I'm of the mind they would have either their sexuality in common or their writer. But if it is their sexuality that's the same, I'm worried that that would only point to them both being straight.

I see where you're coming from but so much of the commentary we have from Bioware shows an awareness and sensitivity to the diverse nature of their audience that I just don't see them going down the straight only path for their first big LI reveal. It just seems. I don't know -out of character for them to me.

No, I'm pretty sure some form of chastity vow does exist in the Chantry, it's just not everyone who does it. In DAO, Leliana states a few times - in convo and in banter - that she took no vows of chastity because she was only a Laysister... "A... Guest... Of the chantry?" As Sten surmised. so I do think Sebastian had a honest-to-goodness vow of chastity taken when he chose to become a bono fide Brother of the Chantry. Just my two cents in the matter!

Yes, there are vows of chastity, and templars can and do take them. Remember that one templar from A Broken Circle? With the Desire Demon? He'd taken a vow of chastity and was miserable. Not all templars have to take it, though, according to Word of Gaider. So, I think Sebastian definitely had taken a vow of chastity.

 

Oh, all this talk of Sebastian and chastity just makes me sad.

Um, wait, now that I'm rereading that...

 

In the first sentence he talks about regretting not having that kind of bromance. In the second sentence, he's talking about Varric having the "same kind of depth" as a romance, despite not being one.

 

I think... I think Varric just got confirmed not a romance?  Unless that was just a poorly constructed sentence. Someone tweet for clarification.
