The Dalish didn't invent Chess?!
Seriously though, I wouldn't be surprised if it was a game that was co-opted from something Dalish originally.

Oh yeah, but I mean the parallel is there. It's a board game... definitely associated with leisure, and that's associated with wealth. It would be different if they were playing a card game or something simple that didn't require a lot of pieces. But this is a game that took some time and money to construct.
Could be. I was hoping we'd find out it was Archon or something we've heard of. But then, Archon was something the over educated Pig Farmer played with the Marquis of Serault. ![]()

Given that Solas can play it quite well, I think that "chess" game might very well have been an elven thing once upon a time.
Also a good point.

Yes, but the point is:
That said, Bull plays it with qunari piece names so it's clearly an incredibly widespread game.

The face edit is actually just my own tweak, I just removed Loghain's 300 year old decrepit overlay texture. He looks pretty rad without the faces of meth texture they put on him to shorthand the mustache-twirling cartoon villain look.
And, aaw poor Alistair, don't be mean to him. I mean, I'm probably the meanest of all since I betrayed him then killed off his first true love, but... still!
Poor Loghain and his meth face. Reminded me of Eamon and his homeless crack addict beard.
And I was hardly mean to Alistair. He got sex and then got to be king. ![]()

I've come to assume that a lot of the stuff humans attribute to themselves originally came from the elves, whether it be something as simple as Thedas' version of chess or magic like the KE specialization. Since finding out the truth behind the vallaslin I've started to wonder if Danarius knew the truth and that's what Fenris' lyrium tattoos are based off.

Honestly, I think that's the least of Fenris' concerns right now since we found out that lyrium

I'm on 360 as well. I got the quest not long after getting Skyhold, so it might be triggered by events?Interesting. What platform are you playing DA:I on? I'm on Xbox 360 (don't laugh)
I'm wundering if it could be a platform only bug. Yeah for some of the conpaion stuff you have to have high enough approval for it to happen. I can general keep most of the conpaions on good terms but madam stuck up is another matter. Strangle my mage is on good terms with her, my warrior not so much.

I just ran into Cullen's office and the messenger was there again with some more banter (the Iron Bull and shields one). She's chatty all of a sudden. I quick saved while she was speaking and triggered a scene with Cullen when she was done, then reloaded the quick save only to have yet another banter with the messenger firing (Cole and the Uldred note) once the save loaded. This same banter kept firing every time I reloaded the quick save, so I made another save while she was speaking about the note. I loaded that save, and another different banter was firing upon loading ("They didn't hang you there. You can walk away."). I saved while that banter was still going on, and yet another different banter fired after I loaded that save ("The center never changed, kept safe like a coin in your pocket."). Saved, loaded, new banter (Cullen wants to speak with Cole). Saved, loaded, new banter ("It's from your sister." "Which one?").I wonder how many banters I can cycle through with this method.
Did you do anything special to start triggering? I want to hear these in my game and not just on youtube!

True, it's just something that came to mind when I was doing my solasmance playthrough that adds an extra level of sadness to it. I really hope we get a DLC that gives some more background on Lyrium and whatever the hell it actually is.

No.
I just loaded an old save in Skyhold (outside the War Room) from right after the temple, ran to Cullen's office to trigger the prayer scene, and the messenger was there. She wasn't there when I went in to trigger the prayer scene for the very first time during that playthrough, though.
She only had one more banter ("Holding, Ser." "Of course.") after my post. Going to see if I can do this with other messengers now. If I can get any more to show up. ![]()

Waaaaait. This is only banter I haven't got with Cullen yet, and this one got me curious. Does that mean he has more than two siblings? Mia, the younger brother he practiced chess with, and... another sister? Just how many kids does this family have??? We must know!
