Also, Cullen specifically goes from thinking Samson is "good man" to not ("he seemed a decent man at first"). I can't see Cullen thinking something like that means you're "bad."

Nah, having choice of "trying to get out of Lyrium the painful way" or "keep on Lyrium as the easier way"... I mean it's entirely possible (headcannon ahoy!) that Samson had tried, can't endure as much as Cullen, then say what the hell I don't care.
Seeing how Cullen's quite affected on being off Lyrium, it's not easy so maybe Samson had just... chosen the easier route.
Good luck- it hurts, but it's definitely worth it.

Eh, even with being expelled Samson did have choices. They probably weren't fair choices or easy ones, but he did make his own choices. Also in his judgement you see that he's not crazy or deluded... he knew exactly what he was doing.

Idk... I mean Meredith was crazy, but I find it hard to believe she'd kick him out just for that. I also feel like if it was just that one thing Cullen would have protested it.
I had assumed that if Samson was kicked out just for that, Meredith had made it sound worse than it was, and Cullen didn't know the true reason until he'd taken over for her and had access to all of her reports/records. This is also how I justify Cullen not protesting about mages being made tranquil for "far lesser offenses" than passing love notes around. That's just me, though!

It's possible. But I don't think he would have necessarily protested about Maddox because Cullen was still kind of in a bad place with mages then. He also knew where Maddox was after he was made tranquil so he had to know about it on some level. Unfortunately all we know is Merideth kept some choices from Cullen (one thing we know for sure is he didn't know how badly mages were treated after they were imprisoned) but we don't know if he knew why Maddox was tranquiled at the time :/

Yeah, I actually had a bit more to my comment that I deleted before posting: Unless Cullen's hatred of mages was so strong at this point that he was okay with this punishment.
It's possible Meredith may have claimed something like Samson and Maddox were plotting/conspiring against the Order/Circle or some such nonsense to justify her actions, but, like you said, we don't know for sure.

In my own headspace, they became intimate long before the actual sex scene occurs. Unlike the scenes in DA:O or DA2, it's not expressly stated that they're having sex for the very first time. Cullen's uncharacteristic smoothness and the familiar intimacy of the "morning after" scene make it difficult for me to believe that it really was the first time. Also, by this point they've known each other for quite a while, and I like to think of them as having a, ah, "active" relationship. YMMV, of course.

I agree emotions are way more intimate then just sex.
I also like to headcanon that that may have been their first time having sex, but only because they kept getting interrupted before that (which would play to being comfortable because they got some of the way). Because I really like the idea of sexually frustrated Cullen....I'm a bad person.

I am only in the very beginning of the Solas romance (the initial flirts in Haven) but he seems much more calm cool and collected when it comes to flirtation/romance. Like the whole "are you calling me graceful?" "no I'm declaring it" If that dialogue had happened with Cullen he would've been like "uhhh i uhhh of course i mean yes i mean..." *turns away to hide his blushing* "soldiers put some back into it!!"
