I still find it odd that there isn't any mention of Hawke and Cullen knowing each other,or Alistair,Leliana and morrigan not getting a scene or anything :P

There was some nasty banter between Morrigan and Leliana, IIRC, which shocked me because they weren't enemies in DAO o.O

Really? When, where, how? I never encountered anything between them apart from Leliana's warning at the Winter Palace.

Maybe that was it? I just remember something, and I was like, when did they start to hate each other??

So I have no idea where I might ask about this... This thread is the only place I can think of where I might be able to get legit good suggstions about this; since it's all relatively new, I have a feeling only serious Cullen fans could help with it. :) I'm starting to plan out a Cullen cosplay, and I have all but the pauldrons and cloak worked out.

Anyways, the questions. What are Cullen's pauldrons actually made of? They kind of look like they could be feathers or fur. I also can't quite pin down their color. Are they more black, or brown? I know there are red highlights, but screencaps, promo materials, and in game always look different.

As for his cloak, does anyone have any ideas about how exactly he is wearing that? XD It looks like its just wrapped around him somehow, but it also feels like it could be a vest or something.

Slightly OT, but you mention the Warden and how s/he just sort of stumbled their way through the storyline, being new to the job and all; it felt very organic and I could often say that I felt uncomfortable as a Warden and wanted to go back home, etc. I really, really dislike how DAI thrusts us into the spotlight and our character simply accepts that and just sort of comfortably slips into the role of commander of the inquisition forces. Like, I am a nobody, a Dalish hunter who's not even Andrastrian, and I just smile peacefully and ascend my little throne and pass judgment on people I don't even care about. Very infuriating aspect of the game.

I actually thought they did quite well with the progression of you being a nobody, thrust into the role of an agent for the Inquistion who people listened to because you had the magic glowing hand, before being handed the reins as the full-fledged Inquisitor. It seemed very natural that your actions got people to pay attention and follow you as a leader, even if you weren't aware of it happening as it happened?

That being said, it could have been interesting that perhaps at first, we needed to earn a certain amount of favour with our companions to manage to convince them to go along with our plan? It did seem weird that we're able to choose who to side with in the Mage/Templar thing, over the objections of the people at our side who worked for the Chantry and probably have more of a clue about this entire conflict than most of our Inquisitor's would have? Having to work to convince those that siding with the Mages or the Templars was our best shot would have been somewhat challenging, rather than...

Inquisitor: We're siding with ___!

Everyone: Are you sure that's wise?

Inquisitor: Who has the magic hand?

Everyone: You do...

Inquisitor: And what do I tell people who disagree with me?

Everyone: *Sigh*... "Talk to the hand..."

(Especially since most of us had our Hawke's stalk him for hours in DA2) :P

They would be definitely be fur, not feathers. Fereldan clothes are traditionally lined with fur, you can even look at Alistair's king outfit for reference. There's even a great line in Masked Empire from Teagan about Fereldans favoring fur over the feathers that Orlesians love.

His cloak is actually a robe pinned to the fur pauldrons. Stand next to him for reference and picture it as a feet-long robe (like his old Templar skirts) worn under his breastplate. You'll see he pins it up twice in the front, and once in the back to make the weird draping shapes. It goes long robe -> steel breastplate -> fur pauldrons on top of it all.

I've always assumed the pauldrons are part of the cloak, and one would assume that the pauldrons are made of fur since it seems to me at least that it's function is to keep Cullen warm and feathers wouldn't really be ideal for that, also could be that most fereldan clothing have fur linings.

I mean I just don't think the "supreme leadership" role worked for all characters. You can express discomfort at being a Warden up through almost the entire game. Plus being the last of two and being faced with the end of the world, well, you haven't much choice but to actually try to kill that archdemon.

DAI assumes you want to play a character who is comfortable stepping into that leadership role almost as soon as you get to Skyhold, making key decisions, passing judgments, and so on. Idk it constantly felt forced to me. I lost my character kind of right after "And Your Heart Shall Burn."

apparently Cullen is "a drug addict who takes his anger out on everyone"....I honestly don't see that at all.  The dude is trying to kick a lyrium addiction placed onto him by the chantry, I don't think any of these people have witnessed withdrawal first hand.

Yeah, I don't see it either. He complains loudly but it's pretty clear from the dialogue that all of that anger is directed towards himself. He wants Cassandra to

Spoiler

So I totally agree with everyone else saying it's just haters hatin'. There're always going to be people out there who take joy in bashing what others like because it makes them special snowflakes. \o/

I am personally going to draw thing on his shoulders with fur on them. I don't know what the artists originally planned on them being, but since his motif is a lion I assumed the fur was meant to be a representation of a lion's mane.

As for his cloak...I've stared at it for quite a long time trying to figure out how I would design my painting and I feel like it's a leathery brown coat under the metal plates of his armor, then a red set of robes tucked over his front and under his belt somewhat like a kimono, and I felt like the fur is connected to a vest with the same red coloring as the robes and draped over his shoulders. You can see the vest has very large holes for his arms, which makes it easy to slip it over his metal pauldrons. But I can't be sure. Would be lovely if a character sheet could be officially released

Yeah, I wish there had been more chances to establish our Inquisitor's thoughts and feelings about being the Inquisitor. Sure, people would ask occasionally but there was never any moments where I felt like my Inquisitor was just winging it or that I was failing in my mission... I guess cos we were able to stump Corypheus at every turn lol. I dunno, it's hard to put my finger on exactly feels wrong about it but I just don't feel like the Inquisitor ever becomes fully actualised as a character in his/her own right.

Someone got a definitive answer on the fur from the devs. I want to say it was... bear or wolf?  I think it was Gala LolaLei who asked. But definitely fur.

The skirt drapey thing... it's akin to the Templar skirts, using the same fabric, but I honestly can't follow when folks describe how it's actually a skirt "pinned" up somehow.

For fun, Gala made a perhaps useful reference once upon a time.

cullen_reference_sheet_by_galagraphia-d7

Also, someone on here once offered up their high res shots of the back of the outfit... bueller? bueller?

I didn't feel this way about my Inquisitor. I played her rather consistently as someone who was only stepping up to lead because her heraldness gave her an edge in inspiring the masses, but that she was uncertain about why her and how she wasn't really special at all.

Yep that's pretty much how I feel. The times I felt most true to my character were when I was talking to Solas (cut scenes only, none of that stupid 3rd person POV crap) and we would discuss elven culture. I had the opportunity to be true to my character, and to either agree or argue with him in a way that felt authentic.

I think that feeling of "realness" will differ between players and inquisitors. I mean I'm sure there are plenty of people who played quizzies ready and willing to ascend the throne and command armies.

Yeah I can see how that would work. I was just completely unable to play my character as himself -- someone who's afraid of being alone around strangers, someone who is not leadership material and never wanted to be, someone who is an ardent adherent to his own religion and culture and would never feel comfortable being a religious symbol.

In a way that is my fault for going into the game with a pre-built character in mind; it's like going into ME wanting to play a pacifist Shepard lol Or well you know what I mean (since you never played ME). I couldn't even be a shem-hater.

Nevertheless it is just something minor to complain about; there were other things that really interfered with my enjoyment of the game, and not just the obvious :(

I can see that. That's one of the many reasons I don't get into the hardcore role playing with my characters. I just go with what feels right in the moment since they just can't give you that many different ways to play it.

Same, all I knew is that I was playing as myself... within the games limitations. I figured I probably wouldn't be able to get my Inquisitor to swear like a trooper but I just head canon that she's watching her mouth because she's at work, like I have to LOL!
