I always thought the other breaking-up option was worse. He may not give you the hate look but he does look absolutely heartbroken and when the cut scene is over you are outside his tower and the door has been locked.
I could never break up with Cullen--that's all I know! It's sooooo heartbreaking just seeing his eyes after you tell him you were too stupid not to lead him on all this time. Ugh. No wonder he's so pissed and upset. He just simply doesn't even TALK to you. I didn't know he locked his door, either. That's just not even cool. Cullen is sensitive and I love that about him!

What I meant was there are two ways you can break up with him. The one you posted above or the other option where you flat out tell you don't want to be with him and you don't even mention anything about being friends. He doesn't get really angry in the second option, instead he looks like the world has just fallen down around him which to me, is so much worse than the angry stare. Then, once the cut scene is over you are standing outside his tower and the door is locked. Who the hell would break-up with him for reals anyway? Crazy people. It is just too cruel.

I definitely do not have the heart to do it, and just wouldn't want to! He's... Cullen! Why would anyone want to break up with HIM?!

I did, for science. I felt horrible and after I had reloaded I think I took a good ten "woo-breaks" to make up for it. It was heart-wrenching I tell you.

You have to admit though, angry Cullen is bloody hot!
Okay, I need spoilery answers for Cullen's romance regarding lyrium:
Spoiler
What happens if you romance Cullen and make him take his lyrium again? I've heard that it could end the romance with him, but is that really true? If so, that whole thing could have gone a different way and I didn't even know it!

Apparently the second time this comes up (after you initially tell him to keep taking it - I've never forced him), you can tell/force him to take it which ends the romance - he breaks up with you then & there or you can say something like "take it for now, until we find another way" which doesn't end the relationship.
I've heard some say after he breaks up with you he's a lot more stoic/robotic towards the Quizzy and all business... I might try this path in my next PT (the "until we find another way" path LOL)
I've been mixing up some of my quest decisions and war-table advisors (shock of shocks for me lol) and boy, the outcomes can be vastly different. I only wish I was organised enough to actually remember the decisions I made so I can do it again in my next run lol.
Spoilered for bits of quest detail

I managed to have Ser Barris promoted to Knight Commander, I'm so happy about that, not too sure how I managed it though as I didn't get that in my last game.
Still got all the Wardens wiped out....that one baffles me, I didn't use Cullen for those quests this time around and they still all die.
Also, it seems like Leliana isn't captured and made ghoulish in the time machine, I'm almost at the Pride main quest and it hasn't happened yet, I did get a different quest to visit the Shrine of Dumat linked to her chain, I hadn't had that in my last game either. I'm guessing I've managed to avoid her going through hell or I'm in for a random shocker if it triggers when I don't expect it lol.
Again after the ball, I ended up only on 99/100 approval Gah! I thought I managed to get all three to work together, everything at the ball sounded like that was in fact the plan but when I get back to Skyhold, the bulletin notice only speaks of Celene. I'm not sure if it's a bug or just iffy dialogues from npc's etc.
I wouldn't have the heart to break off a romance with Cullen, I just couldn't. I've never been very good at it in any of the games I play although I did romance Fenris, lead Anders on, ditch him in my bedroom and resume with Fenris and I felt awful doing it the "for science" bit only goes so far in helping to alleviate the feelings of guilt lol.
I love Dorian so much, his banters in the party are awesome, to the point that although he is a Tevinter Mage, he seems to actually get along with everybody that I drag out in my party. I love it when he refers to Varric as his "Hirsute little friend" in a random banter, I heard that for the first time last night and started laughing out loud.
A wee Cullen/Gina screenshot proving he does sort of smile in my game

