I haven't played the pro-mage plot yet.  I believe you get another Cullen quest there and this may flesh everything out more dramatically.  In my game our interaction was pretty much limited to flirting, supporting him through his withdrawal and smooching a lot.  I don't think it's bad.  I completely enjoyed his romance and found it soothing amid the drama of the main game but I think if you didn't know anything about his past from prior games, there's not much drama to sink your teeth into.  It's a simple little love story, which is not a bad thing in itself.

 

I thought it was really sweet how the extra pro-mage quest turned out and I'd advise anyone who hasn't gone pro-mage to try it at least once just to see the new (super sweet!) interactions with Cullen. At one point he will actually

join you on a mission as a non-playable ally and beat stuff up with you. Really aggressively. As in he will charge after stuff before you realize it's even there. It was great. I felt so protected.

 

And he says some really sweet stuff about wanting to make sure you're okay when you ask if he'll be okay coming along, too. He doesn't have a health bar and can't die, but that didn't stop me from compulsively casting Barrier on his sweet hiney the entire time just to make sure. Nobody hurts my precious lion cub. Nobody.

I picked all the top "diplomatic" choice cause I thought that's what I was supposed to pick ^^;; but nooooo 

Yeah, if you want approvals, the only choice is the sly approach aka the middle choice. With exception of course. Remember that the dance isn't just a dance, it's The Game. And by definition of DA, The Game is all about subtlety and not showing one's cards. If you stick with the middle choice for the most part, you'll only gain court's approval.

Personally, I think you need to roll a female elf protagonist and do the Solas romance.  Choke down on being the wrong gender and his absent hairstyle and prepare to curse the name of Weekes.  

 

I would hate it so much though I bet I wouldn't get 15 minutes into the game before starting over a rolling something else lol

 

I'm patiently waiting for the m/m Solas mod And by patient I mean I plan to celebrate a few birthdays until it happens lol And even then it'll probably suck b/c I'll have to be silent during the whole thing. Bah.

See this is where PC gender inflexibility gets you Artemis - you are missing out on feeling completely miserable, a little bit outraged and yet still overwhelmed with how great a story it makes.  Mind you, I did mention that thing I have for despondent protagonists (their suffering is my joy - I should put that on greeting card sometime) so I may not be the right person for hopeless romantics (you and your Fenris headcanons!) to listen to.

Yeah, I love Fenris too but Artemis and I have had some epic discussions about the for all-time-never-ever-to-be-mentioned-again Isabella and Fenris *situtation* (and actually Fenris's relationship with Hawke just generally) which places her to my mind most definitely and affectionately in the 'hopeless romantic' club and probably puts me in her 'your soul is as black and withered as your heart' subset of forum friends.  

 

I have no problem with Fenris or headcanons of any variety.

lol! I can't help what I feel I don't play RPGs to feel uncomfortable and have a lousy experience. (Day-to-day living is handling that bit quite nicely.)

Bah, Storm Coast dragon just kicked my ass. Grumble. Guess I need a few more levels distance. I just can't do this tactics thing you guys are talking about. I tried once to change Varric's behavior to stay back and stop running in to the  melee... no joy.

I'm so sour about Hawke x Fenris at present. It was handled so poorly in this game.

I tried tactical mode the first and last time a few weeks ago Plus they don't even listen to you if you tell them to hold position. It's annoying.

R2 - The tactics don't work.  Give up now, it's pointless.  Varric is going to run into the melee no matter what you do unless you take manual control of him forever and then your character will run straight into the melee instead (which is a problem if you are a mage or archer yourself.)

 

Just spam the abilities.

Yep. There's no approval points with your advisers so you can say whatever you want (just keep flirting with Cullen if you want to pursue the romance)

Yes a couple times I switched to another character for like a couple seconds. Switch back to my inquisitor and the moron has used up everyone of his abilities Like really, bro?
