficulty setting is NOT for casual players. It's for experienced RPG players (which I really am not). I keep dying and there are even some fights in the Hinterlands (FIRST level) that I can't engage in b/c I die after the first hit.

Let me see if i remember the eye lid and eye liner I left in the red color ans moved it to the bottom right cornor and the upper brow i did as a greyish tone to make it srand out.

I found that maxing out the intensity first and then doing the colour worked best. Then I would go back and adjust the intensity as needed.

I'm freaking out! I played on normal in the 6 hour trial and I did pretty well, but I am thinking that maybe as I get further into the game I will get my ass handed to me on a platter. And to think I was considering on playing on hard after doing my 6 hours. Nope.... noopppppe.
