Literally, nothing. He dies. There's no build up or anything. You walk up. Kill him and maybe 2-3 other dudes. No one says anything. Anywhere. I had wondered if he showed up in the nemesis quest, since this was so limited.Any letters from in nearby or anything?

I know, now I'm glad I got Sten hand him over his stolen cookies!Oh, gosh. Poor Cullen... poor Carroll! He literally turned into a mutant!! ... What's scary is that could've easily been Cullen. Urgh, I don't even wanna think about it.
I'm even more glad that it wasn't Cullen though.

I don't think so. You can find other letters from him though all over the Emerald Graves.
I thought we'd actually talk to him when I saw this. I reckoned I just missed it. Like all the other good cameo content. ![]()

Yeah, sounds like a reference to the Gallows. Probably some lingering guilt over leaving the Templars?
Maybe guilt at letting Meredith hang those Starkhaven mage's bodies up in the Gallows? Or a metaphor for something? Would be cool if it was a hint for future DLC or something? Not that I want him to almost get hanged or anything, lol.

Another missed opportunity. Still, at least there's a little more ambient dialogue about his lyrium withdrawal, if nothing else.

Well, I bet you only get that ambient dialogue if you go pro templar. Just a feeling. Sadly, of the people that played origins, there's a good chance they won't remember Carroll and he means literally nothing to everyone else, so it's easy to miss.

Naw, you don't get any of that at all if you go pro-templar. Oddly, pro-mage gets you the most content and air time with Cullen, lol.

Nope. You get absolutely nothing. I think the only dialogue you can hear about Carroll is the one in the video that was posted earlier.

Sorry, I meant the video dialogue specifically felt pro templar. I certainly didn't hear it in my pro mage playthrough, but I missed most of it, it seems. Good thing I played pro mage first, I guess.

I went protemplar (derp!), and I didn't get any of that dialogue either. I think I heard one about Uldred marking him from Cole, but that's it. I wonder if the patch fixes this.
edit: Come to think of it. If there was supposed to be this much dialogue with his assistant person, visiting him would have been a lot more entertaining than him pretending like he's not sleeping with me half the time. "Was there something you needed?" Pfft.

Cullen has totally ruined this game for me. I try to rush through as much as I can as quickly as I can so I can move the romance forward. I love the interactions and his story.
What a sweetie!
As soon as I can get through the game I will play again... more slowly . I was going to play as a male mage and romance Cass for my second playthrough, but think I may have to go for Cullen again.
Gurrrrrlllll I'm in the same boat.
I'm on my second playthrough and trying to focus on Solas (as I hear the romance is friggin fabulous).
So I'm romancing Solas to take my mind off Cullen, and I had romanced Cullen in the first place to take my mind off Alistair...
DAMN YOU CULLEN!!!

The only one I heard was Iron Bull doing something with the shields though I am not sure if it was because I was always too eager to talk to Cullen so I would just run on in there like an excited puppy and click on him or if it is bugged.

Not gonna lie, it kinda bothers me that some key plot points and aspects of the character's story arcs play out via the war table and "kill the thing/collect the thing" style quests. I dunno if that's down to cut content that got thrown back in as war table filler, or if they didn't have the word budget for it, but things like encountering Carroll certainly warrants at least one extra piece of dialogue from him... I mean, what better way to learn more about Cullen's past before his torture etc than to have him tell us about it, it wouldn't even need to be dramatic, he could just tell us how he knew him and what he was like prior to turning into a mutant etc.
See, this is where DA:O got it so right, even with the silly little side quests you could return to the person giving that quest and get some sort of dialogue/details as a result.

I got the shields one yesterday, I also had the Uldred one from Cole, but that's all.

Closure! I loved how you could get the companions to talk about the places they went on Origins, too. There were more companions, though. I'm sure word budget was a BIG factor.

How can you forget someone as important as the queen of Antiva? =P I always liked that dialogue in Origins because it had some funny options for your companions.

Speaking of never referenced, but giant war table stuff, I heard an interesting and disturbing rumour today...this is even bigger than the Lavellan clan being slaughtered...

I got all of those banters in the video from both Templar-side and mage-side, for what it's worth it. It's luck of the draw who'll be affected by banter bugs, but neither faction gated any of the exchanges with his aide, as far as I noticed it.

Yeah, I swear in DA:O you could ask them all sorts of really mundane and personal stuff!
It's hard to put my finger on where DAI falls flat with this, since the "ask all the things" dialogue has returned and you can kiss them whenever you want in the Skyhold etc, but it doesn't feel as intimate or personal/engaging as it did in DA:O. I feel like part of it is down to the third person ambient-esc camera angle when talking to companions, but it goes beyond that. Maybe it's partly because we can't talk to them when we're out in the field? In DA:O it felt like the companions all had more opinions on the quests we were doing, even a fair few of the side quests... or maybe it just gave that illusion because the side quests were often cleverly weaved into the main plot? I dunno, all I know is that (for me) it never quite hits the mark when interacting with the characters.

Or just symbolic of "the Gallows" in general.
