They were definitely still together. And the Keep had him as a real love interest. She talked about him and how he's still dealing with challenges to his throne. And then when she leaves, Varric goes to write a letter to Seb about where she went. I was over the moon that it finally recognized my Seb rivalmance!!

 

I just checked, and I swear that option wasn't there when I selected my choices! I hope they added it later instead of me being a doofus and just missing it. Boo.

I was really surprised by Cullen in this game. I was pretty neutral on him, but he has some truly shining moments in this game. One that I particularly liked was a little conversation at the war table after the 'Wicked Eyes' quest. Leliana's ending words are gold!

Her words have been my sig line since I first heard that conversation   So much of the old Lel showing through there.

 

I was a bit of a fence sitter myself - fascinated with Cullen's character development, but not sure whether I'd actually like him in DAI. I never expected to really like his romance, but I think it's going to be my favorite.

Lol, I conscripted the mages and disbanded the templars. I am such a fence sitter, I didn't want to fully support either group, especially when both have pretty damning faults going for them. What did you do? I am wondering if I should 'support' the templars this time around.  

 

Going to spoiler-tag this just to err on the safe side, though it's nothing you don't learn two seconds into it:

It's an artifact of how both quests were written, the mages one having them knowingly allying with Alexius, and the Templars being unknowingly manipulated by Envy - but I conscripted the mages (even if I support their cause for just treatment, what they did in Redcliffe was criminal, and the alliance with Tevinter unjustifiable, even to their own - none of the Redcliffe mages was content with Fiona's leadership, many of them were against the whole rebellion itself); and I took the Templars in as allies (the surviving Knights and Lieutenants resisted the Red Lyrium and rebelled against the corruption among their higher officers, even with everything working against them they still wanted to do right by the Order to the end - I gave them the chance).

 

My personal interpretation, of course. And none of that is passing judgement on the cause or errors of either side -I did that with my choice of Divine. Just decisions based on how the situation was presented through the quests themselves.

Yup I agree as well, it's what I meant when I said a while back that choosing a side doesn't mean we actually support their ideologies. At this point I'm only using the terms "pro-mage" and "pro-templar" to signify the which side I managed to save first. They're definitely misnomers in the purely semantic sense.

To me it seemed like Fiona had just made bad decisions out of desperation, and that Alexius was scaring them into submission at that point. I didn't feel like allying myself with mages meant I was allying myself with Alexius, and you do get the chance to serve him justice by the end. But yeah, I'm beginning to feel bad about letting Ser Barris and the remaining good templars die, I've seen videos of a few of the scenes and Barris was such a trooper. I'll just imagine that I somehow managed to save both sides in my head. It makes me feel better

The first time Fiona approaches you she is not actually working with Alexius, doesn't mention him at all, and just wants to help with the Breach. However, when you approach Redcliffe Cassandra comments that the strange rift that is there seemed to alter time. I also recall that you'll find letters around Redcliffe mentioning that the Venatori are deliberately manipulating the mages there to be fearful of everything around them using guerilla tactics, and to convince them that they needed to accept Venatori protection for this reason. This has likely gone on for a very long time because of Alexius' time traveling ability. He got to them before you could follow up on her offer in time. By the time you reach Redcliffe, Fiona either does not remember having approached you at all (because her past was altered) or is covering up the fact that she went to meet you out of the same fear Alexius has been planting in their heads for some time - I forget which was the case, but either way I felt that the mages were just as much victims as the Templars, even if Fiona no longer has the perspective to understand it properly.

I just finished the game, and I just wanted to say thank you to Bioware for Cullen. He was absolutely awesome - a manly man with a soft, sweet side. No demon babies, no demon lovers, no chaste marriages, just a sweet awesom dude. I think he might have topped Alistair in my book - never thought that could happen.

just to add to that, the way some mages and fiona talk during your trip, it seems like the venatori have pretty much convinced them that there's an army of templars practically on their doorstep and the only way to save the village and the mages is to siphon as many of them to tevinter as possible. Fiona doesn't seem to actually remember going to val royeaux at all, so i'm willing to bet in the "alexius time-travelled to before she departed to offer aid to the inquisition" horse.

Continuing the Experiments In Flirting... last time I learned what happens when you lead Blackwall on while aiming for a relationship with Cullen (spoilers: he still has feelings for you long after you've committed to someone else, it's all kinda sad and regretful and I'm not doing that again); today I learned what happens when you lead Cullen on while aiming for a relationship with Blackwall:

And I finally got my girl looking almost exactly like I wanted. I modeled her after Olivia Munn because I have the biggest girl crush on her. She is so pretty! But it is really hard trying to create the likeness in the CC. Here she is!

Yeah, that's what I thought I remembered, thanks! So basically

Fiona's intention all along was to approach you civilly to offer her aid, and it was out of her power that Alexius went and trapped her in a time bubble to manipulate events in his favor. I definitely remember reading that letter about how they were using scare tactics against the mages to convince them they were being closed in on from all sides. She only agreed to his leadership because she didn't think she could safely leave to get help from anyone the way she did before he went back in time. Funnily enough the concept of the "Anchor" is very suitable here considering you're the only constant in the branching timelines who has any hope of drawing everyone back to the right plane of existence. Even though you saw the righteous Fiona at Val Royeaux, Alexius' actions rendered that version of her nonexistent. And yet you still saw her, so....
