I haven't finished the game yet but I did get the last of Cullen's romance scenes (I think). Just wondering, do we really still not get Cullen last name of have I completely missed it (which is entirely possible)?

Hi, I'm just poppin' in here with some questions about "Before the Dawn," a Cullen quest you can get if you:

side with the mages, I guess? There's a part where of this questline where I'm directed to the war table to find "find Maddox." I see no operation anywhere to do this nor do I have any temporary dungeons opened up on the world map. Where is it? Any ideas what went wrong? I have found a couple of topics about this on the BSN but no clarity. Perhaps it has to do with the next main quest I have to do - while I've completed one of the steps, (accessing the war table, which was unavoidable) I haven't spent power to start it.

 

I have nothing to do but this next quest (What Pride Had Wrought), which apparently locks you out of Before the Dawn. I would like to finish BtD, but if I can't, I would like to know what not finishing it leads to. Are there negative plot ramifications for not finishing this before What Pride Had Whatever, or does it just affect a boss fight a little? Am I just missing out on some more Cullen conversations? Because I wouldn't really care that much if that's it. (I mean, in an ideal world, I could see this stuff outside of youtube, but if not, I'll just move on...)

It should be a war table mission to find Maddox. Once you complete that, a new area should open up. And I highly, highly suggest you finish BtD before What Pride Hath Wrought, cause that can significantly affect a part of a boss battle, making it much easier. Also, once you finish the whle questline, some nice Cullen dialogue too.

 

It should be a War Table mission in Orlais. If you still can't find it, talk to Cullen again, maybe.

Really? I haven't even heard anything mildly suggestive in the ones I've seen (which surprised me because of GE's remarks). I mean, once Cullen makes up his mind to something, he doesn't hesitate, but he doesn't say anything, or very little, at that point.

 

Has anyone seen these versions online because now I want to know

One of the (few) good things of the last gen versions . It's Not supposed to have three banters in that time. I got a lot more without leaving the hinterlands, with every companions combo (except Dorian and Cole), while others in the same region couldn't trigger it.

 I just heard abt this. I didn't know some ppl couldn't trigger it all. And I certainly don't know how Artie's playing. That's why I asked.  But I get a snot answer, so that's when I don't care anymore.

 

Idk if this affecting my game, or not. I get a fair amount of banter. Nothing grand. I have not looked at other ppl's pt's to see how much banter they got compared to my game. I have no idea how much field banter was Supposed to be there in the first place.

 

Whatever. Hey, I hope they catch it and fix it. The replays will be glorious.

I figured out what was going on, I think. It was pretty stupid.

The mission showed up after I magically changed the time on my computer to free Cullen (in his advisory capacity) up from some six hour mission he was on. (I mean, I know he wasn't on the mission. you know what I mean, probably) I guess it doesn't appear until he's available? That's... dumb, especially late in the game where time-consuming missions are commonplace and you're mostly done with other companion missions. I was very ready to just skip the content this playthrough. Glad it's all cleared up!

 

Also, I now have zero qualms about just cheating to get through the war table missions immediately, if this kind of nonsense happens.

An interesting tidbit that I found REALLY intriguing is that the real world family name, Rutherford, actually has a clan with the following motto:

 

"Nec sorte, nec fato"

 

Which apparently translates to "Neither by chance, nor by destiny." I just think that it's really befitting of Cullen's character considering  he was thrust into a life of hardship and yet it was his own choice to join the Templars in the first place. His life has spiraled out of control at times and yet he's simultaneously remained profoundly in control of himself throughout it despite his insecurities about it in Inquisition; he's both a victim of the times and a pivotal catalyst for change. If his writer did consider this motto when she gave him his name I think she deserves a serious round of applause - it's brilliant. I was so inspired that I made a gifset. sigh

For me this is the reason, why I write fan fiction, becuase open world games tend to feel lacking a bit in content. As such we have to feel in the blanks sometimes, and for me I think her loosing her memories of things are a perfect reaction to the mark as such I had this happen in one of my fan fictions. In fact, after she kills Cory she looses all her memories of the time in Skyhold, as she romanced Cullen she forgets him to his sorrow and heartache he has to watch her be in the arm of another man. This would be perfect tragic ending to her journey..... But nope we got the nothing is happening to you due to your mark poly.

When I first started playing and the hand wound causes us to drop to the floor in agony, followed by Cassandra telling us it was spreading and killing us my first thoughts were "no way! This is awesome!!!" I was really looking forward to that being an issue for us throughout the game, and like you, I thought every time we closed a rift it would at least cause us a great deal of pain if nothing else.

 

That prayer scene was wonderful, and I thought for sure the final goodbye before we left for our final battle was going to be utterly heartbreaking (especially when I was still under the impression that we could actually die if not prepared), then the scene happens really suddenly where we have to leave immediately to stop Corypheus and Cullen doesn't say a word. I get that there were no final goodbyes but he was in the bloody scene with us! If you were romancing him or Josie you would have thought at least one extra piece of dialogue would have been thrown in recognising the romance, if nothing else. Then when you come down from the rubble after battle Cullen/Josie isn't there, and YOU have to go back to the Skyrim and walk up to them, and wait for them to bow before you even get a scene where Cullen hugs you.

 

So anticlimactic. No idea if it's the same deal with the companion romances.

LOL I had been out in the open world for so long without a single cutscene (damn you, Solas) that I was very urgently going through the storyline by then.
