So, I take Dorian everywhere with my Trevelyan, and I have a headcanon that Cullen asks his bro Dorian to watch after her when they're out getting into danger.  Not that Trevelyan isn't capable of looking after herself, but it's just something that puts Cullen's mind at ease when she constantly risking her own life.

That's how I felt when I watched it that long ago and then recently since I rediscovered it, lol! I told it was funny if not equally disturbing!

I'd be content if they even just talked about it (if he doesn't go ahead and propose) in a future DLC.  Something like them sitting down together and discussing where they see themselves in the future, and one of them says, "Well, what do you think of marriage?" (and I'd LOVE if Cullen were the one to bring it up first).  It's also more likely to happen than an actual wedding and could be just as cute and sweet

 

I'm of two minds about this... on the one hand, it would be great for the fans who get to romance Cullen and would like this sort of story line. But on the other hand, it could make some fans uncomfortable (those not comfortable with the thought of marriage) and it also would be unfair to players who didn't romance Cullen. Should players who romance Josie get the option to propose marriage? But what if a female player romances Josie; can only the male propose marriage? See, that's where we get into unfairness. So could only straight players marry their love interest? That is too reflective of the real world (in some places) for comfort, at least in my opinion.

 

Maybe things like marriage and family should be left to the wonderful world of fanfiction and fanart

I never meant to suggest that.  I was just talking about what could happen in the Cullen romance, not the others.  Who's to say that same sex romances can't talk about marriage?  Straight and gay marriage isn't mutually exclusive at all, nor would I ever say that.  I'm sorry if I offended, though.

Personally, I would love to see Cullen and my quizzy married in-game because I personally also interpret Cullen as wanting it, but I certainly wouldn't want anyone to feel left out in some way due to the sometimes restrictive and/or exclusive nature of marriage in real life. If it is ever implemented, I'd hope there would be an equally tasteful and fulfilling option to not marry them and have them live the rest of their lives still just as much in love together. I'd trust the writers to do as much if it ever came to it. And if they'd rather leave it all to headcanons, that would be understandable as well.

 

I also just want to say that, though I've only been on these forums for a short amount of time, I've really come to appreciate the incredible variety of people I have the pleasure of interacting with here. I'm not omniscient and there is no way I could possibly envision all the different life situations and resulting preferences of other DA fans as one lone person, so it's been a very eye-opening experience seeing things like marriage and sexuality addressed in what has generally been a very courteous and informative manner in this thread. It is really interesting to see other points of view. So, at the risk of sounding terribly sappy - thank you, everyone.

However BW has previously given three marriages in the DA games (Alistair, Sebastian and Anora). So if it fits to story they are telling I would say go for it. Of cource the all romances should have as much substance so although they go different routes it would be nice for all of them be as fullfilling. I don't think marriage and family is needed or even wanted for every romance cause I'd personally prefer romances without such burdens

 

I get the unfair opinion but I don't know if there is much to do for it other than cut marriage from every romance. Cause I don't think gay marriage is thing in Thedas. Maybe I'm horribly wrong but it doesn't seem like that : / Then in other hand gay marriage could be included in some culture we aren't as aware like Rivain's, Anderfels', Dalish' etc and that way BW would provide more equal romances for people in marriage wise, that'd be cool actually..

I just think it's better to leave things like marriage and children to headcanon and fanart. I just don't see any need to include it in the game, and I don't view either as more romantic than the alternative. I also don't view either as a way to validate a relationship. 

I get that there are some people who would like to see it and who would think it's romantic and that's fine, but for me personally there are plenty of other things I'd much rather see in the game or in a DLC.

And I hope this doesn't come off as flaming, but I need to get this off my chest.  I'm a bisexual woman myself, and I don't like the implication that just because I'm pursuing a male romance option that I'm a straight player.  Or that those who are in m/f relationships are automatically straight.  You didn't know that, though; I didn't say anything about my sexuality here, but I just felt like it needed to be said.  Bisexual erasure is kind of a touchy subject for me.
