Oh one question I have and really sorry if this has been answered but this thread is huge, but does Cullen break up with you if you tell him to start taking lyrium again? I read he did but just wanted to check what he said, as I intend to help him keep off the stuff in all my PTs.

What happens if you don't

go to Redcliffe to speak to Fiona before heading to Therinfall? I know you lose the chance to recruit the Tranquil dude, but are you completely locked out of Redcliffe for good? In any case, my mage, after finding out Fiona sold the mages into slavery, would probably dash off to find the Templars to stop that nonsense anyway.

I actually really really liked the narrative progression of taking Fiona for her word and checking out her offer, only to find Redcliffe overtaken by magisters, the local population and even the Arl all kicked out of their land, hearing the mages all half-aprehensive of the Tevinters and half-angry at Fiona, then meeting Dorian and hearing about the creepy time-magic stuff, and finally getting Cassandra to say "this whole affair is distasteful; perhaps we should seek out the Templars instead" on your way out. It gave me a good roleplaying open lane to nope the hell out of there and go fetch some Templars to deal with this whole mess.

It was a very well constructed path, in that sense, and made a lot of sense for my character: giving the mages a chance to speak for their side, but ultimately making the rational, sensible decision for an outsider muggle with no stakes in this conflict - Tevinter mages are doing creepy stuff, Templars deal with mages doing creepy stuff, quod erat demonstrandum. That her decision then condemned those very mages she intended to help by taking the long way around added some good gravitas to her story, and made for pretty interesting conversations with Dorian, where he kind of resents her for not helping him with Felix, but also respects her decision to not get caught up in the crazy. Very satisfied with this turn out, myself.

In any case, I think that doesn't lock anything out in Redcliffe other than the two agents you can recruit there pre-faction choice. I know there are civillians there who give you fetch quests you can still complete way after the faction quest is done, so they're probably still there to start their quests later on too, if you missed them the first time around.

eta: OH. Actually there's one more thing you miss if you don't visit Redcliffe first.

Connor's cameo, if he's alive in your playthrough. He disappears after Champions is done, but I refuse to accept that he was taken with the rest. No, he just noped out of there too and went off to hide with uncle Teagan and cousin Alistair at the royal palace until the madness was over. It is law.

As far as I know he does.  Eventually he sort of becomes more robotic and breaks up with the Quizzy.

If you tell him to keep taking lyrium and then later tell him he chose that life instead of "we'll find another way after we're done/I was wrong, stop taking it", he will break it off with you. At least, that's how I've understood how that goes down.

I couldn't bare to tell him to have him keep taking it.   I did the scene just to see what it looked like...it was heart breaking...he looked so defeated after...wow...I had to re-load and mentally say never again.

In mine, he disappeared after I did In Hushed Whispers as well, so I think it's pretty safe to assume that's exactly what happens.

Heh, I guess the little following for Ser Barris is a lot like the following for Cullen in the original DA:O isn't it ? Not a big role, but he left a big impression.

 

 

I really hope they find a way to get him in the next game in a fairly big role. I know he can die...but he's just so cool.

I don't know how that could happen without pulling another Anders/Leliana.

For one, Barris is presumed dead on the mage side, because since you weren't at Therinfall to stop Envy, no one could save Barris et al from being forced into the Red Lyrium by Denam and the other officers. You probably killed him as a random behemoth later, on that side. And then, he can even die on the Templar side too, if you don't hold the barrier long enough, which is really really hard to do on higher difficulties.

His odds of survival in the game are actually pretty low, considering that most players will probably go mage-side (if nothing else, because the main quest sort of railroads you into it), and even Templar-siding players run he risk of losing him. It sucks, because Barris is one of the most interesting new characters in the game, but... odds are not looking good for him. :\

You'll want to make sure you've given in all creature research materials beforehand since they are kept in the same folder, but after that, yes.

Harding is adorable. We definitely need her as a companion. Other than Shale she'd be the first normalish female Dwarf companion too, wouldn't she? I'd love to see her perspective.

Heh, don't get me wrong, I adore him and am 500% in the camp of him returning eventually. I'm going out of my way to go in overlevelled this time around to make sure he survives my "canon" playthrough (on Nightmare this time ), just in case. He and Harding are my faves of the new batch of side NPCs with potential to grow into amazing major characters.

My Inquisitor is still level 5, I think, but I came back to Haven from the Hinterlands and she asked to speak to me when I was turning in beast parts.

She asked if people had been treating me poorly because I was an elf, which led slowly into some questions about my clan and rumors about the Dalish. It's the only actual conversation I've had about being an elf, much less Dalish. Otherwise, there have just been a few side remarks.

Oh yeah, definitely. I have nothing against the Templars at all, I just meant that I'd be starting the playthrough much quicker than I anticipated Both sides have had their bad apples, I'm not going to judge the whole group based on the poor decisions of a few. I really want to see whether this Barris love is going to metamorphose him into a beautiful major character butterfly, like Cullen. LOL

That's what we're hoping for. He definitely has the potential to be something special.
