Full beard appreciated but not needed; hint of scruff is just as nice :D

Ya know, it's kinda weird, how when I was in my 20's I liked clean-shaven men. Now in my 30's...must have some amount of scruff. It's crazy how our tastes change with age!

Gah, everyone in this place has seen the freaking hobbit but me.

I haven't yet! I've just read the books so all these spoilers haven't been a surprise...

I'm quite literally all about his Guy of Gisborne, although I do love him in pretty much anything. Unlike Johnny Depp, who I only love as Jack Sparrow.

I wouldn't touch Johnny Depp with a 10ft pole...unless he's dressed like Jack Sparrow...  :P

Oh my god! Do you want to go together? I have zero friends that would be interested. As to why I also haven't seen it yet.  ^_^

Edit: We could like, Skype each other in our respective theaters.  :P

YES LET'S DO THIS, I'm sure the other audience members will not mind our bright screens

Yeah I asked my friend yesterday and she said, "Y'all dragged me to the first two movies; all they do is walk around a lot; it's so boring!" I very nearly terminated our friendship.

I'd go with you if you weren't in the wrong hemisphere  I saw the first Hobbit movie three times in the cinema, once with my partner, once with my friends, and once with my dad & sister  any excuse!

I never really got the appeal of Johnny Depp. He's always looked too dirty, as in doesn't bathe, for me.

I think the only time I was kinda into him was in Chocolat... he was a bit more manly than usual there.

People keep talking about that and I don't see it...

But I agree about the "women as subplots" thing! At least Eowyn was changed so that she goes into battle to KICK ARSE ... unlike the books.

As to what and why Tolkien wrote his female characters ... he had to establish an audience for his books. People can only go so far outside their perceived cultural norms in their ability to suspend their disbelief. Tolkien was already a major revolution in the way he broke ground with genre. Expecting him to transgress too far with culture too might have taken LOTR from something we all know and love to obscure books no one has ever read because no one read them to begin with.

Sure, he's all over Twitter, does YouTube 'n' stuff. He's not as model perfect as Richard Armitage, but there's certainly a passing resemblance.

They can shut their wh0re mouths! Or, that's what I always say........... the people in the audience, not your friends.

We would be the lamest people ever. It would be glorious!

I didn't really see "romantic" as much as "close friends". Of course I'm sure those lines are very easy to blur and I may've been more interested in

ninetozero: I like that theory. It reminded me of the meaning of the Roman emperor's index. When pointed upwards, it was an order to spare someone's life. When pointed downwards, it ordered their execution.

I've read that it was actually originally the other way around - thumbs up to signal the victorious gladiator to proceed with the execution, thumbs down to tell him to stop.

No one's expecting that; he was a product of his times, and a very conservative and stayed product at that.

I got evils during The Hobbit after accidentally declaring louder than intended that the dude in front had a fat head so I couldn't see the screen, LOL!
