You know... in trying to think about when all this stuff happened, I've been assuming that most of the super ancient stuff is a big ole handwave, rounding time to the nearest century or longer. Imagine my surprise when World Of Thedas apparently puts these two events within 50 years of each other, which within the errors is practically the same time.

Sing could just be a descriptive term. I've seen authors describe being on a drug as it "singing through your veins." But the drug is most definitely not sentient or even alive.

I didn't realize there was a big deal being made about it? I don't really venture out of this section of the forums so this is the first time I have said anything about it to anyone. And yeah, I know content always gets cut no matter what.
Not you, you silly Boom.
I mean around the forums, on tumblr, reddit, etc. There's a lot of wah-wah about cut content in DAI and comparisons to how Skyrim is so magical and full of content, but when you actually followed development of Skyrim and saw how much was promised and how much was cut there compared to the handful of things that were cut from DAI (or not even cut, but just fan theories that took airs of official announcement and later didn't come to fruition because it was never in the plans anyway)... heh. It's just weird.

Lyrium being sentient would creep me the frack out. Cool, but woah.

Wait, how did we get to lyrium being sentient? I thought it was just alive like a plant or bacteria or something.
It's often described in a way that suggests it, altho there's no official source calling it sentient. So it's just a theory. In fact, World of Thedas specifically calls it "nonliving."

Well it must have some kind of sentience since it supposedly 'sings' to people.
Hmm, true. Or it could be that it just produces some psychic signal that sounds like song or harmonics, no real sentience necessary for that.

Oh, yeah I don't go on Reddit and only go on Tumblr to get my daily dosage of Cullen fan art so I remain relativity pure when it comes to the negative side of any fandom. ![]()

True but given the context a word like singing has in this universe a la archdemons whispering/singing to wardens/darkspawn it's not too outlandish to think of lyrium singing to people in a literal sense I suppose. Guess we'll have to wait on the writers maybe giving a definitive answer as to what they mean by lyrium being alive.

It could be, given the sentience that is often prescribed to lyrium. And creating life is often the 'final frontier' for many advanced races, right?
For myself, I'm still not sure we even really know what Solas's plan was.

Well, based on the data we mined from the final scene.

If it's infected with the Blight, I would expect at most that it's the same song Wardens hear from the ADs or corrupted Old Gods. Maybe the Blight has the potential to create some kind of many-mind out of those who are infected with it with the more powerful psyches taking the upper hand or strongest tones in the "song." But the Blight isn't itself sentient, only linking sentience and destroying individuality.

Now, I'm thinking that the "Old Gods" and elven pantheon have major connections. I think the Old Gods might be a rival pantheon, maybe even the Forgotten Ones, that opposed the original elven pantheon. And when the OGs got kicked out, they made their way to Tevinter instead.

On the last point, IIRC, Solas said this specifically. Or maybe a codex. That the focii were each dedicated to a god. Something like that. So, agree, when I heard it, I thought that each of the gods has their own.Well, based on the data we mined from the final scene.

I mean, if the quickening started around the same time that the Old Gods started whispering to the humans to be let out... it could very well be that whatever happened with the elven gods being locked away also involved the focii being lost/destroyed/whatever.

What if that's why Fen Harel locked them away? To stop them from dying?
