So has anyone noticed that piece of loot on the bridge in the opening sequence. It's right there in front of you as you are running up with Cassandra just before the bridge falls with the two of you on it, but no matter what I do, I can't get to it to loot it. Why is it there? Has anyone been able to get to it before the bridge gets bombed?

About the mage/templar decision:

First of all, if you're playing a rebel mage or a character who wanted to be a templar or is afraid of magic, it makes sense to go check on their preferred group, even if choosing a quest doesn't mean agreeing with the group. But for all others, I've been thinking about the decision without meta-gaming: it seems to me that to a more neutral Inquisitor who would like to recruit both groups' aid, going for the mages makes more sense because as far as you know they offered you an alliance already. You need allies fast and that seems easy enough, while the templars appear to be already against you. That said, I can see how you could play an Inquisitor that thinks it would be more pressing to check what happened to the templars and the apparent threat there, thinking they would have enough time to meet with the mages later, but it just seems weird to delay what you think will be one talk with a group that's struggling to go on a trip to check on hostiles.

 

Anyway, the point where I'm having trouble roleplaying a justification is if you go see the mages and discover the Venatori threat, why in the world would you leave that be and go check on the templars? At that point you're expecting a fight on both sides, so why would you delay dealing with the situation you know a lot more about and seems very dangerous? Any help with that?

I was thinking about pitching the mages into the Void after they allied with the Venatori, but then I walked around Redcliffe and talked to all the random mages. It seems the decisions that led them to that point were largely made without the approval of many who just want things to get back to some semblance of normalcy. Many didn't even want the rebellion but went along because it was the vote.

 

After that, I had a much harder time turning my back on them and leaving them in Venatori hands.

Haha, everyone is going to like different things but the templar play-through is more to my liking when it concerns romancing Cullen. I am starting to convince myself to trash this play-through and go back to siding with the templars.It is how I wanted to see Cullen, for me, it is perfect to my tastes. Just the right amount of angst, cuteness, humour and love. When you chuck in the added angst from his nemesis quest, for me personally, it is just that little bit unnecessary.  

 

I have done that in the past with other games.  Sided with a faction...that went against how I was role playing that toon.  It drove me crazy. I had to go back to that point and do it all over again.  It was hours and hours of gameplay but I felt better in the end because it was how I pictured her.

Yeah I totally get what you're saying,

both sides had underlings who disagreed with the leadership but at least the leader of the mages actually intended to offer you their aid before you even asked. Partly because they really needed the protection either way, but nonetheless the logical and efficient option seems to be to recruit willing allies first in times of war. I honestly did not intend to take sides even though I play a mage (because taking sides in this debate in Thedas has never helped anyone historically, let's be honest LOL) but it felt most natural to me to help the mages first after seeing their plight. Cullen's extra mission was a bonus

 

Not all mages are righteous but Fiona's group was literally just trying to survive. I can't fault them for that, especially if they felt like they were backed into a corner. There have always been mages who give into bad magic because they felt like their lives were at stake.

 

I don't think choosing to save Templars first is bad by any means though, I just feel like justifying why I don't think Fiona's decisions were made lightly or foolishly and that what she ended up agreeing to wasn't indicative of a weakness within the mage faction as a whole. It was a bad decision, but one Alexius terrorized her into making and one she would not have chosen had you managed to get to her in time. She was just another victim caught in the headlights of the big bad. Corypheus is trying to manipulate everything to his favor - whether you're a mage or a Templar makes no difference to him.
