Oh my god! So I took the option to just flat out end the relationship with him

no "we should just be friends" speech. It was more "there is no future for us so I am ending it" and the poor guy was so confused. Then when the cut scene ended I was outside his tower and I turned around to go back in and the door was locked! Doing that to him actually felt really horrible.

This is exactly my thinking. I've always imagined that Cullen would have a hard time being in a real relationship for the first time, since he's spent his whole life thinking about the greater good, to the detriment of his own desires. Now, suddenly, there's someone in his life that makes him question that. Thinking about one person who's so dear to him that he wonders if he'd be able to risk losing them for the greater good. I always wanted to see that moment in his development. ... and I think we just might have!

There is a lot of hesitation in that scene, from both Cullen and the Inquisitor. I like it. It is kind of a "is this even an appropriate time in our lives to be putting these feelings out there" kind of vibe. When she tells him that she is thankfully that he made it out alive then corrects herself to include others and he reply's back with "as am I," he seems to think about it a bit more. Looks to the side as she begins to walk away and I think that is when he comes to his decision that he won't hold it back and even though it is subtle he tells her that he won't be letting that happen again and that her safety, her life, is important to him.

 

I am starting to feel all gushy over Cullen now, lol. Did anyone else notice that the three scouts that Cullen is talking to in the first scene in Skyhold are identical? Also, I love how often i hear him laugh when he is talking to my Inquisitor. It is a glorious sound!

So I finally saw the consequences of telling Cullen to keep taking lyrium until the war is over:

During what I assume is his last cutscene (after the Temple of Mythal and before fighting Corypheus) when he's praying in front of the statue of Andraste, he recites the line "blessed are they who stand before the corrupt and the wicked and do not falter" and says he feels like he's faltered by not keeping his promise to himself about quitting lyrium.

I tried the option where the Inquisitor says "Cullen... what if I don't make it?" and his reaction was heartbreaking.

The "what if I don't make it" line is the one I always use, adds a little drama to the moment LOL! I do like some of his other replies based on what you say in that scene though, there's some amusing ones.

I have to say I like the fact he respects you enough to let you take risks when necessary, even if it tears him up. That's the basis for a good partnership, in my mind. Just like respecting his wishes on lyrium.

LOL I think the simple answer is gameplay. They don't want an Anders redux. I don't think the characters will instigate much ever again because of that.

 

Yeah, that's what I think as well. I'm surprised we even got a non-straight LI mentioning their orientation clearly in a non-romance quest and not in answer to a flirt. But even though they got less shy about it than I expected, I still think they'll refrain from engaging the PC with romance content they didn't initiate.

But what is wrong with being bathed in blood if it means you will be safe?  Yeah, I never could romance Anders after hearing that line. Fenris' mage hate was much more preferable.

LOL! So if I have done those first two things as well..............................? It was all for the sake of science. I would never keep those choices in my games! At least being called a monster is better than being called an abomination. 

'Actually, I could never bring myself to do those first two things. Come to think of it, I don't even think I have seen a YouTube video of giving Fenris to Danarius. I don't know if I could bring myself to watch it.

In one of them he tells her to come back alive or something, and her reply is something like "is that your professional opinion" and he's like "no, but as your advisor I highly suggest it" in an amusing tone as they hug.

Hahaha, so now we have a name. And "damn it, Jim!" sounds really good, too. I love how he backs away, like he is too afraid to turn his back on his commander after that.

Well, it only took me about 123 hours to thoroughly ruin Thedas. Time to try again, and maybe this time I can avoid roughing the world up too badly ...

There is a choice in the Keep for "Morrigan did not have a baby." I think it's based on the assumption that a male Warden in a romance with Morrigan would have gotten her pregnant, whether the DR was done or not. So, if your Warden was female or male and didn't romance Morrigan and did not do the DR, then no baby.

You are a brave, brave, brave soul. Honestly. I took one look at that video someone posted earlier of the breakup with Cullen and the hurt on his face...I literally cannot get it out of my head. Seeing him finally happy and thinking he'd found a connection with someone else only to have it ripped away...I cannot deal with the feels. I don't want to. Not even knowing that he'll be forever loved in my world state will get that image out of my mind. I'm just going to pretend I never saw that video and that all Cullens in all the parallel universes live happily ever after. Precious babies.

 

 

Not to come off a bit, but that last sentence kind of.....rubbed me a bit wrong. As someone who is a virgin, it makes it seem likesomeone like myself would be completely clueless/ignorant in the realms of sexual positions and situations, but I'm confident I would surprise a lot of people! I'm not looking to cause any trouble, as tumblr is currently doing that with these (in my opinion) completely baseless arguments. But, I would just kindly ask to be a little bit more....considerate? That's all I ask. But, yes, everyone should feel free to head cannon as they wish, and I chose to make him a virgin because it's what I feel comfortable with!

 

Yeah I just want to say I completely agree with you. I'm also a virgin but I'm absolutely aware of what I want and I'd know how to get it...with the right person. c; LOL. But seriously, though. I totally support women and men who are okay with one night stands but it's not personally my thing. I know some people are really keen on the idea that you have to stop being a virgin by a certain age or there's something wrong with you. I think that can be really unhealthy way of looking at sex, especially since I had one of my friends in 5th grade tell me she already planned to have sex before she was 18. She had a really tough home life and we were both ten when she told me this, so it just really rubbed me the wrong way. I don't see being a virgin as a state of being that automatically makes Cullen somehow less mature than someone who has had a lot of sexual experience. We all know how capable he is when it involves important things that affect the lives of other people, and that already makes him totally different from Alistair.

 

Storywise I also can't see him having had the chance to really do it anyway since he's so strict with himself over Templar rules against fraternization and as Knight-Captain I imagine that included lower ranking Templars under his command as well as mages. And we know the lovely ladies didn't think he'd be okay with them serving his recruits so there's that.

 

Introverts tend to have very active imaginations and prize closeness with a few people. Get one to open up to you and trust you and you're definitely in for a surprise. So yeah, as an introvert myself I feel like Cullen's approach to relationships is somewhat similar to my own, and it's not hard for me to believe that he's a virgin. I can joke about sex with my more rambunctious friends perfectly fine and Cullen looks to be the same way with Bull. But that's just me. I'm glad to see there are so many different interpretations and stories involving Cullen. It's a testament to his popularity and depth of character.

 

Edit: Oh snap. My fault for not reading on after that post and seeing what was said afterwards. I probably shouldn't have written this. whelp. sigh
