I was wary of it, at first. I went through a ton of reviews and it's gotten high marks again. We'll see. Hate for it to be a $2500 mistake. I needed a laptop though.

I have not. Doesn't seem to be a popular choice in CC for most.

From pages and pages ago, I bought an Alienware 18 in February because I needed a laptop and, after some tweaks, it runs Inquisition beautifully. If I'd had the resources to build one I would have, but I just didn't.

Spoilered for size.

Higher graphics settings along with SweetFX makes is look like I could literally touch the stone walls. This game is so pretty.

True, still lacking when compared with the size of the game though. Is Cullen's romance arc the biggest then?

Considering how long some of us (especially me) are going to play a single PT, the companion and advisor content generally seems skimpy. I'm at 31 hours and just met Dorian yesterday (admittedly several hours of that are due to getting lost a lot; I'm not impressed with the maps in this game at all in terms of usefulness.) I found it weird that I came back from Redcliffe and no one had anything to say about the mages, the Venitori, Dorian, or the two or three new agents I sent back.

Cullen's does seem to be the most substantial to me, and I've watched recordings of all of them now, but I may be considering things as part of the romance that some others may not be.

I guess that's because Cullen was initially a non-romanceable NPC. They already made all the scenes for the "friendship/personal arc" on equal content with other NPCs & companions. Then they add the romance & extra romanced dialogue lines on existing scenes. And well, he gets a lot of stuffs.

Still, this logic has flaws: Solas is also added as extra romance. And he doesn't get that much scene. Cullen also get lots of BAMF time due to main story, him being military advisor and all.

EDIT: and here I was worrying that as "extra" LI, Cullen won't get that many content... :P

About the pacing, actually I just find my balance with all LI & advisors & dragons. Don't do more than one long convo/cutscene everytime I get back to Skyhold. And every dragon must be paced between at least 1 companion/advisor cutscene or I'll be running out of dragon very soon...

Someone told me that if you do his personal quest before starting the relationship there are minor difference about how he refers to you.

Do you mean Perseverance or the Samson one? I waited until after Adamant in my current PT to start the romance (still haven't done Halamshiral), so I didn't start it until after Perseverance.

Yay! All hope is not lost!

haha glad to see someone around here has an alienware. Mine's still not here yet but that definitely eases my lingering fears with dropping the cash on it.

I don't know what GPU and CPU you're getting, but mine don't even meet recommended specs and my game looks like the above. I basically bought the highest-end gaming laptop I could afford at the time.

And I haven't needed to contact customer service *knock on wood* but so far it's been fantastic.

I mean the Perseverance one. Truely, if that's what he said, I find that the romance is much more deeper if you do that after doing the Perseverance quest. That's very meaningful. Having seen him at his bad times & still loving him for all he is

I went the i7 upgraded processor, AMD GPU (which has been ranking better when compared to it's Nvidia comparison) with 4GB dedicated memory....or something like that. 16 GB RAM. Well it's along those lines. I went $500 over my budget. It's a 17 not 18 too.

Yeah, that was kind of how I felt too, even with the weirdness of those other scenes. I will probably continue to wait until after Perseverance to start it. And there's that bit where you're talking to him and telling him that it'll be okay (or whatever it is you say) and you reach out to touch him, and the fact that you're not in a romance yet makes that much more significant and personal.

Wow, that seems to be a wonderful alternative to my current PT (start romance first then Perseverance). I'll do that next PT

This gives the relationship a better development actually: from colleagues (Haven) -> start of trust & appreciation (arrival at Skyhold) -> friendship (Perseverance) -> love (start romance). Personally I find that romances build after friendship is really wonderful.

I completely agree. You're not encouraging him at that point because you've got stars in your eyes but because you trust his decisions. And I think he would find that much more valuable when starting the romance because he knows that you're going in with your eyes wide open. Not that you don't already know to some degree, but Perseverance certainly drives the situation home.

Just be careful with heat. That's one of the biggest reasons why I hate gaming on laptops...heat and not being able to open it up and clean it out.

I have a special "computer blower" that I use to blow all the dust out every once in a while...

MUST TRY THIS NEXT TIME!!!

Oh this will totally work with my dual-dagger Trevelyan! She thinks Cullen is a stick in the mud at Haven so this will help the transition from co-worker to friend to something more!

From what I've read AMD has resolved their heating issues with their mobile GPUs *crosses fingers* Gonna grab a cooling pad too.

I've already fried a hard drive and GPU on another laptop (that was just a noteboook and not made for gaming,so it was my fault)

Well that does inspire fear again. I don't trust myself with opening computers, because knowing me I'd break something. If Acer didn't have lock out MoBo I'd just upgrade my current PC, but it will be nice to not be landlocked for gaming.

I could never game on a laptop..I've tried to use my b/f's and I just can't. My office is nice and comfy for gaming...BUT if I don't want to be "landlocked," I can always game in the living room on my HDTV since my PC's GPU is connected to the surround system receiver via HDMI (my office is in the next room so I was able to run the wire). I can comfortably play any game out there with the wireless xbox controller...Skyrim is the best example that comes to mind.  :D

When I blow out the tower there's really nothing to be super careful about...just blow and don't touch anything, lol.

