This isn't news at all, Mike said it openly in the romance announcement thread that they race and gender gated Cullen because they couldn't make animations for all races and genders for the extension romances. I don't get how any of this is surprising, we've know this was a technical limitation for months.

Ah, Teagan... sometimes he gets so busy doing the "Arl of Redcliffe Shuffle" that he loses entire days! It was a week before he realised that the Mage Rebellion had set up shop in Redcliffe and a fortnight before he noticed he was outside the gates, next to a hat overflowing with loose change...
Really good of her to point out that there were no narrative or political reasons for it. From reading quilari's tumblr it's clear she worked really hard and for really long hours getting Cullen's scenes right.
I sort of wish they'd admitted to this earlier though, because there is a lot of drama about this going around on Tumblr. Would have saved people some heartache.

I feel like I've entered this weird twilight zone where something the devs openly admitted like half a year ago is being treated like a huge controversial scandal of terrible secrets and lies and everyone's world is falling apart, and I'm just like... okay but we already knew this????
Anyway.... it is what it is. If mods happen they'll happen, if they don't, they don't. Always good to keep in mind that the devs had to make do with they had given the circumstances. The easiest, fastest, cheapest road would have been to shrug it off and simply not make Cullen romanceable at all, but they chose to put an extra mile into it. Pity it couldn't have been an extra two miles, but the alternative would have been much worse.

I'm glad that hard working modders will be able to complete this. I believe it'll happen. Mostly I'm glad that DA:I didn't feel as incomplete as 2 did, even though they couldn't pull off 100% of what they wanted to initially. Personally, I think this means great things for the longevity of the game, like with Origins.
This does seem to confirm Greg Ellis wasn't leading us on about the raunchy dialogue. It's just part of the cut content.

I think I find angry!Cullen throwing objects hotter than usually smooth lion roleplay. In that scene, where he throws bottle into the door as Quizzy walks in and then starts to apologize..I liked it even more than chess scene/date by lake, what the hell

As for the Bi Cullen thing, I guess I'm not fussed either way but it's easy for me to be like that because I can romance him.
Sometimes I just wonder if this actually creates more harm than good for those who atm cannot romance him... if they do bring out a DLC with this included, it should definitely be free. I'm not one to enjoy changing sexual preferences if there is a reason behind it like story, but for just ran out of time?

Still my favorite game of the series. Repeatable environment maps aside, 2 had the strongest writing of all three games, and I've yet to see BW top that in the DA universe. Let's see how it goes for DA4.

Holy crap. That might explain a lot about why Cullen is gated to humans and elves as well. Rejoice, those of you who wanted to romance Cullen a certain way but couldn't! wooOOooo
I'd originally heard "story reasons" for the race gating, but it's been pretty clear that wasn't it. Just keep in mind that it's bad enough having favorite race/gender combinations left with only very dysfunctional LI choices without having people virtually gloating about how wonderful it is that you've been excluded from the more mainstream ones. I came very close to quitting the thread earlier because the conversation was so far from the sensitivity I've usually seen.

Can't wait until they find that dialogue then!
I remember reading that opening post introducing Cullen and Solas as gated romances, and while I vaguely recall something about time constraints I feel like it wasn't very specific what they were referring to. That, or I might have assumed the time constraints were in reference to the race gating only, though logically it refers to gender gating as well.
Either way, while I personally interpret Cullen as straight based on his crush on only the female mage warden I don't see any other narrative reason for Cullen to be totally straight and I'm happy that more people can be comfortable with the idea of romancing him as something other than female now. We are all playing in our own personal alternate universes and there's no reason for anyone to not feel comfortable imagining they can live happily ever after with their favorite characters in their own worlds if there's nothing in the dialogue to really indicate it can't happen.
