Oh my god!

Greg Ellis: "While I wait for my copy of #DAI , how about I record a few personal lines for my #Cullenites and post them. I could sing a line or two."

When I played DA:O, the Alistair romance swept me away. I fell in love with him so much that it was ridiculous. I do feel that Cullen and Alistair have a bit of things in common. They are both shy, but they handle it so differently. Whereas Alistair is goofy and silly, Cullen just...retreats into this adorable stuttering shell of hotness.

Spoiler

Me too, though Alistair, his romance, and DA:O in general is something that'll always hold some personal emotional meaning for me because I found DA:O whilst I was in a very unhealthy poisonous relationship with my nutty ex... sounds ridiculous to speak of now, but it was Alistair that made me finally admit to myself that I was being treated terribly. You know things are bad when you'd rather spend time with a pixelated love interest who treats your protagonist better, than see your real life boyfriend who does nothing but insult you, belittle you and treat you like sh*t, LOL!

That being said, Cullen's romance and story arc/inclusion also holds some personal and emotional meaning to me too since I've been campaigning for him so hard for so long... following DAI's progress and shouting loudly for Cullen to be given a chance to shine gave me something to focus on throughout my depression. It didn't cure it, but it helped a lot.

*Sigh* I just wish DAI had lived up to the hype, I desperately wanted to love it as much as I loved DA:O and for a while there I thought the game had successfully managed to pull it off... lol, I'll stop. You guys already know my thoughts on the matter.

Wow, this is my situation exactly! When I "met" Alistair and discovered DA:O, I was also in a terrible relationship. I would spend so much time imagining that I could be somewhere else, especially with this fictional character. Then, I came to understand that I needed to change my situation and get away from it all. It was that game that gave me that courage.

So I know exactly how you feel!

I removed a lot of poisonous people from my life after finding DA:O, nothing like a group of fictional misfits coming together to help your protagonist save the world to make you realise you're surrounding yourself with sh*ts in real life!

It's kind of interesting how a game can help someone do that. I know it helped me turn my relationships around 180. It's one of the reasons I write fanfiction as well. I hope to inspire people and help them feel amazing things while they enter my world. Over the years that I've been writing, I've gotten a few people that told me my stories really moved them or helped them in some way. Things like that mean the world to me, and I really feel that even if I never publish anything like official books, I've already left a bit of a legacy behind.

I hope that the creators and the teams that work on games like this know how much they touch their fans and understand that we are so grateful to them for sharing their ideas and their hard work with us.

That must be lovely to hear! I do youtube videos, which is obviously a completely different thing to being a writer but I'd like to think that my videos cheer someone up when they're having a bad day, but I dunno.

Still, I think that also goes some way into explaining why people do get so upset when BioWare's games don't live up to expectation because we get so attached to the characters and story. We kick off because we care, lol.

This. I do believe though that Bioware do realise this, they know how passionate their fans are, but if you think about it logically it is impossible for them to appease everyone so they try to please as many as they can but by doing that they unfortunately end up creating more watered down experiences which is a great shame.

Excellent point about the different ways they deal with their shyness! I totally agree. My personal take on it is that Alistair, although shy, leans towards the extroverted side of the spectrum, whereas Cullen leans towards the introverted side. Not that Alistair is eager for attention all the time or anything - it's just that I remember how he said he hated the silence of the Chantry and how lonely he was without the dogs to keep him company while he slept. He's not confident in his ability to lead, but he was neglected as a child and never got much of that familial love that he likely craved, so I think he takes comfort in having peers around to joke with and talk to.

Cullen, on the other hand, is definitely not a party person. Although he grew up in a loving family in stark contrast to Alistair's origins, from the way he used to seek out relaxing spots away from his "loud" siblings I imagine he doesn't mind the solitude of being alone. But even though introverts need time away from others to recharge, all people need the comfort of human validation and love and introverts especially deeply treasure closeness with the few individuals they've come to trust. He strikes me as the type of person who is confident when it comes to moral decisions but not so much when it comes to personal decisions. He knows what needs to be done to inspire his soldiers to do their jobs but he's so bound by his sense of duty and honor and the image he has to convey that he thinks it's too good to be true that the Inquisitor is standing there telling him it's okay to not care about what others need to see in you sometimes. Also, even though he enjoyed Wicked Grace (at least, until...well...the end... ;) ) it's obvious it took Varric a long time to convince him to go to the social gathering, and I like to think that reluctance was as much due to his introversion as it was due to his workaholic tendencies.

I guess my headcanon would basically be that Cullen can have fun with others in a group but probably prefers the companionship of just curling up with the Quizzy in silence, lost sleepily in his own happy thoughts about the future to come. Precious baby.

Meanwhile, Alistair is more likely to surprise you suddenly if the room is too quiet, like how he apparently started screaming in the Chantry just to fight the silence.

I loved how Alistair said that (about the screaming to get rid of the silence). It was too adorable.

And yes, I agree that it would have taken Varric ages to convince Cullen to play. xD Poor man really needs to learn how to relax every once in a while. ^__^ I love dissecting character personalities. I hope that I do justice to both Cullen and the gang in my most recent story.

So I was trying to romance Cullen but he didn't seem interested and it was taking a while to get things going. So I Romanced Blackwall because he was easy lol. But now I have come to a point with Cullen where he says "I heard you were seeing someone else" I wish to tell him he is mistaken but there are no dialog options it only takes me back to be able to ask the same question where he answers the same way again. If I kick Blackwall out of the inquisition can I have Cullen? Or can I keep Blackwall and continue to romance Cullen?

You have to end things with Blackwall by choosing the broken heart in the dialogue.

lol... It's okay :P I know that feel, bro. The game was a disappointment for me before I even began it. I'm midway through and liking it a bit more, but still, I know it'll never be what I hoped it would be. And you guys know I've been moaning and complaining about THAT since early this summer. IMO it's okay to be sad and disappointed, and if you can't share that here (our little safe space) then what good is this thread? It's for squee-ing and posting yummy Cullen pics but it's for sharing how you feel about the game and DA in general as well... cause where else can we do that and actually have sympathetic friends listen to us.

That said... I just began my romance with Bull :) It's pretty nice so far. No, he is not my perfect boyfriend lol but it's nice to have a romance I like in the game. I got to play Auren being very cute with him. p.s. There was a lot of nonsense going around about Bull's romance being a joke; it's not. That's all I'll say about that!

Ah, I thought his shyness was hilarious and it was kinda heartwarming how he said he wasn't married yet but was taken or something like that, but i couldn't help but feel a little bad for the poor thing. he's so uncomfortable! Cole says he's feeling hunted! whenever i passed through him i had to ask him something just to imagine the inquisitor prying him from his followers as they took a walk around the room as they talked. or something like that. not that i mentally write fic while i'm playing, or anything.

Yeah! I actually played, for an hour and a half. My daughter let me play with the CC tonight while she studied and I made it through the prologue. The first thing I'm going to do when I get it set up on my computer is remap the controls; they were driving me crazy! Temporary character, but elf warrior for practice since Derzka will be first. I was actually rather pleased though she wasn't exactly what I was trying for; the eye makeup was too strong for one. She was attractive, though not exactly pretty, and mature, and just feminine enough to avoid androgyny. Too bad I can't transfer the settings so I can just fix the two or three things I didn't like. :D
