This one. It´s on page 2.

Aha! Thanks. Gotcha, yeah, I guess I had read that one. Honestly... I don't know why every time the devs answer that question or try to clarify what MLaw said at PAX, it just gets murkier and murkier. Romance is like friendship, only it's romance, like DA2, and DA:I, sometimes, with some characters. You know, like Varric. He's your bro.

(edit: TBH, I think they're preparing us for more limited romance content, per LI.)

I think they should just stop clarifying, and make a list of people who you can sleep with or marry :)

Funny, I always thought that if you are not in love with your companion, nothing stops you from being best friends with them. Like my Warden and Morrigan, they became so close, like sisters! It was amazing, because I never had a friend like Morrigan in my life (I do have awesome friends, but I never wanted to hug them and never let go as they attempted to leave through a magical mirror). And Varric too.

Maybe what they are trying to say is this: all relationships with your companions will be great, interesting, they will make you love these characters, even if only as friends, and these relationships will greatly contribute to the story and emotional engagement.

I agree,I really liked how well-written the friendship arc with Morrigan was and Varric of course,in fact I'd say that as far as some characters are concerned, I enjoyed it more than their romance arc Isabela is another good example.

Ya, Isabella's romance was mostly friendship related and it made it fun. :P

From the same article... that next sentence is what's making me sweat a little bit:

"Some of our, what we would traditionally call romances in Dragon Age: Inquisition are falling more  into that camp where they’re not … they’re more in that friendship area."

What the hell does that mean? LOL!

Reading the article it kinda sounds like he's trying to explain that we'll be actually able to hang out with the LI's (even if you're romancing them) as friends too, not just "here, let me kiss you and jump your bones!" Kinda thing? Maybe?

I like that idea as long as I can still say, 'here, let me kiss you and jump your bones', too lol

I assumed when I originally read that bit in the article, that what was meant was that friendship paths would have the same depth and be just as rewarding as pursuing a romance path. A complaint i've seen a few times is that players feel that unless you enter into a romance with someone, a lot of character nuances, motivations and background are, or can be, missed out on and that a friendship path should still expand on a character to the same level. A good example I think, would be Jack in ME. Of course now i've read it back i'm not so sure about my assumption.

I hope that's what it means, 'cause otherwise I'm just shaking my head.  Yeah, that's gotta be it.  Right?

yeah, this is basically how I interpreted Mike's original comments at PAX. He was asked abt romance, but he responded abt having connections to the character. Friendship with Varric was just an example.

and this is the part where I think they're preparing us for less romance content. DG has pointed out that the strictly Romance content is much less than we would think anyway. Most of it is just friendship content. Like when I thought I was flirting with Alistair at Ostagar.

I still maintain that counts as flirty. Just not romance inducing flirty. More friendly flirty. I do it with my friends.

[HAPPY GASP] Oh, that would be amazing.

I think they've integrated a lot of what would, at one point, have been traditionally LI-only content into a general friendship plot. Which, I think, makes a lot of sense, but does mean that the LI plots are probably going to have less differences between a friendship and a relationship. Same amount of content as in previous games, but less of it is for the romance-only.

This sounds fine to me.

Well, it can't be any worse than the interaction and romance (or lack of) that we got in DA2. They said we'd get a lot of interaction with the companions/LIs, that it's mostly conversation based and we're allowed to kiss them when we want (when in safe zones and stuff), so already that's better than DA2!

I always disliked how you couldn't get more conversations with a character unless you romanced them. I approve of more friendship conversations.

Say what you will- I *was* flirting with Alistair at Ostagar.  :)

I'm sort of excited to see more interactions with the characters, and I remain hopeful and excited about what this means for us. :D

Just realised this means no more healing our LI's woes and psychological scars with our magical genitalia!

I'm strangely ok with that. One of the things that troubled me in Mass Effect 3 was that here I am, enjoying my time with Kaidan, while back on Earth innocent people are being slaughtered. I actually skipped the sex scene because how wrong it felt. Maybe it's just me, but epic catastrophes kind of kill the mood.   So if my Inky falls in love, she may just tell her LI: "I love you, but let's date and/or get married after the War, ok?" And proceed with being comrades at arms who care about each other a bit more than about the others.

I want to be able to randomly talk to my companions whenever I'm at camp. Like in Origins.

Kinda lacked that in DA2 when you could ONLY chat with them at specific times.

I'd like to be able to chat with them when I am exploring too, have unique dialogue you'd only get in that area at that time.

Like for example Zevran has interesting dialogue once you've taken him to the dalish camp.

INQUISITOR: Do you still have your old templar armor?

CULLEN: I--Um. [CLEARS THROAT] Yes. Why?

INQUISITOR: Well, how about you show me your sword of mercy, and I'll show you the light of my life?

CULLEN: [SWALLOWS]

INQUISITOR: [FINGERS CRACKLE]

CULLEN: I'll be right back.

And I just thought of about 50 uses for heat magic.
