I am unable to understand how anybody can bash Cullen...

To me, his romance seems very healthy considering the other options for a straight female quizzie. The next healthiest? IB...at least in my opinion.

most of the times people just like being mean to others. They probably don't even care about Cullen they just know of his fans and like making them feel bad. Been lurking in this thread for ages now and sometimes people have good arguments for not liking him and othertimes they just want to be asses towards others. This is going on long before he was a romance option.

Okay so...I've been seeing a lot of Dragon Age confessions about Cullen's romance being "poisonous" and I'm seriously confused...I see Cullen as a complete gentleman (well...that first kiss was a bit saucy lol) when you're romancing him.  Can anyone clarify on why the internet is pissed this time? (I know, it's a tall order.)

Cullen has lot of haters. The amount seems be have dropping with DAI where he is less pro-templar and you get to know him better too. I guess some still want to keep hating. I haven't heard anything poisonous about Cullen's romance this far so my guess is that the comment came from old hate towards Cullen ^^;

Ha, try living in the Northeast US! In the winter we have constant temps around 10 - 20 degrees F and snow snow snow! Storms that drop 2+ feet at once are common. Then, in the summer it's super humid with temps above 90 all the time. It feels like you're wearing a wet wool sweater outside, so we have to live in air conditioning. Last year I got heat stroke at a renaissance fair because the air was so heavy. :(

Spring and Fall however? Absolutely beautiful...makes me really love living in New England.

Sounds like Toronto... I've lived there for a long time. During the winter, the windchill will blow the skin off your face, in the summer, it's so humid, it's like you're breathing in water... :) Fall is very colourful, with all the maple trees :) No maple trees out in the west, though...

I've been a fan since Origins...even in DA:2, I didn't dislike him. Based on what he'd been through I totally understood his behavior. My mage Hawke was even able to befriend him...then again, she had lots of the same views on mages and even sided with the templars in the end. She was a lot like Viv.

Yeah I'm not sure where they're getting the idea of the romance being poisonous from, if anything it's one of the healthiest romances in the game. It's not based on a lie or anything like some of the others and Cullen is completely upfront about his issues and stuff. I guess the old adage of 'Haters gonna hate' is appropriate here.

I actually just came across a post elsewhere about how "If you romanced Alistair i DA:O, Anders in DA:2, and Cullen in DA:I, then you're a racist white supremacist who doesn't deserve my respect."  I love the internet LOL.  Also apparently most of the "poisonous" banter comes from the fact that apparently Cullen is "a drug addict who takes his anger out on everyone"....I honestly don't see that at all.  The dude is trying to kick a lyrium addiction placed onto him by the chantry, I don't think any of these people have witnessed withdrawal first hand.

Like others have said, people are not really willing to give him a chance. They remember the guy from DA:O Circle quest line who wanted to kill all the mages, and think his character stayed the same. I found that in DA 2 he already changed his attitude - he wanted to stop Meredith from annulling the Circle.

They be haters, 'tis all :P So, never mind them, and just enjoy our glorious commander :D

If Cullen has amassed haters, that's because some players -invariably male ones- cannot accept feminine preferences in a game.

They can go boil their heads. We live in a democratic society. If the gaming industry can design female characters to be sexual and please the male audience, so can it design gallant, down-to-earth, shy male characters to please the female one.

****** on the haters. Don't like Cullen, pretend he's not there. That's what I do to Miranda Lawson in ME. It's everyone's moral obligation to respect the other gender's preferences. They're in the wrong, not us.

That and I didn't see him taking his anger out on anyone. He's the #2 leader of the Inquisition and commander of all the forces - he has to be a bamf.

Wow. It's pretty hilarious to try and imply that Cullen is taking his anger out on everyone. First scene, you see him helping that limping soldier get away, he always apologises immediately after being short or snapping at anyone and even when he's going through his really rough patch he still makes a point to ask the inquisitor if SHE's doing alright. Ignorance is bliss for some haters, I guess. At least anyone reasonable will actually play the game and talk to the guy before making such claims. Silly.

Since we're sort of on the topic of Cullen's lyrium addiction/withdrawal do any of you think the dev's could bring it up again later in DLC or do you think they're completely done with it?

Something resembling Xenon in concept art. Wonder if this means we'll be getting a new black emporium DLC for Inquisition?

*snip*

I lived in MI for a few years. Freezing in winter, cool in summer with enough mosquitoes to carry off small farm animals.

