It's possible that the Blight was an engineered bioweapon used in the civil war that grew out of control forcing the ancient elves to contain it.

Or what if it was a mistake? Lyrium is always called the substance of creation itself in the codices. What if they were messing around with it, Frankenstein-style, and the Blight and red lyrium were the result?

(I say in full acknowledgement that I *hate* "science run amok" stories. But "playing god" is a potentially interesting angle. One thing that intrigues me about Solas is his arrogance... something that perhaps the earliest elves had in spades.)

I'm still not convinced that what we saw happening in the final scene is actually what was going on. I wouldn't be shocked to find out that the roles we've perceived are reversed somehow.

Depends if that datamined description was just a red herring, or if they decide to scrap it as a punishment for us looking for spoilers lol. As it stands what we saw is what we got.

Oh, does she not stay in Kirkwall if she doesn't destroy the mirror? In all my play-throughs she is in Kirkwall protecting the alienage.

In mine Varric said she was off helping elves somewhere.

Merrill is just plain obsessed, so that makes her a bit different than Sera. Sera acts more like she's playing a game and if people get hurt, then it's someone else's fault.

I think every character looks weird in that shot -- just like they all look hideous in those "exaggerated grimace" moments in the prologue.  Or that's what I tell myself, anyway.  ;)

I know right?! Nothing like creating the perfect inquisitor only to have him/her become a gargoyle as soon as you start the game lol

It really wouldn't surprise me if it was cut. I Hope there is a way to put some of this in a DLC. Think of all the awesome stuff we have missed out on. It is a shame that they weren't given the same amount of production time as DAO but from a business standpoint I understand why they did it.

It doesn't matter how much time you put into the production of a game, things will always get cut. Origins was six years in the making, and the original concept and the final product look nothing alike. Skyrim was also six years in production, and you would not believe the amount of cut content people have found in the game files. A game can't be in production forever, at some point it has to ship, and stuff will always end up cut.

It's kinda surprising what a big deal people are making of the cut content in this game, because this always happens to every game, and Inquisition is not the worst case of cut content even in recent history. Maybe it's because DA players are not as used to following game development, so they don't have the perspective of worse experiences? If you'd followed development of Skyrim since the days of Oblivion, and the massive changes and cuts and the mess of a final product that was delivered over the promises made at the start, you'd honestly find DAI's cut very little content off its final version and shipped out a much more complete, polished and functional game, in comparison.

I wonder what was supposed to happen with it? Maybe we would've heard that demons poured out of it and killed a bunch of people or something?

I was pretty disappointed in general about the lack of DAII cameos/results of actions in DAI

Ah, but these days, science run amok and playing god are often one and the same in stories. :P

So this is an interesting one...I somehow managed a night scene...

[snip]

Well, that's certainly interesting. The lighting never changed for me! His furry mantle thing did keep trying to eat my Inquisitor's neck, though.

There were so many potential threads that could have been taken up and had things done with them thanks to both DAO and DA2 that they had to have had tons of ideas and potential story threads in the works that just had to be cut because they either made no sense in the end or couldn't be followed through on with the time allowed or went nowhere except to tie something up in a very resource intensive manner or some combination of the above.

It certain sounds like the Blight's origin is going that way! Then when the Tervinter Magisters broke into the city they let the Blight out again.

Yeah. Not gonna lie, I'm liking the direction that they are taking this world's lore.

The only issue I have is when they announce the cut content as something that's already locked into the game, only for it to not be there when the game ships. They could have at least mentioned before launch what is no longer in there. For example, the customisable keeps and the quest where you could save the Keep or the village, they didn't tell us it was gone until people started asking where it was/if they'd missed something.

Some very interesting theorising going on here. Me likey very much  :D

So going under the theory that the ancient elves created the blight I wonder if that is what took away their immortality?

I was just pondering that. Isn't there a codex entry that claims a powerful elf did create different species, and then the elven goddess of the hunt (or whatever) got annoyed because she couldn't hunt/kill them so they offered her/him godhood if she'd/he'd destroy them/make them huntable, or something like that? Corypheus also said that the Qunari were a mistake, so maybe they really were creating new life and the Darkspawn were originally a species created that went a bit ****** up? LOL!

... Or maybe one of the elven gods (Dumat or whoever) got too big for their boots and decided to create their own race to rule over and it all went completely wrong?

It could be, given the sentience that is often prescribed to lyrium. And creating life is often the 'final frontier' for many advanced races, right?

For myself, I'm still not sure we even really know what Solas's plan was.

I didn't realize there was a big deal being made about it? I don't really venture out of this section of the forums so this is the first time I have said anything about it to anyone. And yeah, I know content always gets cut no matter what.  :)

Wait, how did we get to lyrium being sentient? I thought it was just alive like a plant or bacteria or something.

Well it must have some kind of sentience since it supposedly 'sings' to people.
