Haha well, I'm finding the SP to be a bit of a chore to slog through so I can only play a few hours a day. Plus with it being the holiday season it's harder to find time to oneself >.>
I might breakdown and start up MP before finishing SP, so we'll see
Although can anyone who's played both MP and SP say whether there is anything spoilery in MP??
So... I'm entering the endgame. Did I miss a Cullen scene? Help please...
Yeah, now that you mention it I realize I agree. I think there actually was one chance to express your dislike of Circles to Cullen around when you first meet him and get to talk to him - at one point, you can ask him something akin to "So do you think I should still be locked up?" and he'll get flustered and apologize for bringing it up given both your histories. It's pretty obvious that his views on mages are much more moderate than they were in DAII, and we know from his dialogue that he thinks mages in Circles should be granted more freedoms. But it would definitely have been nice to really give him some gentle insight into what life as a mage in a Circle was like.
Cullen has viewed mages from the other side for a long time, and apart from his desire to reach out to your female mage Warden he's likely never had a chance to really communicate with a mage since then because he was still reeling from his experiences in Ferelden in DAII. He even says at the beginning of Inquisition that Templars and mages don't often talk and aren't really encouraged to but that it is essential that they do in order to foster a sense of understanding. He's finally healed back to that more compassionate mindset he'd had in the beginning of Origins now, and he's all the stronger for it. Uldred didn't win. yay!
I guess I'll just headcanon that he's now very receptive to listening you speak about what your daily life as a mage in a Circle was like during private moments together outside of the ones the writers had to present to us to flesh out his character.
I think he'd totally understand if you said you disliked Circles anyhow. While some mages might have taken advantage of that whole "poor chained apprentice" image, your mage warden was presented as a confident, capable prodigy and that was why Irving introduced you to Duncan as soon as he showed up. Even though life as a Warden is hard, Irving wanted to give you that chance to be free because he saw in you the promise of greater things. That's probably the same beauty that mesmerized Cullen, and the reason why he can still think fondly about your Warden in DAII despite his harsher views on mages during that time. You were the caged bird who returned home and freed them all. There's a magnificent sense of poetic justice in that, and now that Cullen's head is clear he absolutely knows it.
i was trying not to make surana-lavellan comparisons in my fanfics and now you just forced me to!

Spoiler
it's after What Pride had wrought. just talk to him in his room.

Nah, it's just dungeon raiding against enemies you've already encountered in game. Nothing to do with the SP.

Hah, mischief managed I guess ![]()
I know that there are those who prefer to think of the Warden and the Inquisitor separately because they are canonically two different people (and because they don't like the idea of Cullen still crushing on the Warden after such a long time because it's creepy) but given how we are the same one person guiding them through their lives I rather prefer thinking of my protagonists as different incarnations of the same soul. I actually feel closer to my Warden than I do my Inquisitor, to be honest, and part of the charm in having Cullen crush on a silent protagonist was that you could fill in the blanks yourself about why Cullen saw something special in your Warden and about the tone of voice you'd personally use in certain situations. I understand the narrative need to include more of a background personality for the Quizzy but it's harder to relate to her this way.
Then again, I've always been partial to silent protagonist characters - there's nothing wrong with wanting to headcanon a different narrative outcome for Cullen as well based on an entirely different character to your Warden if that's what makes you most comfortable. My Warden died killing the Archdemon and my headcanon is that somehow the hitherto not fully understood forces of the Fade re-assembled her spirit into being to save the world once again, sort of like how Tidus was brought back from the Farplane despite having the pieces of his spirit scattered to the winds at the end of Final Fantasy X. Or how Sephiroth managed to retain his sense of individuality despite having been thrown into the Lifestream (basically the Fade of the FFVII world, lol. There are a lot of parallels between Mako poisoning/materia and lyrium poisoning/lyrium, too). I see the Fade as an extensive collection of the souls/spirits of people who have lived in Thedas, and so it's easy for me to believe that in the world of Dragon Age, there is such a thing as being destined for a soulmate. I've had to re-imagine most of the events that occurred in Inquisition to fit my own vision but I'm perfectly happy with my own private fanfiction version of events ![]()
But anyways, best of luck with your fanfic!
Regarding the Warden and the inquisitor being the same person... seems pretty ripe for fanfic. Imagine that the inquisitor has a near death experience near the time the Warden commits the US... their souls meet in the Fade/Beyond and mingle... the inquisitor wakes up, part of her now with the Warden inside of her. Ten years later, she meets Cullen....
You're welcome ![]()
