Yeah, but she wants things exactly as they were, and my character doesn't exactly want that. She mistrusts Templars. Viv doesn't help.

That whole Michel quest is bugged; the journal says to "talk to the villagers" but you can't speak to a single one!

First of all by the town, then he magically appeared at the Keep so I helped him fight those red templars at the door, he said something ambiently, I had no option to talk to him beyond that. Then I found him again and he said that he wanted to fight Imshael but the villagers needed him for something and buggered off, so I fought the demon myself, went back to him and he said what I described in the last post, lol.[/spoiler]
Huh. I'd chalk it up as bugged. You did literally what I did, and he couldn't join the Inquisition fast enough.

This is probably not spoilery, so I won't use tags.
What is the cannon on when Cullen was recruited into the Inquisition? Was it right after Hawke left Kirkwall, or did Cullen get a chance to actually work as the Knight-Commander of Kirkwall for a little while first? I figured he did because of something spoilery in Inquisition where he was referred to as being the former Knight-Commander of said city.

So he's not supposed to help you fight Imshael then? Kinda defeats the purpose of him knocking about in Emprise Du Lion for months really, doesn't it, LOL!
Eh, you know what people are like in Thedas. They all just expect things to be done for them.

The village in Emprise must be buggy. I could talk to the villagers and got Michel's quest to work all right, but the quest with the lady you judge went all out of order, and I couldn't talk to the lady with the empty box in the first house, ever.

*Sighs* another anticlimax. I was looking forward to running into him in-game after reading the book.

Though I usually play as a mage I actually wouldn't have a problem siding with the Templars on my next playthrough because while some of them would abuse (and have abused) their power, I like to imagine that my mage chars didn't actually run into as many problems with them myself. Not the way we saw in Kirkwall, at least. My Warden was very happy running around talking to the Templars in the Kinloch Hold and while some of them didn't want to talk others were pretty okay with telling me about life outside - and weren't rude about it, either.
Also, Cullen seemed to really respect your abilities and wanted to talk to you more even if he knew there'd never be a romance, so I got the sense that I was meant to find Templars approachable and that Cullen was trying to understand more about where I was coming from, too. It also meant that my mage probably never caused him trouble. But, as always, radicals ruin everything. In Origins, the evil outlier was Uldred. In DAII, it was Meredith when she succumbed to insanity.
I really appreciate Vivienne's presence because of her moderate and reasonable opinions as a mage, personally. The only way to resolve the issue between mages and templars is for both sides to understand the possible suffering they can cause and to find ways to compromise. Templars need to be taught to understand that mages are people with emotional needs like any other and that magic isn't inherently evil, mages need to learn that they do have massive responsibilities that necessitate a control system of some sort (hopefully one that requires less human rights violations in the future >_>;; hah. ).
I chose to side with the mages in my playthrough not so much because I thought they were 100% right but because I wanted more of a chance to work with Cullen, LOL. cry

It's a bit muddled up because we don't see the progression of time, but there's actually a three-four years gap between the very last time you see Hawke in DA2, and Varric's interrogation that sets the narrative of the game. So whether Hawke ran away (mage side) or became Viscountess (Templar side), it took Cassandra at least three years to catch up with Kirkwall.
In this meantime, Cullen was leading the Templars (or what was left of them) in the efforts to rebuild the city, and protecting the remaining mages in the Circle (or, again, what was left of them). R2 just confirmed with Brianne earlier today that whether Cullen was promoted or not depends on who you sided with -from mage side Cullen remains Knight-Captain, from Templar side he is promoted to Knight-Commander- but regardless of title, for the next three years after the Anders incident Cullen was leading the remaining Templars - probably up until the rebellion broke out in full, and his own Templars started defecting (Samson, etc).

I conscripted the mages on my second playthrough, though I'm not quite done with it yet I vastly prefer the Templar side.

Good question. I always wondered why she looked like this in that quest. Just a year of torture doing that to her?

Templar's side more fulfilling IMO...
Mage's side is nice though, but not as fulfilling as templar's. Still, I can't wait to see Cullen's Before Dawn quest

Tee hee, finally able to make an Inquisitor that I love (my first one's got weird face due to bad mastery of CC). Meet Elena Trevelyan, the red-headed fiery mage.

Nah, it's not that I was playing the "all Templars are evil" angle. More that they shouldn't have the degree of power they do as it tends to bring out the worst in some. She's afraid of what it might signal if she sides with them, what conclusions could be drawn. And yes, she's seen both sides of the coin - good and bad - and knows they exist. She just wishes that mages weren't imprisoned and forced to endure whichever side comes up for them.
Also, if I'm playing without meta knowledge, there isn't anything in the game itself that says you can't go for the Templars after the mages, at least, not for your PC although you know it very well because the game makes it clear.
