Weeellll, I don't think you can say this definitely if patching your game is known to introduce new, not-yet-constrained variables that for some have created new problems. If the patch is perfect, then, sure, of course patch and improve your game. But only if it actually improves. A bandaid on top of a bandaid is not confidence inspiring.

 

That being said, I'm frakked anyway. I can't import from the Keep with Origin Offline. Which means I can't start a new PT til I patch anyway. *big annoyed sigh* I guess here goes nothin. 

 

You should probably install the patch anyway, but, in case something like this happens again, you can go online in Origin without installing a required patch. Open Origin, switch to offline mode, start DAI and let the main menu load, alt-tab out of the game, switch Origin to online mode, log in in-game from the main menu.

There are some sure fire ways to avoid the one you absolutely don't want, such as

freeing the mages guarantees you won't get Cass and freely allying with the Templars guarantees you won't get Leliana.

 

The problem is that once you've ruled out the one you don't want, the choice between the one you're aiming for and the ninja Divine gets muddled with other choices that you either don't foresee will have much of an impact (such as being heavily pro or anti-Chantry), or other unrelated choices you may not feel comfortable changing, such as ruler of Orlais. I will not put Gaspard on the throne, no matter what, so that shoots my favorite Divine candidate's chances at the knees, and I have to carefully navigate around the rest of smaller choices to make sure they weight out in her favor and don't accidentally tip the scales too much to the ninja's side.

 

This is worst than min/maxing the outcome of the Landsmeet.

Well, and I guess another consideration is whether I can promote Barris if the Templars are conscripted. I don't want to put Gaspard on the throne either, but I think there might be ways to make him less aggressive toward Ferelden. I just don't know what that way is.

 

And yes, this is all incredibly confusing. I like the way this plays out in that every dialogue option you choose makes a difference, but at the same time it feels like there should be a point where the Inquisitor's choice outweighs everything else you've said.

Well, I have head-cannoned her father as being a bit of a soft touch when it comes to his only daughter as to why she has been able to get away with toeing the line thus far. I do have a work around for her being the heir but I still don't know which way I am going to go with it. Her mother is totally going to suggest Sebastian as the perfect match now that she is in a more prominent position (when she becomes quizzy, that is).

Wouldn't be a problem for me if I was playing a Trev; she'd have been dodging the Chantry life for years, so Sebastian would be the last person she'd be interested in, especially since he might buy into the Herald of Andraste thing way too far. I do need to find videos of early conversations about her family with a Trev mage, though, so I can decide if I'm jettisoning the Ryumka PT or not. It sounds like most of the conversation about background tends to be with Josie?

you can still promote him with the Templars disbanded, but he's only promoted to captain or commander of the few men you conscripted. To promote him to Knight-Commander of the remaining Templars in Ferelden, you need to freely ally with them.

and it sounds like she's the ninja divine if you don't pick clearly between the other two? To my mind, having a mage as Divine and allowing only the most ambitious mages increased freedom sounds like a step toward Tevinter (ymmv of course.) I like Cass over Leliana most of the time because I think moderate reform has the best chance of succeeding. Lel might be pushing so far, so fast that extremists might seize control and mages and elves end up worse off than before. Besides, I rather like the idea of Cass as Divine, cutting through the bulls**t.

Mother Giselle runs around Skyhold eavesdropping on the Inquisitor's private conversations, then writes a note to the Chantry about whether the Inquisitor seems to favor going back to the old system, reforming the old system, or scrapping the old system to start fresh.  =P

When I heard I could choose, she was my first choice. She was much closer to being a priest than the others, IMO. Closer with Justinia and could continue her reforms (I'm a big Justinia fan). But then, she started talking about killing everyone who didn't agree with her, or otherwise forcing people to think her way. Now I think she may be the scariest choice. Toss up with Vivienne.

I don't ever want Leliana as Divine in my games, because she completely does away with the Circle system and forces the world to simply deal with fully liberated mages on a whim, and this universe has shown me nothing to convince me that mages going completely unchecked will not end in all of Thedas becoming a bloody magocracy like Tevinter. The mages need at least formal education in their talents, and some form of self-policing. Leliana's free-for-all world is a recipe for disaster.

 

I don't really want Vivienne as Divine either (though I don't revile her ending as much as Leliana's), because Vivi gives the mages more freedom, but doesn't adress the issues with Templars and Seekers, which is the stuff I particularly care about. My endgoal is clearing up the ranks of Templars and Seekers of corruption and reforming the Order back into what it was originally built to be - to protect innocent citizens from malicious mages, to protect innocent mages from angry mobs, and to help the not so powerful mages from hurting themselves and others.

 

So Cassandra is my ideal Divine because she mantains the structure of the Circles as formal places of education, gives mages more freedom and rights allowing them to teach and police themselves, but also invests in reforming the Templars and Seekers so they can again work with the mages, not against them. Both sides come out better, without sacrificing either mages, Templars or civilians in an unstable scenario, tense and ripe for revolt again, as Leliana's and Vivienne's endings imply. Mages and Templars working together for peace is the perfect endgame for me.

I haven't taken this path to test it myself, but I've read conflicting reports of it. Some people say they could still do it only he didn't get the full title, some people say they never got the option even after completing his war table quest chain... maybe the Barris thread has more concrete deets on this one.

I started freaking out when Leliana began going on about killing people in my first playthrough. She ended up as Divine, too, so that was a bit scary. I made some different choices this time around, though, so she's not scary anymore. Phew! Gonna go with Nice!Leliana as Divine this time.

I got Cassandra on my first playthrough and everyone who was present made funny comments on her being divine, but some characters simply weren't there, which was a glitch. No Cullen to talk to . Perhaps Vivienne not being there was a glitch for you? FYI, I was able to reload to my celebration save and everyone seemed to be there after the party that time .

I can imagine her pretending to pray and look at the sky to avoid getting caught eavesdropping.
