See I actually liked this game over both DA:O and DA:2. I missed having a voiced protagonist in DA:O and the combat was painfully boring for me. Plus...the deep roads and the fade = horrible (thank goodness for the skip the fade mod!). I loved Alistair...he will always be my #3 Bioware romance. With DA:2, the combat was more interesting to me, but the companions weren't as memorable. With DA:I, I loved the companions, combat, and open world dynamic. I play MMO's so I guess maybe that's why I'm partial to this game? Also...the Skyrim element is nice. To me, the characters seem more "alive" and animated in this game as well.

Whole-heartedly agree. I searched everywhere for a deep roads skip mod. Lol there was nothing.

I just connected with the companions in DA:O the most which is probably the biggest reason DAI is so high on my list now. I got to see Alistair and Leliana and Morrigan. You got those few war table quests w Zevran and you heard from your DAO protagonist. So it was kinda like bringing the gang back together for me.

Of course in DA2 you have Alistair cameo and there's Cullen. And that short quest w Zevran. But it doesn't feel like it's really the same game to me. There was always a disconnect. And I think it's bc I missed seeing so much of my original companions. They're what made me fall in love w the game in the first place, so they'll always be number one to me.

Any future DA game that lets me go back to them will probably rate high on my list too. Lol.

I am so jealous of the graphics quality some of you have. I think I may need to talk to my daughter about helping upgrade my card next summer. And maybe a setup for dual monitors...  :P

I work on dual-monitors every day and it's essential...I just can't imagine gaming on two monitors :/

The problem with this game is that in order to push the graphics you really need to start getting into the realm of custom builds and that's $$$. I was just lucky that I had a new rig built less than a year ago.

Not sure if it would help but here are my system specs:

Intel i7 4820k @ 3.70GHz w/ Corsair H60 enclosed liquid cooler

16.0GB RAM

NVIDIA GTX 780 ti Superclocked GPU w/ ACX Cooler

In Jan 2014 my system cost me almost $2,000 to put together...

Dual monitors ... eh, my husband has a dual monitor set-up on his PC, and we have them at work, but I can't imagine gaming with one. I've tried using my husband's dual monitor system when my own is one the fritz and I find it disorienting.

The more I chew on it Lola, the more I'm actually thinking that they got a bit too "big for their britches", planning so much and wanting to throw so much content that there was no way in hell they could have possibly finished it all, even with the grace period and extension given by EA.

And to be fair, in my opinion, the content that we do have (when it's firing correctly) is spectacular. I think it is a very fair assumption to say that there is more conent in DAI than DA2. But in some ways, there's the sense that there should have been more than what we were given in the final product. In some ways, to me, that's the writing department's fault, for not really closing off storylines as neatly as they should have and such so that we could get a sense of finality instead of this feeling of wanting more.

I think the problem (for me) lies in the fact that a lot of the environments don't really tie into the main story at all, and the quests within them (Hinterlands aside) often don't tie into it either. I think maybe if they'd removed some of the pointless environments (do we really need 3 desert areas?) And made Val Royeaux a large city area full of activities with the various richer poorer quarters and the Grand Cathedral (as described in the novels) then that would've been more preferable to me.

I remember Cameron Lee and the others saying that the quests within all the environments would be important/engaging and not pointless fetch quests but it seems that they either ran out of time/money/ideas to fill the environments up with. Speaking of which:

We got something like this, less detailed and angsty though, in the Templar quest.

Spoiler

Wow, really? When I did the pro-templar quest and entered The Fade, the advisors said nothing to me from their cages! I had wondered if my game was glitching out. Guess it was. Not surprising, considering some of the other glitches I've encountered:

I think it's both lack of story tie in and too many big areas.  I think when they went open world they focused on whether they could create more space instead of whether they should. I would gladly trade galloping over empty sand for extra lines of companion interaction or seeing one of the war table operations live in the "pixels". They made a very pretty, very very big world that didn't have as much story attached to it, per square area, as it were. So if you want to finish every fetch and carry quest, as I tried, you end up going days without Bull saying more than "Nice talking with you, boss." Or spending an hour trying to climb up a mountain to get a frakking shard, instead of moving on to the "urgency" of the Arbor Wilds. I was at least two levels higher than the recommended max level by then.

[So I think the solution is *either* less empty space, or more story to fill the empty space.]

I'm looking forward to skipping all the side quests this time and trying to focus on the main storyline. And my Solasmance. :D *wistful sight*

I believe this to be Skyrim's influence. I remember reading several articles back in the early stages of development that said the developers took a long hard look at Skyrim's style for this game. If you've ever played any Elder Scrolls games, they're just like that...tons of open-world quests that have no bearing on the main plot. And with Skyrim, your companions are pretty much glorified pack mules that mumble a few words here and there. Marriage in the game just means you get some moolah and a pie each day and that's it. Mods have helped somewhat, but that's still pretty much what you get.

I guess that all depends on what you like. I actually love love love the open world aspect of the game. I remember the first time I went to the Western Approach and was riding my horse over the dunes and I was like "Wow, they totally got horses down right in this game." Now if only your companions could ride with you so you could get party banter...

It seems like they maybe tried to do too much and ended up with quite a bit less than they intended.

I just wish they'd focus on what they do best. Don't get me wrong, the environments are stunning but their talent lies in their character driven storylines and in depth cast of followers.

And that's the first thing I thought when I started playing. Skyrim. But the Giants on DAI aren't nearly as intimidating as the Giants on Skyrim.

Yeah, the Skyrim influence is clear. And, admittedly,  their first attempt at open world was pretty nice. I just think their strength is in the story, which was great, but it didn't keep pace with emptiness. I mean, sure, I loved galloping the first time too. Then I had to run across the whole frikkin desert three times to find the final tomb entrance. It gave me BG flashbacks of needing to remove all the black space from the map... but those are not the positive kind of BG flashbacks! LOL
