Well, I previously romanced Solas and he doesn't have a sex scene at all (Patrick Weekes wanted the players to decide for themselves if they had sex).
Did Patrick actually answer a question about this?? I found it really curious that ...

I’ve got some thoughts on Cullen and the romance thus I decided to take the time to share them with you all.
Spoiler
Now I move onto a question that someone, anyone can clear up. I was told that other romances, like Bull, Sera etc sleep with you after The Ball OR Adamant. However Cullen sleeps with you after both. Thus it got me thinking and I tried to find an answer and came up empty. Why does Cullen wait so long?
To your spoiler:
I totally agree and loved this!
In regards to Cullen waiting. I think the difference between his romance and Bull's is that Bull's starts out more as a physical fling (in my opinion), that ends up turning into more. Bull even says "I get it...you want to ride the Bull." Cullen's relationship is different. He's been holding a candle for the IQ for a while but never made a move because he didn't think it was possible due to...reasons (who the IQ is, gravity of the situation, etc). He even tells this the IQ. To him, when he's finally able to pursue the relationship, it's serious. Not that serious relationships can't start with being physical first (as we see with Bull's), I just don't see the relationship with Cullen starting that way. If it did, I think it wouldn't be as powerful. I dunno, maybe I'm silly. Cullen's relationship is a slow burn and the lead-up to the physical part is quite good.
And technically, Bull will sleep with the IQ as soon as you complete his Storm Coast quest right after getting to Skyhold. Your approval just needs to be high enough and you need to have talked to him about the Chargers and Seheron.
Whew, I always do Halamshiral after Adamant. It's just not... the same feeling of urgency. Adamant's like "the Warden are doing crazy stuffs! help!" and Halamshiral is like "Well we need to go to a Ball, Josie will try to secure an invitation". Hmm... After Adamant my Inquisitor had just been... completely mindblown that Cullen didn't even dare to ask
Yeah, I did Adamant first because I had Alistair as a Grey Warden this time in my worldstate and I wanted to see him ASAP ^^
...I must have a thing for hooking up ex-templars and mages. So sue me ![]()

Mhmm, he answered it on twitter.

No you're not, I'm completely agree with you ![]()
In my own headspace, they became intimate long before the actual sex scene occurs. Unlike the scenes in DA:O or DA2, it's not expressly stated that they're having sex for the very first time. Cullen's uncharacteristic smoothness and the familiar intimacy of the "morning after" scene make it difficult for me to believe that it really was the first time. Also, by this point they've known each other for quite a while, and I like to think of them as having a, ah, "active" relationship. YMMV, of course.
This works for me as well.
I play each of my girls differently and for some, this would certainly be the case. For others, it would be different.
When Raven, my dual-dagger fireball finally realizes that he's gotten under her skin, she's going to be climbing that boy like a tree! ![]()
My Dalish mage, Ever though...in my head it really did happen first right after Adamant, since I did Adamant after the ball.
Huh, cool. Thanks. Huh. Some of the dialogue was awfully saucy for that answer, but I'm glad players can decide for themselves.
Wasn't the erratic behaviour due to his lyrium addiction?
I think that's was implied but I don't think Cullen said it specifically. I'd go check but Fluffy was my go to for all of those ><

Me too. The dialogue and other characters' banter could hint towards them just teasing/flirting or actually having a physical relationship.
Why does Cullen wait so long?
I think many factors play into his slower pace. Part of it is probably fear and caution. He is all too familiar with losing things, so it may be a bit of a self-defense against opening himself up to the pain of potentially losing her. He is also going through things that make him a bit unstable. I think he wants to be more than that before really getting involved with her,or at the very least to have her understand it and accept it. Not to make assumptions, but I think he did need a shoulder to lean on and I think the relationship gained a lot from having the Inquisitor support him.
He's also a very walled in person, by that I mean he isn't one to go around telling his true sentiments or disclosing anything personal to others. So first he has to have some reassurance from the Inquisitor to feel comfortable with doing so to her. There is also the factor of circumstances. He is still largely invested in being the Commander of the Inquisition, therefore the Inquisitor has to actively pull him away from focusing solely on that (which is yet another mainstay in his life).
I think a lot of the time is really spent on breaking down walls and getting to know him. He has to have that foundation to feel right in pursuing and ultimately falling for the Inquisitor. That and a time allowance to truly care despite whatever misgivings he has about doing so.
It was a very nice ease away from professional to personal relationship.
That's how I interpreted it, at least.
On Samson, Cullen initially says:
Spoiler
Anyway, clearly we know Samson broke some rules, but it's the way they talk about his addiction as a character flaw that I find curious.
Yea... in that context "erratic behavior" could mean anything. I take the specific stuff he mentioned to be what Samson did after being expelled. Which there were more details though
And yea, more details and why his addiction was worse then everyone else's would be nice as well.

