LOL! Well, I must say... I'm not nearly that clever. I stole the notion from meanieweenie who first used that gif for a similar discussion we had a year or two ago. If she ever comes back to us, she would be proud.

I see it as curiosity, too, particularly if he isn't sure what the HoF thinks about him being such a d!ck to her during Broken Circle.

 

As Lola said, the fact that Brianne specifically threw "pining" in there makes it super creepy. Like, hairbrushing before his  Amell/Surana shrine, creepy.

But she said it's open to interpretation, no? And plus, he doesn't even mention it if you are romancing him so...

Yeah, my interpretation is that pining for ten years is creepy. [And so I choose to interpret his comment as not-pining.]

To me, it's definitely sad and a bit disturbing that he can't get over her after all this time if he's not romanced, but I don't think it's unreasonable. She's probably the one person he imagined he could spend the rest of his life with had fate not made her a mage, and after all the suffering he's been through he's finally at a point in his life where he could actually be with her since he's not a Templar anymore. He's older now, early to mid thirties, an age range in which I feel like most people would begin to think of settling down. He's clearly tired of the strictly controlled life he's led, and without the Quizzy he probably holds on to that dream he once had because it reminds him of what could have been. With your Quizzy in the picture, he learns to stop regretting the past and to move forward. A new life, a new person to love, a fresh start. Again why I'm never not romancing him in any playthrough of Inquisition, ever. sob

It really seems to me like it was important for her to leave that stuff to mean whatever the player wants it to mean, and for that she has my eternal gratitude. There's nothing in what he says to contradict someone's headcanon that he's totally over her romantically and just still feels awkward about being a jerk in Broken Circle OR to contradict someone else's headcanon that he and Amell / Surana will get together in the playthroughs where the Inquisitor romances someone else. And most importantly, I don't think there's anything at all he says in a romance playthrough that would weird me out if someone I was dating in real life said it about an ex or former crush.

Oh, it is really funny and sad to picture (What with the inevitable grossness of the sobing, and weird petting he would do to the shrine).  It makes me laugh too. ^.^

It really seems to me like it was important for her to leave that stuff to mean whatever the player wants it to mean, and for that she has my eternal gratitude. Speaking of which, I'm not sure if it's the same person but I've had the pleasure of speaking with someone on Tumblr who's apparently worked with Brianne as a Cinematic Designer for Cullen. I was spazzing about how Brianne saw my WIP sketch, and someone tagged her in my Tumblr post (because I was THAT embarassingly sappy LOL) and we chatted for a bit. Her Tumblr handle is quilari She's REALLY nice! I think she's only recently made her blog but you can see her comments under a few posts about being his designer. I wasn't sure if it was right for me to publicize her Tumblr but I figure she really deserves some love from all of Cullen's fans for her phenomenal role in bringing him to life.

Can I ask what SweetFX preset you are using as well as your NVIDIA settings? I have my NVIDIA control panel set up to "enhance game settings" with 4x supersampling but it doesn't seem to do anything. 

 

I've never used SweetFX before but it seems really easy so I will give it a shot.

You can probably make these changes in the NVIDIA Control Panel, but here are the changes I made in NVIDIA Inspector:

Anisotropic filtering mode: User-defined/Off

Anisotropic filtering setting: 16x

Ambient Occlusion setting: High quality

 

The SweetFX version I'm using is in post #91 here. Just extract all the files located inside the ZIP's Bf4 SweetFX + EFX folder to wherever your DragonAgeInquisition.exe is (for me, that's inside K:\Electronic Arts\Dragon Age Inquisition). Make sure that any overlays/OSDs (Origin, FRAPS, MSI Afterburner, etc) are disabled when playing the game, and fullscreen might also be required. I modified the SweetFX settings that came with the download I linked. The only options I have enabled are LumaSharpen, Gaussian, Vibrance, and Curves, so here are my settings (located in SweetFX_settings.txt) for those:

This SweetFX version also has its own FPS counter that shows up every time the game starts, but you can just press the Insert key to turn it off.

 

You'll also get SweetFX and eFX both taking screenshots in addition to the game itself when you press your PrintScreen key. Since I was just interested in the SweetFX screenshots, as they seem to be taken the fastest while also showing all the SweetFX changes, I edited the SweetFX_settings.txt file and changed this:

So, I'm now using the + key on my numpad to take screenshots. Well I like that it's only when he's not romanced, which makes him seem less douchey than if he were to be in a romance and still be thinking about another woman. But you know how I feel about it already. I prefer Cousland w Alistair and to head cannon Amell w Cullen. So you all know about how I feel about him thinking and asking about her even if it is 10 years later. *wistful sigh*

I don't see it as "pining" either. But I also see it as more than just curiousity. I see it as a "what could have been" type of mentality. I'll always love my Cullen and Amell.

Really looking at it. I'm playing this game the same way I played DA:O. My Mage is reserved for Cullen. My Elf for Solas. M Inquis for Dorian. And I'm not sure who Id want to use my quanri for yet. Need to romance Iron Bull just bc I'm curious. And obviously Blackwall has to be in there.

But all my PCs are one relationship type of peeps so oh the struggles!

BTW, has anyone seen a Queen Cousland political marriage with a Zevran lover PT? Just wondering how they handled that one?

I'm curious about it too. I have both a Queen Cousland and a King Cousland with Zevran as lover, but it will take me a long while to get to them. But I expect there will be nothing about it, since not even mistress to an unmarried Alistair, the least scandalous option, got a mention.
