Considering that ten years later he still believes his crush on Surana/Amell was a misguided juvenile infatuation and highly inappropriate given their stations as charge and protector, that the desire demon that tortured him during the Ferelden Circle rebellion probably used sexual fantasies and imagery of Surana/Amell to tempt him into possession and that's something that still haunts him even now, and that abuse of power and corrective rape inside the Circle were real issues he had to deal with while Knight-Captain in Kirwall... not really. I don't imagine he considers these power play scenarios very appealing, even/specially with a mage Inquisitor.
I definitely agree that the power play scenario would not be something Cullen would find appealing in the slightest, especially if you
Although I don't think the demons actually managed to dig deep enough to reach his feelings about Amell/Surana before you rescue him. I know he says "This trick again?" when you first find him, but I think that referred to the fact that they must have used illusions of other people in his life because soon after that he says "Ugh, how far they must have delved into my thoughts..." - which suggests to me that he'd managed to keep feelings about her hidden away deep inside and thought they'd just found them for the first time. It was terrible watching him go through that, and terrible to hear the things he said to my mage afterwards, but I actually took solace in the fact that desire demons hadn't managed to use my image against him after I heard him mutter his dark surprise the way he did.
I think you may be overlooking the fact that you're fairly cheerfully saying someone who's gay should be willing to have heterosexual sex because it's a duty. And it was not that uncommon, historically, to find people who either refused to marry or married but the marriage went unconsummated. There's nothing to suggest that they're using Roman marriage customs in Tevinter (which weren't uniform or fixed over time either). Frankly I also haven't seen anything in the game that suggests that either chantry allows marriage before a reasonable age of consent. I think they wrote the story they wanted to explore, and while they may draw on real world cultures to an extent, they are using them within a completely different world with different religions and some very different mindsets about some things (not to mention magic). I also frankly think the story they wrote is one that many people will really connect to and love.
Agreed. I think a part of what makes Dorian so adorable and lovable is his fiery will and sensibility - he's wild and free and feisty, and I don't think he'd have been okay with even playing pretend at a marriage. Throwing some angry slighted wife into the mix would take the focus away from Dorian and the decisions he's already made and would feel like a needless literary addendum. We have to remember that one of the reasons he's with us in the Inquisition is that he opposes what Tevinter stands for today and not just because of his sexual orientation. The cutthroat, backstabbing, manipulative mage power grabbing is a huge part of that decision to leave, more so because of how his
Honestly, asking for his character to be changed so much is basically asking for an entirely new character all together. I don't think he'd be the same. I like him the way he is, all fire and cheekiness and righteous rebellion.
