Man, the game felt like it ended so suddenly and with everything so perfect, I swear I fear that it's a fade dream-- referring back to how Solas said the anchor allows the Inquisitor to dream in particular clarity. I'm almost worried that it will be revealed in DLC that the Inquisitor was in a comer all this time or something. ;~;

How could you not? Every time I try to play something different I just end up going back to the same class.

I daresay that DAI's rogue is as comfortable and immersive as when I play mages. That alone demonstrates to me how well rogues in DAI are built. I normally hate rogues, and I'm still have a blast.

I prefer the Templar side, recruitment quest and subsequent fallout, because:

- I found the Envy quest overall better written than the Alexius one. Clearly defined purpose, interesting villain, very interesting moral challenging of who you are and who you will be. The mage quest got muddled up by a weak villain, a weak premise, timey-wimey, and a cliché time travel loop that I've seen in at least a dozen different Doctor Who episodes before. Plus, super charismatic character in Ser Barris, versus super wallpaper Felix.
 
- Through the Templar side you get decent introductions to both Cole and Dorian. Through mage side you are only introduced to Dorian, and Cole literally drops into your game out of thin air. I've seen many people complaining that Cole was never eased into the story and his first appearance was "random," and inevitably it turns out they played only mage side, so they never saw Cole's proper introduction. Which is very well done, creepy and unsettling as Cole ought to be, and gave me several opportunities to answer other people's doubts about him later with, he saved my life and I trust him okay.
 
- I already disliked Fiona from the books - the mage quest exacerbated that dislike into borderline hate. The one good thing mage side did better over Templar side, is that I got to see Alistair and Anora chew Fiona out for everything that needed to be said and no one was willing to say until then, but it's not worth putting up with Fiona for the rest of the game. I'm not content that she died an easy death on Templar side without actually paying for everything she's done, but at least the mages are free from her clutches now, and that's progress.
 
- I really, really disliked Samson's nemesis quest. Objectively, I found the Calpernia quest better written at large, and Calpernia herself a more compelling nemesis than Samson. Then, subjectively, I hated what this quest did to Samson, a character I really liked, I hated what it did to Cullen's emotional stability after I saw him so serene and content on the Templar side, I hated what it did to the Templars in general, and Maker I hate how there is no way to salvage Samson from the ruin they turned him into. Each one of his words at his judgement was like a punch in the face, and I was feeling like trash after finishing this quest.
 
- Have I mentioned Ser Barris yet because Ser Barris alone is worth everything, and his face when you promote him to Knight-Commander. I can't. I'm so proud of him I could cry. Precious thing.

I love to read your perspectives. So well thought out and articulate. I just wanted to add some thoughts, very YMMV...

I actually found the entire Days of Future Past quest with Dorian to be just as emotionally engaging as the Templar side. I didn't find Felix to be "super wallpaper" at all; I loved the relationship between Felix and Alexius. As a parent, I can definitely relate to wanting the best for your child, and even thinking about going to absolute psychopath extremes to ensure a beloved child's safety. On the flip side, Felix tried to save his father from becoming a monster, while coming to terms with the fact that he's dying at a pretty young age. There was a lot of interesting subtext between Dorian and Felix, as well, that I thought added to the mix.

For me, also, seeing what the future could be if Corypheus wins... Seeing what becomes of your followers and then watching Leliana's Crowning Moment of Awesome sacrifice to ensure that this world doesn't happen... GUH. Gets me right in the feels. It ups the stakes, for sure, in a way that I didn't feel on the Templar side. I like the time travel stuff, though, so take it as you will.

BUT, Ser Barris is totally delightful. Reason enough to just go Templar from now on, haha?

Anyway, I finished a second, much more complete playthrough. Cullen and my Cadash had really strong chemistry. He felt more my romance than my romance. And I liked him resuming lyrium but Cadash promising to find a better way. Optimistic but not too optimistic. I sided with the mages. I liked the Cullen parts of Before the Dawn, but I really miss Calpernia. So I'd really like to take another ctack at the Cullen romance in future.

Interesting... seems like the patch has restored minor content here and there. Doing Solas' first quest in the Hinterlands with the elven artifacts for like the fourth or fifth time now, and for the first time there was an extra NPC involved, and a reward at the end. Never got that before.

So, I encountered Ser Michael in Emprise Du Lion earlier and I killed Imshael for him (why he couldn't come along to help, I don't know). Anyway, I went back to tell him and he was like "what? I've been trying to kill him for ages and you just went up there and defeated him just like that? Er, thanks anyway, i'm gonna go and find more demons like him to kill!"

... Isn't he supposed to join the Inquisition? Or does that only happen if you go pro-mage? Also, that encounter was anticlimatic, little shite made his excuses not to help me kill Imshael, then tells me off for being more of a badass than he is.

Hmm, I'm running a mage this time through and I just had to make the Templar/Mage choice. I really gave the Templars serious consideration, but I just couldn't see a mage going for it, at least not this particular one. Sure Circle life wasn't all that bad, but then there were Templars standing around like the jailors they are, taking advantage of those mages who didn't have the power or connections to be left alone.

 

I had her go around and poke everyone more than once thinking, "Someone, provide me with an argument for the Templars here. Justify them to me and sway me away from my own kind ..." and it just didn't happen. There is no attempt to sway you one way or other with any real persuasion.

 

So I guess it will up to my 2H warrior to side with the Templars because he doesn't have the baggage that goes with them in his past.

First of all by the town, then he magically appeared at the Keep so I helped him fight those red templars at the door, he said something ambiently, I had no option to talk to him beyond that. Then I found him again and he said that he wanted to fight Imshael but the villagers needed him for something and buggered off, so I fought the demon myself, went back to him and he said what I described in the last post, lol.[/spoiler]
