Hmmmm, I think it might not even be the Veil tear itself...

Spoiler

And on a grander scale, I wonder if the Inquisitor's mark can affect the Tranquil. I mean, it looks like he's got a piece of the Fade on his very hand.

Very Ooooh. Much ahhhh.  I hadn't even thought of that. So many possibilities!!

I'm wondering where it confirms for certain that Cullen is an NPC?  It seems everyone is assuming he is an NPC.  Probably right but I'm not completely certain he isn't a companion until I hear it straight from the horse's mouth.  After all, you know what they say about assuming, right? :P

Truth be told, nothing has been officially confirmed yet...The reason most people assume that Cullen is a NPC is based on the evidence and info we have so far.
For example it was mentioned in PAX that there'll be an even number of followers for each class and considering that Cullen is a warrior and that there are already three characters that fill the warrior slot(Cassandra,Iron Bull,Warden)then he's probably not a follower.
Although in the newest trailer it was noted that him,Leliana(Advisor npc) and scribe girl(probably advisor as well)didn't have weapons unlike the rest of the speculated companions.

In few words nothing is confirmed but the evidence we have so far points towards him being an advisor npc, although I agree that speculation should never be taken as confirmation. :)

There is nothing that confirm it as certain but it's just highly likely. Cullen and other who seems as advisors don't have weapons in "last supper" scene when all companions have. Devs have said class split is even which most likely means that there is three warrios. Maybe some kind of miracle will happen and Grey Warden and Cullen will switch places, like GW as advisor of military and Cullen as companion but I'm doubtful. I have just hoped Cullen for being companion so much that I will be more realistic and pessimist now, I can't take anymore hearthaches XD

I just feel like there may still be some hope since I would have thought they would have announced it with the romance info.  but they have been silent as the tomb...... <_<

No, there's been no confirmation one way or the other. TBH, there hasn't even been official confirmation that that was Cullen in the trailer. The only time the devs have  mentioned him was when they confirmed him as LI at PAX. The rest is all speculation. But... the devs have confirmed that not everyone in that War Table shot in the trailer are companions.

Umm, how are we Jesus again? Last time I checked we've already Joan of Jesus over here in Andraste. I mean, I get the obvious Last Supper thing in the companion and advisor photo and I suppose we are some sort of saviour, but it's literally saving the world, not so much morally.

I don't think we're meant to be Jesus :D I think people are just extrapolating on how far a messiah deal might go if there's any heavily intended symbolism to the last super/we-just-needed-a-long-ass-table picture. To me it's more of your standard hero mythos than a messiah thing... We know we'll be able to survive the endgame because they've said we can keep exploring and supernatural ties/powers is a hero/demigod thing, not at all exclusive to Christianity.

I still maintain that counts as flirty. Just not romance inducing flirty. More friendly flirty. I do it with my friends.

Say what you will- I *was* flirting with Alistair at Ostagar.   :)

Sure, it was flirty and friendly. But on the DA scale of content, that was not part of the romance budget. So I look forward to seeing how they've mixed up the balance of purely romance content and friendly, maybe flirty content. Maybe it'll all seem like more this time around if they've focused on our connection with all the characters. Maybe we'll get to feel like we're flirting with Varric this time... even if we never technically close the deal.  :D

I don't remember exactly what was said, but since the inq is the only one that survives the thingy, apparently some people will see that as him/her being sent by the maker.

So like a prophet.

Not saying they'll make direct parallels to Jesus. And the comparison pretty much ends there anyway.

That's what I meant when I said I was flirting with Alistair, whether it "counted" toward the romance or not. :) It sounds like we'll be able to have more in depth chatter with all our folks, and that's always wonderful. I am very excited. Not very articulate though, today. :)

For reference:

Puzzle solved: everyone will die a horrible death, except Cassandra, who will die of old age.  Inq walked out of the Fade, because he actually died, but then respawned :)

Correct me if I'm wrong - I'm putting theories together - wasn't it said that the meeting between templars and mages was taking place where the Sacred Ashes were found? Because in the trailer the area looks very snowy, and in the concept art where we see the massive pulsing pillar (hurr) where the Veil ripped, it looks like we are looking up from Haven.

