For me it was the Hinterlands, on the rock formation near that Keep in the bottom left corner. I walked up and down that entire f*cking mountain range... Only to finally find a simple path.

It's the Western Approach for me.

I hate the Western approach so much.

A lot of times in dialogue my race and culture were blatantly ignored; I posted a recent example here wherein my Dalish hunter inquisitor said the words "I'm not a hunter! Why are you asking me?" Like, really? You can't tell me that line wasn't originally written with the human Trevelyan in mind lol!

I had one, perhaps two, opportunities in the entire game to mention (never discuss) my own religion (belief in the Creators).

Also when playing as an elf in Thedas you expect to be called knife-ear, be mistaken for a servant, or experience some kind of racism in general. I was only mistaken for a servant once, at the very beginning, by the quartermaster.

It's a real shame and a missed opportunity; I appreciate GREATLY the cosmetic reasons for playing an elf (it is very important to me) but there are virtually no story reasons.

Romance Solas and you will get a lot of elf identity convos

And "Elven Glory" ;)

Ha, funny, I was just thinking that after I finish the game I might go back to Skyrim  I was having so much fun with it; was just beginning to build my house and also was in the middle of the thieves' guild quest, after which I intend to make Brynjolf mine

That's why I think DAI needs a few years before it is really playable for me; need to wait for the modders like Adela and Renmiri (sp? hehe sorry) to work their magic. At present, DAI is too "game-y"; I think the reason I played DA2 so much is because I could rocket through it, from cut scene to cut scene, and of course I loved the romances so much and just felt so connected to the characters. I feel like I barely know the people in DAI, and when I think of having to grind for another 2-3 hours in some desert or forest I just sigh and try to think if I'd rather watch something on TV or perhaps read a book lol

You know I played a "virgin" Skyrim at launch day and it was much worse than DAI. They have virtually no companion conversation and at first before many mods a companion was just your packmule. I used to joke with my friends online "So who is your mule ? Mine is Lydia". Skyrim also has a lot less story. only one main central quest.. And even the depth of the world felt weird for me, I like the mythology of DAI a lot more than the cannibalism and evilness of Boetia and other Skyrim Gods.

I myself modded Skyrim to make it more playable. Made a rocket launcher (from ME3) to do one shot kill while questing so players didn't need to grind :P Nowadays is miles above what it was.

DAI in my opinion is 9/10. loving it. For sure mods will help but the game and the mythology are just wonderful so far. If I can add my one shot kill and a herb garden with infinite herbs I'll play it a lot more than I played Skyrim

This :P I continue to be disappointed that they went in that direction. At the least there should've been more bi characters.

But "marriage" in Skyrim, without mods is crap. Is just a daily delivery of gold and buff food.

BTW I made a marriable Thane companion mod for Skyrim :P

PS: This is where I think people are being too demanding with DAI and were very accepting of Skyrim. There is absolutley no content for companions and spouses in Skyrim, you can't really compare the two on that! Yet people say "Skyrim is better" but they don't realize they lowered their expectations for Skyrim and want the moon from DAI.

I used marriage as a convenient way to sacrifice my husband to Boethiah!

That was cruely amusing lol.

For those of you who think the Shards are bad ... did any of you spend time trying to do Holocrons in TOR? THOSE were insanely evil! My husband and I blew whole afternoons trying to figure out some of those things. Shards can be annoying, but they are on the whole much easier to get to than almost all of the Holocrons were. :P

As for the game ... I'd say on the list of BioWare games I've played I'd put it somewhere between DA:O and ME3, above ME3 at the moment and below DA:O. ME1 is still my hands down favorite although it has its issues with DA:O running second mainly due to genre more than anything (I just liked the space opera feel of ME1 where so many games are fantasy like DA:O). Then there is DA:I in there with ME3 (if we chop off the atrocious ending) followed by ME2 with DA2 lagging in the rear. If ME2 had been the opening game in the trilogy, I'd have rated it much higher. If DA2 had the time it needed to polish its writing and develop, it had the potential to also be something much greater.

I also played vanilla Skyrim when it first came out and while I agree that, unfortunately, companions lose their personality after you complete their main faction quests (resigning my precious Farkas to household chores and cooking duty for the rest of his days) I felt that the side quests in Skyrim were more fulfilling than in those in DAI right now. While Skyrim did have its main questline, it also had several other in-depth faction questlines to explore after it, each with new characters to meet (Cicero, yooo). I also could spend hours traveling for the sake of exploring and not just because I had to advance the story.

I adore DA's lore, and I'm much more attached to DA's mythology than Skyrim's. But outside of the few personal quests and the main quest line I feel like I'm left with less to interact with in DAI. I love doing quests for my beloved companions and precious lion cub, but outside of that the only reason to explore the world is to grind materials and power. DAI is definitely far more expansive than the previous DA games and I love being able to travel on foot through the gorgeous backdrops, but the interactions with the world feel forced. Find these pre-determined landmarks you knew existed, search for these shards you marked on the map, etc.

So basically, while I love the character interactions in DAI I feel like the gameplay is lacking. Especially so since the character interactions apparently end completely after the conclusion of the main story and we're just left to explore. The novelty associated with entering a new area only lasts so long, and the thing I love the most about Dragon Age is its characters and lore, so I feel like I'm not really left with anything past the main story outside of pursuing harder bosses to kill.

*snip*

I haven't played TOR for comparison, but I have done all the insane side quests to get the ultimate weapons in FFX.*  Anytime I start grumbling about running after the shards that are stuck in odd places, I remind myself that it is infinitely less frustrating than dodging lighting bolts 100 TIMES IN A ROW.

* Except Tidus' - I can never race my damn Chocobo fast enough.  :(

I totally didn't use mods to make Ulfric my war-husband and Brynjolf my bed-husband, beside my tear-husband Vilkas, or anything...

Hey, Shor had three wives, and he was an aspect of Lorkhan (who also had three wives), as is the Dragonborn. You totally have the divine right to have three husbands too.

Sorry, ladies and gents. Mello just drew a Dorian and I think it's her best work that she's drawn so far! Such an amazing job.

Yes, I do love Dorian. It's too bad they didn't make him bi ... ah, regrets. I just can't get into the s/s angle, but at least I can flirt with him. That's so much fun.

Oh, well, I guess I need to go back to Emprise du Lion. If I try, I might actually be close to putting the lid on my first play through by the time the day ends. Then I have to decide who to play next:

Andellan, my two-hand warrior, for Cassandra who might be as close to "me" in personality as any character I've seen in a game, or Sullastine (she has Tevinter blood and those who know Roman history may recognize how the name was inspired), my mage, just to give Cullen another go 'round, or Isleen, my elf, to see what it's like to romance Solas and drink from the Well ... although other characters my or may not do it as the time comes.
