Yea, I watched his reponse to it and I was happy I never picked it. He got rather upset about it, and I felt bad for him even though I didn't pick that option ;)

I have to pick it. I'm the sort of person who has to prod, has to know the worst-case scenario :)

OK...got one more question for the group.  Is there some special software that one can get to record their playthrough?  I want to do my ultimate playthrough and I would like to record all the cutscenes and dialogues for myself to watch as my own story. I have a pretty awesome computer, good enough to play the game at all max settings (if that means anything in terms of the software I can get).

Thanks for any help!  i am old and not super computer savvy, but I know some of you are!

I ussually just use OBS for recording things on the computer. It's free and pretty easy to set-up. You can either stream what you are doing or just make a recording with it.

Thanks for your responses, here is the short fanfic conversation where Inquisitior(my character is Lavellan because I picked an Elven Mage) asks Varric to talk to Cullen for her, to find out how he feels, and so Varric talks to him. Just something I thought up at the begging of the game when the romance seemed to be progressing very slowly, and I was imagining ways to get the point across to Cullen :) I never really write anything like this ever, this is my first time, so keep that in mind.

Fraps is probably the best-known recording software, and there is a free version (although it breaks up the recording into short blocks of time).  I have recorded some stuff with Fraps although I haven't got enough RAM to do it with DAI, my framerate drops to nothing and the sound gets all choppy. :(  If you have an nvidia graphics card they have some kind of recording program that isn't meant to be resource-hungry and runs in the background (called Shadowplay I think?), but my graphics card isn't new enough to be compatible.

Listen, I think that everyone in this thread can generally attest to me staying out of conflict and being polite but this is really starting to bug me. We did not go on a "righteous rampage" about it. That is being entirely too dramatic. You asked why people had written a fic a certain way and we all gave you the same answer, because that is they way they wanted to write their fic and there is nothing wrong with that. You write, yes? How would you like it if you came into this thread and saw someone questioning your fic in such a way? I know it would make me feel like crap. Not everyone's pen name is the same name they use in the thread and anyone in here could be the one writing those fics that you keep feeling the need to criticize and not in a constructive manner. This thread has always been about nurturing others creativity, whether we like the content of it or not. I just feel like there is a lot of courtesy lacking here.

Anyway, I don't want to see this anymore. I will be back once this subject is done with. May I suggest a bit more tact in the future because I can assure if this keeps going on, you are going to offend a number of people.

I won't speak for Legend of Kirkwall, but as someone who participates in NaNoWriMo every year, I take my writing rather seriously. Platitudes bother me. I want honest criticism of my work, whether the topic is nonsensical or the grammar and spelling is atrocious. I don't need or want pats on the back, and I don't tell people "good job" for trying. If someone is taking their writing seriously, then it's a lack of courtesy to fail to provide honest feedback.

Monica21...is your tagline/quote "He like feels quiet.  Stronger when you hold him."  Is that something Cole says to you in game?  If it is, I never got it and I LOVE IT!!!

I am a strong believer in constructive criticism but I think it ought to be available to the writer. So if someone posts a fic on here and would like my opinion, I would be happy to offer my thoughts. In the same sense, the author has the ability to respond. If I take a fic from another medium, and offer it here with criticism, my criticism is unlikely to be available to the author, and the author therefore cannot respond, and I feel in that instance it isn't constructive or fair to the author.

I suppose in a nutshell, what I'm saying is that there is a time and a place for constructive criticism to occur and the thread isn't necessarily the correct one.

I think that the basic difference is that if it's the writer himself/herself who ask people about their work, or whether someone pick someone else's work from Tumblr/FF.Net/wherever & start "criticize" or commenting...

If you asked an honest opinion on your own work on this thread, I'm quite sure you'll get it. I post a short work of mine a few weeks back & asked for honest critics & get it. I'm not joking, I really get constructive suggestions

That is constructive. What was said yesterday was not constructive and today was just a continuation of that. Ragging on someones work because you don't like the content of it (content, not quality) is in bad taste when done in such a discourteous manner.

Are the Korean DDOS attacks on PS4 and Xbox because of that movie still going on? That might be why you're having trouble connecting today.

Agreed. Just chiming in...

I write scientific research papers and have taught a class on it.  I have no problem with criticism of any kind, because every single paper I've written or been an author on (8 so far) means i have to sit through at least  one meeting per paper where a group extremely smart and passionate people, including my adviser, rip me to shreds for my writing.  It is necessary in my field.  On top of that, 3 anonymous reviewers rip you to shreds for every little thing. I have also reviewed over a dozen research papers myself and countless papers form labmates. And i am known for being a little brutal (becuase I have high standards).

Point is, I do take my writing and other people's writing very seriously.  It is my job!

That being said, I will encourage every single human being who wants to express themselves creatively.  I have high standards for what I personally love and enjoy. But I have a huge heart for people brave enough to share their creative works, regardless of where they lie on a spectrum. Thus, I ONLY offer criticism when they ask for it and I can give it to them directly. Even still, I am a LOT more forgiving of fanfics, because I read them for fun.  And happy is my default state.

This world, this game, inspires so many people in so many different ways.  And I love seeing where that takes people.  I love seeing where their minds go and what they latch onto.  It is exhilarating to see, regardless of quality.

OK...I think I will buzz out now. See you all later!!!

I wish I could be above making fun of weird **** when I see it, but nah.

There's been a similar reaction yesterday to a criticism toward the excess of angsty teenager fanfics involving Cullen. Also on the thread.

Some people understood what was being criticized and added to the discussion, commenting that also happens with mage Inquisitors, while others took it personal and went on a righteous rampage, like someone had offended them on purpose.

I guess voicing your opinion, even when being polite, always generates mixed reactions. Some people understand it, some people don't. But the reaction was certainly strident, like you pointed out, my friend.  ;)

I see the above post as not very polite.

I won't speak for Legend of Kirkwall, but as someone who participates in NaNoWriMo every year, I take my writing rather seriously. Platitudes bother me. I see some inconsistencies here... There is a difference between honest criticism for the benefit of producing better work and just being snarky because you're amused by someone's fetish or lifestyle or whateverthehell.

This thread has strived to be positive and supporting to it's members, regardless of persuasion, etc. Swooping in to be icky because someone is trying to keep things "mod-friendly" helps no one. Let's be cool, kids.

Now.... all this new Cullen artwork coming out is fantastic.  Waiting (impatiently) for some amazing new fics to show up soon!