OH, I know. I was flirting with him, too, as far as I was concerned. My first playthrough I was convinced I was getting somewhere, too! Then I learned he was just being nice.  <_<  And friendly. And funny. And freaking too adorable for words.

Maybe there'll be a nice mix. Some cute friendly flirts here and there and then one or two MASSIVE, DA2 style, Hawke flirts that actually initiate the romance.

For me it takes a really heavy hand for that trope to be offensive but it's really easy to make it boring. But I trust the writers not to make DAI boring, so I trust them not to lean on the Messiah Figure thing too heavily. I think the picture was just like that because you need a stupidly long table to show 13 people clearly.

For me, it takes only the lightest touch before parallels between RL religion and game-world symbolism becomes way too much. Because fans tend to equate the two even without help, and they tend to treat decisions that don't support Andrasteism as "wrong." I'm a completionist who will eventually try *all* the options. I'm not pleased with the prospect of being told that half of those choices are wrong.

Does the war table image go to far? No, but it's pushing my limits. I understand that they were probably going for a classical art reference as much as religious overtones, and that helps... but I hope they don't push the religious angle open any wider.

From the classical painting, Judas was the one with the bent elbow, with his head the lowest in the painting. I really, really hope they didn't take the parallel that far.

Yeah, the Ausgamer article said that the Chantry and mages were meeting there. So sounds like that's where the rift begins. Something that surprised me a bit in the trailer was when Cass made it sound like there was just one rift that's growing, whereas I had thought from the previous demo stuff last year that there were multiple rifts around that we had to go close. LIke the one underneath that lake near Crestwood. So I dunno if those are pics of it starting or not. But the snow does look like Haven.

Yes, I think on of the Devs said they meet at the sacred ashes temple in one of the interviews recently published, I just obviously can't recall whom or which interview, lol.
It also explains why we're starting in Ferelden even though it seems most of the game will be in Orlais.

Seems weird that they would have it there considering my Warden killed poor brother Genitivi to keep Andraste's Ashes safe.

It's a pretty good idea, actually. I'd been trying to come up with a good spot for a meet in a fic I'm writing. Haven't figured it out yet.  :P

cool - so my guess is that Inq survives somehow due to the sacred ashes? Maybe huffing them behind the scenes, or she trips over the urn and gets covered in them just as the veil tears!

Yeah, Cassandra's voice over about the breach startled me briefly because it made it sound like there was only one and that the thing was going to destroy the world in bloody hours rather than the months I imagine the game will probably last. Then I realized that dialogue is probably from very early in the game: at that point Cass probably doesn't know about any other tears or how much time they may or may not have to deal with the matter.

Could the temple be a matter of historical record? If Genitivi followed the trail there, others could, too. He's *the* authority on Andraste, true, but maybe he left some clues behind.

Perhaps the maker's just pissed that so many people are tramping around that close to Andraste's burial place so he decided to blow them up.

Hey, i solved the mystery.

I'm sure someone else may have found out about it at one point - perhaps a thief went into Genetivi's house and found all his research, sold it to someone for a hefty price, and the person whom bought the info was like "OMG ANDRASTE'S ASHES" and sent out their own expedition.

Thanks for the answers - I remember Oghren saying that the lyrium there being the most pure he has ever felt...or smelled...whatever. I wonder if that would have anything to do with it.

Oh it is a good spot, there's no denying. It's a religious spot, so if either side tries to attack the other there, they will forever be in the wrong in the eyes of Thedas, so both have a reason to find an agreement and peaceful resolution. However, at least a fair amount of Wardens wouldn't have wanted the secret to get blabbed, and took steps against it. If it is there, I'd like to see that addressed in my canon playthrough.
