What is the policy in the Free Marches? Is it more liberal than other areas when it comes down to mages, titles and the Circle?

Or maybe I should ask, could it be more liberal?

OH GOD NO!

The Marcher Circles are notoriously conservative.

Hawke was a very, very special case. And by the time the Chantry came along to Kirkwall, Hawke was long gone. Otherwise, they'd have kicked his butt off the throne, no questions asked.

I think Hawke is an exception. It wasn't widely known that they were a mage until after they had gained their title and saved the entire city from a qunari invasion. I think by then there was nothing Meredith could do to stop Hawke climbing the social ladder. I think mages holding onto their title goes against the whole "mages should serve men, not rule over them," thing as to why they are made to give all rights up once they come into their powers and go to a circle.

Right, Hawke was an extremely special case, one that pretty much *expletive* all over the Chantry's rules. And as an apostate on top of that! Not a chance in hell would the Chantry or Templars let that slide under normal circumstances.

Yeah that's true. Maybe not officially claim then but just re-asserting herself back into the family.

In any case, I think Boom and mine's point is more that it's disappointing that mage Inquisitor gets a hundred little unique conversations throughout the romance, and the one conversation that seemed specifically tailored for a non-mage noble Trevelyan... the mage Trevelyan can also get. So there's nothing unique to the noble romance, nothing to make it special or give it a different angle to a non-mage player. Mage Trevelyans get everything, non-mage Trevelyans don't get even a single unique line of their own. If we can't have even that much, at least let us have our disappointment and vain hopes that this was a bug, and not an intentional dismissal. ;)

For my Trayvlen, her family disowned her once she came into her powers anyway so no power to take hold of even though her family tried too use her name for their own benefits, which Leilana and Cullen put down very quickly in my game. Yeah, I have tons of backstory for my characters ready to be put to good use. The first one got scared a bit by Leilana and the other got put down for good by Cullen. :evils: My girls family will be her friends and lover from now on since her so called family had abandoned her to live in the circle.

Oh I think it was just a bug/oversight, that was just me trying to rationalise why my mage would say that. I haven't played a non mage yet and didn't notice there were no specific lines for that, which I agree sucks.

Your qunari is hawt! Ahmm, yes. Even the warden didn't get that kind leeway in DAO if they were a mage in a relationship with Alistair and he was to become king and they stopped a freaking blight. And look what happens to your Hawke if they do become Viscount, it doesn't last for long.

Everyone has a personal preference and mine is to not romance Cullen with a mage. As well as having less romance content I think it just makes me feel like Cullen is better suited to a mage and I am somehow holding him back from a more complete romance. Wahhhhh, I am a werido! I felt the same way when I saw how easy Isabela and Fernis established a relationship in DA2 while my Hawke was pulling her hair out trying to figure the guy out.

Considering magic has gone to hell and everything to do with magic is tearing the world apart, being a mage would have a big impact on things.

I noticed quite a few instances where being a mage opens up specific dialogues..also being an elf is noticed a lot too.

Yeah Alaistar breaks up with you if you romanced him as mage and did not harden him. Which was like a big what the heck moment with me and made my proud mage take the Sacrifice just to see the regret in Alastair face.

I wouldn't say he is better suited to a mage, it's just he has that history being a templar, it gives it a bit of a twist. I haven't romanced him with a non mage so I can't really say though, I expect though it's not that much different besides a couple of dialogue options, which I only use once so I don't dwell on it for his sake. :)

Nah, most of the lines have more to do with "are you sure you're OK with being in a romance with a mage?" than being in a more complete relationship. I think it was their way of getting his change in attitudes out there.

Nah, in general. Mages get a lot of cool dialogue options, ones that I haven't necessarily seen pop up for those not playing mages.

I'm confused by this. A lot of people are saying there are relatively few notices of this (not to mention a couple of instances when the dialogue literally makes no sense as a Dalish), but others are saying that it's noticed a lot. Is there maybe that much difference due to dialogue choices? Or that the content isn't necessarily when people expect it?

Lol, maybe I should actually finish the romance!  I still haven't gotten past the initial bedding. I am on the grind at the mo.

It's more of you bringing it to notice actually. There are dialogue choice that you can, 'but I am an elf' kind of thing. But I have come across a few npcs that will bring it up. Josephine does, the quartermaster at Haven, the horse master and when you go to Val Royeaux the mother mentions it.
