So you're telling me his name is Good-Looking McHandsome
I'd say that I'm surprised, but that would be a lie since really I'm not.

waitwaitwait Rutherford ALSO means good looking lad? Am I reading that right? LOL

Oops. Actually, I just spaced the lines wrong. Its supposed to say that Cullen is also a surname.
His name also means Cub, so I suppose that's where the lion's helmet comes from.
Wow, starting to see lots of people coming back out after their first PTs! Glad to see everyone returning! ![]()

OK that was my other interpretation, since we have seen it also be a surname. Yeah, I love that his first name means handsome dude, although drawing such parallels also takes us into sparkly vampire territory. ![]()

That's really... so cute... my god. my heart... cant do this.
That's really interesting! Would you say the romance played differently on the mage v templar side? There's still part of me that's wondering if it should've reloaded to pick the mages since I want to romance someone else next PT.
Not really, no. The romance itself was the same, there were two extra flirt options, but that was it.
What did give the romance a completely different tone was being a mage and using the unique mage dialogue options - it went from two derpy adults awkwardly falling in love without them, to full-out star-crossed, should we or should we not with them. The central conflict of the romance moves from helping Cullen with his addiction so he can have a clear head to be in a relationship, to the relationship itself being the point of contention. It's a very specific mage/Templar tension tone, your mileage may vary on whether you'd enjoy that or not, depending on what you're looking for with his romance. I didn't, but I remember a lot of people were hoping for that so I can see that it made a lot of mage players happy.
But the faction choice alone? Nah. Exact same romance, just a different tone in Cullen's characterization. I kinda recommend maybe watching at least the start of the Before the Dawn quest on YouTube first before rolling a whole new character or rolling back dozens of hours to try the other faction, though. It will give you an idea of what I mean by Cullen coming off completely different, so you can maybe see from that whether that's something you wanna play through, or whether you're content enough with what you got. I don't regret playing through it because it's Cullen screentime either way, but... as I said a bunch of pages ago, in the end I'm personally more content with my original playthrough than with this alternate one. Mileage and stuff. ![]()

Cullen McCullenson, alright. ![]()
So Rutherford the surname is from Rutherford the town name.
"The place name Rutherford is derived from the Old English words 'hryder' which meaning 'cattle' and 'ford,' which is 'shallow part of the river.'" (source)
LOL So rather, Handsome McShallow.

Well he is race-gated against Qunari and Dwarves, so he is a little McShallow... ![]()

Cool. Thanks. I'm sad I'll miss the two flirts, but it sounds like I can just roll that way next playthrough. I too like the romance I got.

So I had this party banter between Sera and Blackwall, where she complains that Josie wont let her have cake, because its supposed to be for the VIP guests in Shyhold. Later on I go visit Cullen and he tells me that he got cake from Sera and was wondering if I knew if it was some kind of trap. Hah, Sera trying to get Cullen into trouble?
Playing Dwarf right now, planning on romancing Sera. Hit on Cullen but he shut me down, nicely though =)

Yep, I got these two banters in that same order too. Oh, Sera.
I can picture the scene: Inquisitor convinces Cullen that the cake was just a nice gesture, Cullen goes "oh well" and decides to eat the cake, and just when he and Quizzie are pigging out on it, frosting all over their face from all the cakey kissy-kissy... Josie kicks the door open and gives the two of them that Antivan death glare of doom. ![]()

It sure sounds like something Sera would do, lol. Ahh, love her to pieces, even though I have no idea what she is saying. I just wait for her to say "innit?" then giggle ...
I've been messing with this actually and can't get it to work. I don't have the option to Run as Administrator for Inquisition, and I'm wondering if that's because I got it from Origins.
Ah, I think I can just change how it runs in the Security shortcut options. We'll see.

I've played through both as well and I think I preferred the pro-mage arc. As you said, Cullen is a lot more angsty, but for me it was
So I agree with you...a pro-templar Cullen seems to be much more business-together...and a pro-mage Cullen seems to be laid more bare, which gives a deeper story, in my opinion. This is because if you go pro-templar, the Venatori become the "bad guys to focus on." If you go pro-mage, the red templars are allowed to grow and become the focus.
So you're telling me his name is Good-Looking McHandsome
Could it be anything else ? ![]()

I wonder if any of the devs had any idea what they were creating in DAO when someone decided it would be funny to have a shy, smitten Templar who ran off if you flirted too heavily with him?
I wonder if any of the devs realised that his hair isn't actually that curly despite Varric's nickname, making me wonder if "Curly" is actually a sly reference to how exposed he found himself after he epically lost that game of Wicked Grace...?

Or maybe Cullen straightens his hair every morning and Varric knows his dark secret of noodle hair XD
