I was ridiculously excited when the messenger actually appeared last night:

Only her second or third appearance in this (so far) 124 hour playthrough. Ugh, need more messenger banter.

Yeah, I've only gotten two...Josie wanting to get Cullen nice clothes and the "butter and sugar" one. I've never seen the messenger in Cullen's office...just some elven guy that always walks away when I enter the room. 

 

HOWEVER...I lol'd last night when for ha-ha's I had my Qunari quizzy kiss Blackwall twice and after the 2nd time he was like "Evidently the beard doesn't bother you as much as I'd feared..."

Ah the personal quest bug. Here is something that may help that I've discovered through personal experience.

 

Once you gain Skyhold DON'T talk to Varric on the battlements right away. Doing this too soon kills Dorian's personal quest among other things.

 

Dorian is meant to walk past when talking to Cassandra about her naughty book but if you've talked to Varric about you know who then Dorian never appears. Cole is also affected as well.

Something I found interesting was that I would expect that to be the dominant choice... but the reactions of everyone around Skyhold afterward really seemed incommensurate with how much they knew/cared about Stroud.

 

Eh? No one back at Skyhold ever said a thing about it in my playthrough!

Let's not even bring up the Ask/Kaidan thing. I HATED that decision. I actually ran that mission through a second time without either of them in my team hoping that it would influence who I had to leave behind. I tried to ax Liara's blue butt, and I sat there is shock when I found out I would actually have to sacrifice someone I liked and wanted to keep on my ship.

 

As far as the Hawke/Stroud dilemma, the only tough choice is when I run it with a Peri Hawke world state. I could leave her there and see her staying there as she was an Anders romance who executed him. But I happen to like Varric a little too much to let it happen, at least in the first play through.

I feel kind of cheated with the abyss choices. I have Alistair as the King (Warden Queen). I didn't play DA 2 so it comes down to Hawke and Stroud for me which are complete nobodies.

I never had this problem on my pc...I always talk to Varric right away. I did notice that Cass's book cutscene won't trigger unless you have high enough approval with her.

I love Dorian's comment about the book, too. That's pretty much how I feel about those cheap romance books, but nothing burns an afternoon quicker. So, guilty pleasure ...

What are we doing wrong? I visit everyone after doing any little thing at all, but she's hardly ever there, and I've only seen her talking to Josephine and Cullen. I've had an easier time finding that Quizquisition guy of all people. 

 

I did get a male messenger talking to Leliana the other night. Something about Cullen telling Leliana that he wouldn't be attending something that Josephine had planned, and Leliana saying he had to because she didn't want Josephine's feelings to be hurt.

Yeah, that was the first time I'd seen a messenger talking to Leliana. I get a reasonable amount of party banter out in the world as well, though I can't seem to get Dorian and Iron Bull to acknowledge each other. Don't know what the problem is.
