Ooh. I just played chess with Cullen and chose the 'let him win' option. The Inquisitor said 'Looks like luck favored you today' and he just gave her a look. A shrewd and knowing look. I think he knows... She's not in a romance with him by the way. It's an interesting turn of events.

Lol, I like the one where you cheat because it makes my quizzy look like a complete jackass. ![]()
But yes, it is like he already he knows what is to come with that one, doesn't it? Sneaky bugger
Yeah... honestly... the chess scene. Yet another scene that annoyed me.
Where the hell did a Dalish elf learn to play chess?!

lol I laughed out loud at that one.

Though not Dalish, Solas and Bull's chess playing banter is positively brilliant
"Lie with Me." I've only watched 15 minutes. I'll wait 'til the morning when I've got some wood.
Ew.
I always just let him kill the guy, lol.
Heh, I could write a 371 pages long manifesto on why my ideal/canon DAO playthrough ends with Alistair and Anora married, Loghain conscripted, and my Alistair-romancing Cousland sacrificing herself, but I'm sure no one cares. ;P
I did very much enjoy the repercussions these choices had in Inquisition, specially in regards to Loghain (he got the perfect ending for his character arc -from Stolen Throne to Inquisition- right there), even if in my canon playthrough I don't actually get to see the royal couple. It was enough to see their little cameo on YouTube and grant that this is how their future turned out (and it is exactly as I'd wished), though, even if I unfortunately don't have it onscreen in my game. Despite my disappointment that dead Wardens didn't get any unique content (not even the griffon memorial in Redcliffe that I originally thought was only for ultimate sacrifice Wardens), the rest of Landsmeet outcomes in my game turned even better than expected.
The romance can't start until after the chess scene, tho. I think letting him win is still kind of a provocative thing to do, even without choosing the heart, because he knows what you did.Ooh. Crud I'm at the top again!
Wow Alistair and Cullen together, that's a lot of handsome.
I had one Warden that picked Loghain. He was neutral with Alistair and when Al started yelling at the Landsmeet, he thought, "Yeah you got to go now." He let Anora execute Al and married Anora. He was a bit of a hard ass. Not evil just a get it done kind of Warden.
I don't know that it has to necessarily be a shem game, is it? Maybe it's just something that everyone in Thedas knows...? Also, doesn't her clan have more interaction with humans than the norm?Yeah... honestly... the chess scene. Yet another scene that annoyed me.

If you choose the flirt and get the "So it seems" response with wistful grin from him I took that to mean "luck was on his side" in you slipping up and making it obvious that you're into him...so it's a win-win for him.
Oh geez, let me see...

Ok we're either long lost twins or soulmates, pick your poison.
eta: and since the thread was on the subject of Alistair feels earlier, let's throw in that heart-wrenching betrayed face Alistair makes when you choose Loghain over him. Just for, you know, the ouch.

Oh man, we have such similar playthroughs. Is that even the modded Loghain face texture? ![]()
And I won't lie, I really just use Alistair for sex now. Well, not now, because that's what Cullen is for, but when I play Origins.

The face edit is actually just my own tweak, I just removed Loghain's 300 year old decrepit overlay texture. He looks pretty rad without the faces of meth texture they put on him to shorthand the mustache-twirling cartoon villain look.
And, aaw poor Alistair, don't be mean to him. I mean, I'm probably the meanest of all since I betrayed him then killed off his first true love, but... still! ![]()

*grumpy shrug* I guess. Personally I associate chess with leisure and wealth. It's possible the clan acquired a board and the hunters passed the time with it.
But to me it's yet another example of how the game was originally made for human PCs and the transition to different races was poor.

Yeah, one of my questions, though it may just be a fairly universal game (it's pretty portable, at least). I have one Dalish it makes sense for, but I can't even imagine where my mage or warrior would have learned it if it's a human thing in Thedas.

Chess is also great for developing strategic and tactical thinking (I kind of envision Cullen using it to take the measure of people's abilities and decision making).

They probably have a game similar with a different name or something... that works as a head canon, LOL!
I'm not even quite convinced it's proper chess. The board and pieces are a little different. The game guide calls it chess... But I'm not sure I recall the word in game.
Oh yeah, but I mean the parallel is there. It's a board game... definitely associated with leisure, and that's associated with wealth. It would be different if they were playing a card game or something simple that didn't require a lot of pieces. But this is a game that took some time and money to construct.
I never had this problem on my pc...I always talk to Varric right away. I did notice that Cass's book cutscene won't trigger unless you have high enough approval with her.
Interesting. What platform are you playing DA:I on? I'm on Xbox 360 (don't laugh) ![]()
I'm wundering if it could be a platform only bug. Yeah for some of the conpaion stuff you have to have high enough approval for it to happen. I can general keep most of the conpaions on good terms but madam stuck up is another matter. Strangle my mage is on good terms with her, my warrior not so much.

Yeap. Also, since some of us agreed that Cullen's personality type is something along the lines of ISTJ (Inspector), I looked into it a bit further and found this site: http://www.truity.co...ality-type/ISTJ
All of the descriptions fit Cullen to a T. I wouldn't be surprised if Brianne came upon a site like this while fleshing out his character because everything is just so Cullen.

Sadly enough, it looks like Varric has good reason to remind Cullen to watch his health, because apparently ISTJs are more likely than other types to suffer from high blood pressure, heart problems, and chronic pain. I imagine maybe it's stress related due to holding themselves to such high standards? I am so glad Varric is around and tries to involve Cullen in relaxing activities, lmao. Varric is the best.
