Fan fiction :evil:Regarding the Warden and the inquisitor being the same person... seems pretty ripe for fanfic. Imagine that the inquisitor has a near death experience near the time the Warden commits the US... their souls meet in the Fade/Beyond and mingle... the inquisitor wakes up, part of her now with the Warden inside of her. Ten years later, she meets Cullen....
You're welcome
Are you done with the main questline?
Nope. Next one on the list is Wicked Eyes and Wicked Heart. I've just been exploring, closing Fade Rifts, just killed my sixth dragon. My Inquisitor is level 21.
I wanna stop to take a moment to point out that we got really effin' lucky that Cullen's story arc across 3 games turned out the way it did.
... It could have easily been him in Samson's role in DAI, he could've ended up as a villian in the red templars. Tbh, if it wasn't for his surprising popularity in DA:O I'm pretty sure his fate would've been sealed, especially considering they happily used someone as obscure as that Templar Carroll, Cullen would've been the prime option if things had taken a different path.
Now I feel like loading the game up just to shower him with affection for how close we came to losing him (several times!) Lol.
I really can't like this comment enough. ![]()

Yeah... still on my merry romp through Thedas with Bull. And ... guys, he's very sweet. I have zero complaints. He is a darling. If you want a romance with a huge guy who literally offers to take care of you... go for it.
Hah, mischief managed I guess
I know that there are those who prefer to think of the Warden and the Inquisitor separately because they are canonically two different people (and because they don't like the idea of Cullen still crushing on the Warden after such a long time because it's creepy) but given how we are the same one person guiding them through their lives I rather prefer thinking of my protagonists as different incarnations of the same soul. I actually feel closer to my Warden than I do my Inquisitor, to be honest, and part of the charm in having Cullen crush on a silent protagonist was that you could fill in the blanks yourself about why Cullen saw something special in your Warden and about the tone of voice you'd personally use in certain situations. I understand the narrative need to include more of a background personality for the Quizzy but it's harder to relate to her this way.
Then again, I've always been partial to silent protagonist characters - there's nothing wrong with wanting to headcanon a different narrative outcome for Cullen as well based on an entirely different character to your Warden if that's what makes you most comfortable. My Warden died killing the Archdemon and my headcanon is that somehow the hitherto not fully understood forces of the Fade re-assembled her spirit into being to save the world once again, sort of like how Tidus was brought back from the Farplane despite having the pieces of his spirit scattered to the winds at the end of Final Fantasy X. Or how Sephiroth managed to retain his sense of individuality despite having been thrown into the Lifestream (basically the Fade of the FFVII world, lol. I see a lot of parallels between Mako poisoning/materia and lyrium poisoning/lyrium, too). I see the Fade as an extensive collection of the souls/spirits of people who have lived in Thedas, and so it's easy for me to believe that in the world of Dragon Age, there is such a thing as being destined for a soulmate. I've had to re-imagine most of the events that occurred in Inquisition to fit my own vision but I'm perfectly happy with my own private fanfiction version of events
But anyways, best of luck with your fanfic!
I'm one of those that think of them separately (because headcanon is that my 5-feet-two-inches-of-pure-gourmet-quality-ham Surana is happily ward... i mean, scandalizing the court in Denerim with Alistair), but she and lavellan share some characteristics, and since she's such a prominent figure in Ferelden and he's working with Leliana, who was there during Broken Circle, and they didn't part in the best of terms (which he canonically regrets), it's not so much as he still has a crush on her, but is constantly being reminded of it and how crap it was all around for everyone involved. Like... well, of COURSE the herald would be a female elf mage, just his effin luck. and then he starts to like her and WELL, GUESS WHO APPARENTLY HAS A TYPE!!! this nerd riight here. (everyone finds it hilarious varric finds it hilarious leliana writes to Surana and she busts a gut laughing of endearment)
but at least in the beginning, even if he is over his crush on the warden, the comparison seems inevitable (i'm guessing other characters who know the HoF make it too, like Leliana or Morrigan, and Varric compares her to hawke (blue-purple) as well). My Inquisitor at least is more deadpan and snark and diplomacy, while Surana takes very large steps and still has bits of the furniture of the landsmeet room stuck on her teeth from the time she was calling loghain out on his crap. But both have good hearts and deep-set loyalties, so it's not so much as a narrative shift with Cullen but narrative parallels.
Shh no end game spoilers.

