Yes and no. If I'm writing a fantasy about medieval cultures, there are very appropriate reasons for women to stay in the home rather than on the battlefield. It isn't so much a matter of whether or not they can, but whether or not it's good for a survival level society to allow them to take those roles which is generally reflected in the culture and its norms.
We live at a time when we don't have to worry about the survival of our society nearly as much, so if women want to go out and risk life and limb, it's not a big deal. So we can afford to be far more egalitarian.
But in a society that can't risk falling below the reproductive threshold, the loss of one woman is far more damaging than the loss of one man. So women wind up being kept away from things that risk life and limb and get put into nurturing roles where they have and raise children. Unfortunately, rather than women being treasured, it can just as easily wind up with them being traded.

I got evils during The Hobbit after accidentally declaring louder than intended that the dude in front had a fat head so I couldn't see the screen, LOL!
Lol, way funnier because I can hear your voice in my head yelling that out.

I used to adore Johnny Depp, but now... I dunno, he's just a bit overrated. He's aging well though!

*sighs* Lessa and I grew up together. Definitely
WB have got the rights to make a movie of Dragonriders of Pern. Screenwriter was announced last month. I'm equal parts excited, and terrified they'll ruin it.

I think that Cullen needs to be someone with some weathering to his face. Not one of the smooth faced crowd. So he needs to be, not old, but old enough to have some living there.
Hemsworth is getting close.

Maker, this thread is all over the place with the off-topic right now... sorry, would have saved the serious Cullen post for another time if I'd seen it.
Anyway...
Well, the Judex condex entry does mention that the flaming sword imagery was already in use before the time of Andraste. Solas might be using imagery related to old symbolism among ancient Tevinters or even ancient elves. There are even theories that Andraste was possibly one of the old elven gods going on out there at this point, after the reveals of this game.
So sorry...I think this diversion was my fault :-/ I want to read more into this theory!

Because I've helped derail the thread into a discussion of several rather yummy men and book franchises, who would you have play DAI Cullen in a movie?
Hm, I suggested Michael Fassbender the other night.

Quite a few here thought he might fit the bill.