The seasons here? 6 months of h**l, a couple of months of schizophrenia accented by the occasional hurricane, a couple of months of periodic ice storms and cold (maybe), followed by more schizophrenia accented by tornadoes. :P

Well, if you want to cool down in the summer, and want to avoid the BC rain, I'm just on the other side of the mountains :) We're a stone's throw from Banff, and a two-hour drive from Bioware headquarters - just in case you'd be up to hanging around their offices for an autograph, or something :) Funny thing about Alberta is that the weather can be unpredictable. We don't get a lot of rain, and have lots of sunshine, but snow... we can get snow anytime.

Labour Day weekend, we went rafting on the river. It was a beautiful day, sunshine, 32 C (90 F), I even got a little sunburned. Next day - snow. The leaves hadn't fallen yet, so the snow weighed heavily, and a lot of branches snapped. Power cords broke all through the city because of collapsed branches... Oh, and it did snow a bit in July as well. So, yeah :)

Snow in July, no, that reminds me why I decided I'd put up with the deep south, though that sounds like a nice location. :P  Though it never rained in Victoria while I was there, unless it was at night.

I honestly feel like it could go either way, so many new questions were raised in this game.  I'm more interested in the possible curing of the blight in the gray wardens and the reversing of tranquility that came up vaguely.

Yes there has been lot of those around the tumblr, shaming female gamers who have romanced them all. Some people have odd obsession to policy how other people play their games I guess ^^;

Sounds like a bunch of jealous guy gamers that don't like it when girls have decent romance options created for them. But do we complain when guys are given ones like Miranda Lawson? She was so nauseatingly cliche is was laughable...but I didn't complain.

Maybe those guys are just insecure?

I think they're also latching onto his glare at the aide who interrupts the first kiss on the battlements. Which obviously means they known nothing about military organizations. One, the guy interrupts his boss without looking to make certain he isn't interrupting something important (and you'd have to be pretty blind to miss what was going on. Second, Cullen's glare is a pretty mild reprimand.

And I'm not at all sure how his is more poisonous than

Honestly, I have never seen someone hate Cullen because of female preferences in videogames. :huh: The only reasons I've seen are his so called hate for mages and the fact he got a bigger role due to increased popularity. People like to bash popular characters just for the sake of pissing people off.

Naah it's actually mostly SJW's on the tumblr.. They have problem with people liking white cis male characters. Guy gamers that are against Cullen are mostly on BSN and then male dominated sites like gaming magazine comment sections ^^;

Anyway I am pretty sure its not only the guy gamers that hate him

In DAO I did not think much about Cullen and of course did not choose to do what he asked either once the Circle was taken over. In DA2 I really did not like him and his attitude towards Mages, but I understood given his past involvement with them.

I really was unsure of how Cullen was going to be in DAI. I decided to romance him before the game came out because it was only the real option that interested me. I went with a female human mage and romanced him. In the end my reaction was “Holy Sh!t”

Considering how far Cullen has come over the Dragon Age years, I found his romance to be (almost) the best in any Dragon Age game.

It is amazing how in private Cullen is such a sweetheart to your character. He really comes through showing how much he loves and cares for your character-deeply. Cullen takes the relationship seriously and has no intentions (unless your character gives him a reason) to waver from that. The more you give yourself to Cullen the better the romance becomes.

Granted, the romance is not perfect (in my opinion) I was hoping the sex scene was a bit more intimate, giving a gift to Cullen, getting little love letters from Cullen found on your desk in the private quarters and not to mention being able to ask Cullen if he wishes to go to bed.

When I chose to play another run through the game, I cannot help but to romance Cullen all over again. I for one am definitely on the Cullen Fan train now.

Now, if we could only get added content of having the option of getting married…that would be awesome.

I'm sure his popularity had something to do with his bigger role, but I honestly was thinking he would have a bigger role even before I saw how popular he was on the BSN.

I had a theory we'd be seeing more of Cullen as soon as I saw that Greg Ellis wasn't voicing Anders in DA:2.

Then again, maybe it was just wishful thinking on my part. As I said, I've been a fan since Origins, I just didn't realize that his fans had a home on BSN til after Inquisition came out!  :D

And I still wouldn't say that he has this huge mage-hate. I don't think people should be focusing on just his reaction in the Broken Circle questline. The man was tortured because of mages. I don't know much about PTSD, but I'd imagine he would be a very good candidate. I think by the time we meet him in DA:2, he's made quite a bit of progress, proven by the fact that he can even respect a mage Hawke.