YES. YES. YES. I rode the Bull myself this afternoon and was very, very appreciative of his...talents. ![]()
This just showed up on my Tumblr dashboard and I'm just really happy to have it as a reference I can use to expand my thoughts about Cullen's personality type:
I'd personally categorize Cullen between a INTJ (Introvert-Intuitive-Thinker-Judger) or ISTJ (Introvert-Sensor-Thinker-Judger). I'm also referencing TVTropes.org and it's interesting that Cullen seems to fit both descriptions at times. I wouldn't know how accurate TVTropes' descriptions are, though.
ISTJ: "ISTJs are quiet and reserved individuals who value loyalty and dependability above all else. They would rather work with facts than speculation, and they will put a great deal of energy into reaching a goal - as long as it makes sense to them. They prefer to work alone, but can be good team players when the situation calls for it."
INTJ: "INTJs are clever, analytical, pragmatic and logical, and are not scared to tell someone (or themselves) when they're being stupid. They emphasize efficiency, making them simultaneously loners and excellent leaders. Their natural talent for planning and system-building often makes them the perfect villains."
INTJ sounds a lot like Cullen when he's telling off his soldiers for not properly using their shields or when he's sassing Roderick, but ISTJ sounds more like him when he's working as an advisor with you and when he's gushing enthusiastically about the Inquisition's potential. That villain bit in the INTJ description, though... LOL. Anyone else have any opinions? I'm very curious.
I could so imagine my Amell or Surana bursting out laughing, after they read a letter from Leliana about how Cullen is falling in love with the mage quizzy, and I think Varric veiws it's more or least as funny becuase he heard that awful line about mages not being people and shouldn't be treated as people. So I think he thinks it's humors that Cullen fell hard for a Mage and is actually treating her as a person instead of a weapon.
Considering my Amell is alive and well and still in a romance with Leliana (who just happened to be with Amell when they rescued Cullen and heard what he said to Amell), I'm fairly certain that letter happens, as well as the laughter (me, I imagine Lel wandering into Cullen's office to tease him obliquely). My Surana is King Alistair's mistress, and it seems a little vaguer what's going on in that case since Anora agreed to the arrangement.
Some good pictures I took from near the end of Here Lies the Abyss.
So another example of how the game will not let you proclaim your elfyness...
I just had a conversation with a character (will not say who) where I asked him/her if s/he believed I was the Herald of Andraste. S/he responded by saying, basically, that considering all the crazy stuff that's happened, how could I *NOT* be touched by Andraste or the Maker? I had two options, for the most part: "You're right" and "I still don't believe."
An "I believe I am being helped by my own gods" option would've been nice ![]()

I'd classify him as an ISTJ, personally (though he's probably fairly balanced in T and F). There's also a True Colors personality test, which I'd use to classify him as a Gold/Blue. I'm an INTJ myself (Green/Orange), but I don't see much of myself in Cullen. Cullen is too grounded and pragmatic to be an intuitive type. Not that that's a bad thing.
Very fitting description of ISTJ personality type; fits Cullen pretty well, I think.

my headcanon is that varric asks her if she's really absolutely positively sure cullen knows she's a mage, because he didn't notice hawke, merril and anders doing magic right in front of him in kirkwall, so, you know. you have to be really clear with him.

Nice find! It's nice to see characters with curly hair (petty, I know lol).
Just finished the story (I procrastinated, and did absolutely everything I could before the final battle. Oh my goodness. That was a great ride.
Cullen's story is absolutely amazing--they really fleshed out his character perfectly, and I'm so happy for it. He deserved it ![]()
Popping in to say that today I was cleaning out some of my saves (damned save limit) and realized that more than half of them are in the general vicinity of, er, outside Cullen's door. Just in case something cool happened that I'd want to see again later.
My Inquisitor (it's not me, obviously *cough*) definitely has a strapping young Templar problem.
I'm close to the endgame and starting to think past my current DW rogue. How good is the extra mage/mage decisions content? I went templars this time (yay Ser Barris! Who I was really concerned I had somehow inadvertently allowed to be wounded badly enough to die because I hate timed missions! But he's alive! Hooray for dumb luck!), and I'm curious to see how things play out the other way. Not...that it'll affect my decision any. The growly face has ruined me. RUINED. That scene has to be my favorite.

That link is excellent. Cullen definitely sounds like an ISTJ according to that page.
This one especially got me:
"ISTJs have tremendous respect for facts. They hold a tremendous store of facts within themselves, which they have gathered through their Sensing preference. They may have difficulty understanding a theory or idea which is different from their own perspective. However, if they are shown the importance or relevance of the idea to someone who they respect or care about, the idea becomes a fact, which the ISTJ will internalize and support. Once the ISTJ supports a cause or idea, he or she will stop at no lengths to ensure that they are doing their duty of giving support where support is needed. "
Yet another reason it would have been nice to openly speak about being a mage to Cullen as a mage quizzy. I wonder how much Amell/Surana's situation might have influenced his viewpoints on mages these days as well. Anyways, thanks for the input!

LOL I actually deliberately went outside Cullen's door to save before every scene because it would help me remember that something important happened right then in that save. I know I have a problem.

Are there any videos of Cullen dialogue when pursuing the templar spec?
De-lurking for my first post since I can answer this one! I don't have a video but I can say that the dialog is completely different from non-romanced to romanced Cullen.
I will take a look through my saves to see if I have one where I can get more accurate dialog.

I made that same mistake as well, lol. Then I figured that mission out. XD I was like derp, sorry dudes. I'm a horrible Herald of your Andraste.