For the heat problem, I'm going on high graphic on Skyrim & reasonably good graphic on DA:I on Toshiba normal laptop. Highly recommended item: Chill mat with integrated fan. Even the lower spec one are really good at avoiding over heat.

My partner used to open my laptop for frequent cleaning, around once every 6 months & this helps a lot! But then he's the one who is really good at this kind of thing...

Eh, if you've already started the romance options before the conffession and perserverance, when you get to Feeling Better you have the option to tell him you still like him and he does the whole "really inspite of all that stuff?" thing and it's a really sweet moment. Idk, just the order things played out seemed really natural that way. Plus with the long build-up post adamant felt like a bigger payoff and that it made a ton of sense at that point.

I kept the coin.

By this point Cullen is is so deeply in love and protective of (your) Inquisitor he is willing to part with an item that means a lot to him. To Cullen, the coin did work. It kept him safe through all the crap he went through. Thus if Cullen cannot be there to protect the Inquisitor at least Cullen feels safer knowing that which brought him luck is with his girl.

This is a HUGE show of devotion from Cullen to the Inquisitor. Telling Cullen to keep it (to me) would feel far too awkward. I for one saw this gesture as an amazing moment in the relationship.

IMO, I think IF Cullen ever did lose the Inquisitor not only would he blame himself but also it would break him.

The romance is amazing, has some flaws, but still amazing. I LOVE the point in the relationship where it tests you. And depending on how you choose the outlook of the romance changes.

I found the romance far more meaningful by playing a mage, but <shrugs> that is just me.

It's really good in both case.

On my current PT I'm doing the start relationship first then Perseverance. Even in this case the first convo post-Haven & Chess scene already show up how much the relationship build.

What I like about starting the relationship after Perseverance is like what Monica said, starting it after Perseverance basically telling him you love him while already knowing him in his lowest point. You know, and you choose to start it eitherway. If you do the other way round, it's like "You love him, and then you know & tell him you love him still". It's minor difference in game really, just huge difference in my personal interpretation ;)

In any case, in both case it's heartwarming. :)

Seconded, I did the romance twice: as Noble Trevelyan and then as a mage. The one with mage has much better dynamic that suits my taste.

I really love the pairing that come of contrasting background, like Cullen (ex-Templar) to a ex-Circle Mage (haven't play Dalish mage yet). Or Iron Bull (Qunari) - Dorian (Tevinter Mage), these two are normally people at war and it's really good to see how they really care about each other from the banters (even more to Isabela-Fenris friends for benefit thing in DA2). Somehow Josie- BW seems much blander to IB-Dorian...

Hah, I finally decide to de-lurk with a question about when people start their romances, and it's just been brought up!  Perfect timing!

I'm still working on my first playthrough (started late and am something of a completionist), and I didn't trigger Cullen's until after Perseverance.  The flow of their relationship just seemed to work that way, or at least in my head.  It also meant that I could use the "Could you care for a mage?" line (also a fan of the mage/templar dynamic) without asking myself, "Didn't they already go over this in Haven, more or less?"

But I'm incredibly curious about whether that changes any of their conversations post-Adamant.  Someone said something about Cullen comforting the IQ?  Or is that just referring to the Feeling Better scene when he asks how she's doing?

I loved that part.  So Cullen.  So great.  Like someone else said, all too often with Bioware games the PC ends up playing therapist to every other character while getting little or no support in return.  The conversation with Dorian post-Adamant was a perfect example.  After all she did for him, he just prattled on and on while she stood there with the most miserable expression ever.  I was muttering the entire time, "Ugh, Dorian, no wonder you don't have many friends!  Shut up and give her a hug, already!"

Two things I wished were in the game:

1. Cullen's tarot card changes after your sleep together.  (I've seen drawings on here of what it could look like and they are beautiful).

2. Banter between companions about your romance with Cullen. I would have thought out of all the companions Cassandra and Varric would have at least said something. I wrote this in another reply but, I figured I'd share it here.

Varric: So, Seeker, I hear your Inquisitor is now Mrs Rutherford.

Cassandra: There not married Varric, though I hope at some point that does happen. Besides it is good too see two people happy during times like these.

Varric: YOU are having another feeling. I DO need need to mark this on my calendar. Sides, just think Skyhold may end up having little Commanders and Inquisitors running around. If that happens try not to scare them.

Cassandra (sighs and grumbles)

I have an art request/challenge for your artists in here!  Can someone please sketch the quizzie scrambling to get up some rocks and sliding down...while Cassandra, Dorian, and Vivienne all stand atop the rock and snicker at her.  "I wonder when she'll figure out the path is just around the bend?", "Oh, she's just adorable, isn't she?" or something like that?

Because seriously, the number of times this has happened to me in this damned game...it deserves a comic strip!!!!!  ;)

Try this dyamic on for size...warrior Trevelyan training to become a templar pre-conclave (you were the youngest in your family so this is likely how you would end up as devoted to the chantry).

I played my sword n board Trevelyan this way and I enjoyed that dynamic more than the whole mage/templar thing...maybe because the mage/templar thing has been done time and time again? Don't get me wrong, I have two mages with Cullen too! I just loved the warrior dynamic more.

Or...my dual-dagger rogue...they're going to have some very interesting sparring sessions... *cough*