Yea agree Adamant is more urgent, but I stayed away from many spoilers so I didn't even know Adamant was a thing. I had this quest to go find Hawke's Warden freind and to check out stuff there, but I found out about the plan to kill Celene before that. So I just figured that was where I was supposed to go first. I didn't even head to the Western Approach until after I did the Ball. Also, I sort of think it was intended for that scene to happen after Adamant because in the beginning Cullen says "rhylen's men will monitor the situation" and if you go to the Western Approach and take the keep you know Rhylen and his men are there. Also, what would Rhylen be keeping an eye on at palace? ![]()
I don't have screenshots, but I thought that Samson being expelled for "erratic behavior" was just a cover / not the real reason. Cullen quotes from the talktables:SpoilerMaybe Meredith considered that "erratic behavior"?
She sure did. According to Cullen, the mage Maddox had "corrupted Samson's templar honor", therefore rendering him useless to the Order.
And the Commander goes on to add that Meredith could crack the whip when she wanted. Or something like that. ![]()
Aaaaaah, I hate when people talk over the conversations. I always edit it out if I accidentally talk over them.
I also probably answered in too much of a hurry (had a delivery show up unexpectedly early
). To be clear, the reason I find some commentators offensive is that some of them are very critical/insulting about the appearances, etc. of NPCs, and while they have every right to express their opinions, I have just as much right to choose not to listen to them (in fact, I unfollowed someone whose commentary I otherwise enjoyed because there was a pattern of such comments that completely ruined my enjoyment). Others insist on chattering about every single choice they make, etc., and I find that distracting. Plus the people who talk over the conversations (or make fun of them while they're happening). So I've generally found I prefer to find uncommented ones
Women cracking whips on the men under her (command)...hm...because positions.

Idk... I mean Meredith was crazy, but I find it hard to believe she'd kick him out just for that. I also feel like if it was just that one thing Cullen would have protested it.

When I first heard about Maddox and the love letters, I thought "Wait? Is that Hawke's dad?" It's kind of embarrassing that I mixed that up with Malcolm along with the time frame-- oops.
Good Lord, if Dana Duchy gets whacked, I'm gonna be furious.
My thoughts exactly!! ![]()

Yes, good point.
I'm still bracing for that... I still have to do his personal quest in the Exalted Plains.
Just a quick poll for opinion, which of this name sounds better for my lady Lavellan (mage) x Solas? Luthiel, Luthien, Iluthien, Iluviel, (I'm open for other ideas)
These names are very Tolkien inspired, but I'm saving Revas for my archer so...
Luthien won't work for a Solas romance, maybe Blackwall or Cullen ![]()

I think you are confusing the explanation for why Maddox was made tranquil with an explanation for why Samson was kicked out. Maddox was made tranquil for contributing to (I forget the exact word) the ruining of a templar. When he's questioned about being made tranquil over a few love letters Cullen replies, "Merideth wielded the brand for far less". I feel like the view of mages and templars is separate and although she'd tranquil someone for that I don't think she'd kick a templar out for just that. No way to know for sure though.

Also, Cullen specifically goes from thinking Samson is a good man to not ("he seemed a decent man at first"). I can't see Cullen thinking something like that means you're "bad."

Good luck- it hurts, but it's definitely worth it.
The Solas thread also acts as a support group for those who romanced him, hehe. After what happened, we're all hoping for something more in DLC form.

I'll have to go introduce myself... after. *gulp* I think I'll need it. ![]()
Yea I am working through the Solas romance and I am already bracing myself for that. So happy I went with Cullen first ![]()