Has anybody seen what Cullen does when you break-up with him? It turns out, the most EVILEST thing you can do to him is friend-zone him! You have to watch the very end of this video to see the look on his face when you tell him you just wanna be fwends.... >_<
I don't know why anyone would break up with a BioWare romance anyhow, at least not in one of these games. They just feel too short-term. But then, I always was more of a relationship type person who intended to commit to something that was going to be more long-term. There just isn't a time frame in these games that makes me feel like I could have gotten tired of any of these romances yet.
ME was a little different. There was more time scale and sense of time passing in those games.
Here, the only way I'd want to romance someone and then break up with them is if something major happened in the middle of the relationship. Something like happens with Blackwall or something like what happens with Fenris where he leaves you for a while.
So getting ready for PT2. What's the general feeling on the Patch 2 hotfix? Should I go ahead and patch my game in Origin, or leave it off still til Patch 3? FWIW, I never had any significant game breaking or annoying bugs, so wondering if the fixes it does address are worth it.
I haven't encountered much that was fixed, but the hotfix at least addressed what they broke trying to fix stuff. I still have the DX crash, but I always had it. So, it came out as a wash for me.

I haven't had any serious errors, crashes or bugs either so I haven't patched yet. There are still reports that the patch & hotfix are causing some issues for some people, I'd rather not risk breaking my game for now. I have a 64gb memory stick so I might stick my copy of DAI onto that as a back-up and then attempt to patch it and see what happens but I'm not even that confident how that works. For now, I couldn't bare to be without my game so I'm running with the mantra "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"

I tried doing just to see what will happen but I just can't do it... It's just feel so cruel doing it to him >.<
Also... not sure if other folks were as baffled as I was about the Divine choice at the end. It honestly kinda p issed me off who I ended up with. But there's a thread that talks about how it's influenced. Not what I expected. At all. In fact... not sure I would even call it a "choice" the way it's represented.

LOL This has been mine as well. Yeah, I figured a new playthrough might be a time for a clean break, and improved PC mouse controls (like pressing F to get all the stuff in a container! at last!!!!!!!). But I don't want *more* probs. So I'm torn.
Also... totally random, but I just noticed for the first time in my next Keep import that the Warden and Hawke I chose both have the same first name. LOL I'm so unoriginal!!
Yeah, I was floored by the Divine I got in my first play through since I more or less ignored her once we got to Skyhold. It completely caught me out of the blue. I didn't even know she was an option, and I kept expecting something where I got to express my opinion after the clerics showed up asking about Leliana and Cassandra, but nothing appeared beyond some convo references to it.

For me it boils down to priorities, I'm not having too many problems or difficulties with the mouse controls, they are actually set up in a way I'm used to with previous MMO games I've played. Pressing F to get all the goodies is a great idea but not one I'm willing to risk not playing atall in order to get lol. Other fixes - I either hadn't noticed they needed fixing or they are so minor they aren't impacting on my game.
Now, if say they had added more companion banters, dialogues and interactions or quest triggers and the likes, I'd have been over this patch like a rash and seriously chomping at the bit to be confident in installing it but it doesn't seem to include anything like that this time around so I'm opting to pass for the moment.

You should never not patch your game, as a general rule. There's always ciritical fixes in a patch, even if we don't see everything it does. This last one fixed a lot of performance issues and adressed a bunch of little broken coding things, and the hotfix did away with the shiny hair bug, so there's no reason not to patch.
I was pretty lukewarm on Cullen prior to the game. Kudos to Bioware for making him a little more than I expected (and I may even create a PC for a romance because I've heard nothing but good things.)
I like having him as an advisor, because he can certainly cut through the crap!

I've had no real problems with it. One or two bizarre CTDs, but I had that in the unpatched game as well and tbh, 3 or so crashes in over 160 hours (1st and current pt) doesn't strike me as that overly problematic or buggy from most games?

lol you probably got the same Divine I did on my first playthrough.
Spoiler
I aggressively campaigned for Cassandra, but probably messed something up by being too nice to Leliana, ending up stuck with Vivienne. On subsequent playthroughs I made sure to tell Leliana "you'd make a terrible Divine" so there'd be no shadow of doubt that I don't want her there, despite my siding with Celene, so the game wouldn't get mixed signals and ninja Vivienne on me.
