I really have no desire whatsoever to see Cullen or my Femquisitor in any other games, I feel the ending to this is hopeful enough for their future without needing them potentially separated or forced into "ultimate sacrifice" scenarios. It seems like this is the final bow for his character already, given that his development really comes full circle within his romance arc.
Amen to that!
I have a real hatred for that whole forced sacrifice thing in general... you can already guess what my reaction was to the ME3 ending, LOL! My issue with it is that we're always made to believe that our protagonist isn't the developers character with whom you play as, like, for example, Lee from The Walking Dead... sure, it was sad that he died BUT he was never your character, you just played as him. However, in BioWare games the protagonist is essentially our own creation, we choose what they look like, we make decisions to craft their personality, we decide what choices they make right or wrong, and who they befriend and/or romance (within the games limitations), and they specifically tell you and heavily market it as being YOUR character.
Now, I get that once the game is over the protagonist is no longer considered yours (according to Gaider) but he/she still is in the sense that you created them and any cameos they make in future games is a direct result of whatever choices you made, so to have something like forced sacrifices pushed onto you feels like a cheap move to provoke a reaction (to me). Why not leave their fate in your hands, since they're still your character in some sense of the word. I also take some issue when your romance option is also forcibly killed/permanently separated from the protagonist in future games, granted they definitely aren't your character but they do play a part in your characters story in a big way which all came down to the choices you made.
I guess I just don't really understand why the minute the game is over our ability to have any say in what happens to our past protagonist becomes null and void to the point where sometimes you have to completely change who he/she was and make a bunch of changes to your past "canon saves" that shouldn't necessarily need to be made just to ensure that they don't die in a way that is entirely out of your control, or risk lose the love of their life in the process/whatever.
Ok, I'm done ranting now lol.
