Actually, my biggest disappointment are the controls. It isn't that I can't work them out, it's that they're SO much harder on the hands than DAO was. No form of autorun that I can find, having to key-spam attacks to keep going, etc. I'm finding I have to set an alarm and not play more than 45 minutes at a time to avoid pain from repetitive motion. NOT designed for those of us getting older, obviously. All I can think is that they were trying to please some gamers who wanted the game to be more challenging or trying to keep PC controls comparable to console or something of that sort. Wish they'd made an interface for people who can't afford that sort of repetitive motion, etc.

I know you probably won't want to hear this...but the controls on console are pretty stellar imo...well besides the damn jump button being attached to the same button for interacting with the world. I swear most of my screenshots in the field look like my IQ is jumping for joy at the prospect of loot...which could be true depending on what the loot is.

Honestly. In Skyrim once you've done your 200+ hour run it makes sense why you might not want to play again. But with a Bioware game... if you don't want to play again even after investing 130 some hours something is definitely wrong.

As someone with over 1,000 plus hours in Skyrim, I will probably never tire of that game due to the modding and the complete openness of the game. However, I do not want Bioware to copy that style. Their strength is story telling and character development. I hope that doesn't change.

I say that as someone who loves both companies and appreciates strengths and have accepted their weakness as well.

I think I might see how it goes. I only play in short bursts and so far I have completed the Fallow Mire, Hinterlands, Storm Coast, Crestwood and the Western Approach. Can you give me an estimate of how long it would take me to clear the remaining maps? Will it be a miserable grind to do the remaining maps spaced out between the last 2 main missions?

Emerald Graves is a really nice map and it has actually decent quests that you can tie to Elven lore so if you do any other area I suggest that one. Then the Hissing Wastes has a lot on Dwarves...up to you.

Oh yea I'm talking unmodded. I would probably spend just as much time as you on a modded Skyrim.

Seconding! Thirding? And let me just leave a mini-gripe about the search button being the left stick instead of the right. Just let me remap the controls already, pretty please? :D

If we had to cut down some spaces then I would had been content with the Emerald Graves, Emprise Du Lion...and...geez I love the Hinterlands, Hissing Wastes, and Exalted Plains...so...

I quite liked Emprise Du Lion but I wish it had been a bit more story driven as we pushed through the area, rather than just picking up pages telling us what was going on. A few cutscenes of the Red Templars doing things like dragging the civilians into the prison carts, entering the mines to find them sacrificing a few npcs to grow their red lyrium, pushing further up the fortress to find Red Templars in various stages of mutation (via cutscenes) etc would've been far more poignant than witnessing bits and pieces in third person.

I really wish they'd release a toolset for DAI, the fans and modders could drastically improve the game just by adding things like that.

Let's face it; they needed another year, possibly two years. Knowing what I know now, having played what they gave us, I would be content to wait.

Well taking look at all bugs and problems it really seem like the game was rushed out even with extra time they had.

I think my canon Inquisitor would've been a guy with the American accent if Cullen and Solas hadn't been romanceable, Cassandra or Dorian would've likely ended up his canon romance... hard to say really. Not sure what race I would've been, probably Qunari.

Stoic templar guy for Dorian and cute mage guy for Cassandra. I don't think I'd have gone lady at all taking look at the LI's and having to only play as human ^^; I'm quite glad they decided to add all the races, makes playing much more intresting to me :)

Made me sad to see them trying to jump on the sandbox style game bandwagon, cause sandbox games just don't have to same appeal to me.  (They always feel like quantity over quality)  I know they are quite popular though, so I can see why they would do that, and it's great for those who enjoy it.  Just makes me sad that one of the series that wasn't originally that way is going in that direction now.  Feels like it's all sandbox this and sandbox that these days, lol.

Perhaps the Emerald Graves will be of more use in future DLC/Expansion regarding a certain someone... or I hope so, anyway.

It could work for both if they allowed remapping. ;)

Yeah one thing that I will always stand by is a multitude of cutscenes...gimme them for the companions, gimme then when I come across something epic and for God's sake when I find an ancient elven temple in the Emerald Graves someone else comment on everything in there, lol!

I guess I am kind of lucky that most of the time when I play, I am talking to people in party chat so I get to shoot s*** with them and haven't really noticed that I'm grinding or anything. Hopefully that will still work because I did plan on this being a complete play through.

I don't feel like the Emerald Graves is done...not yet at least. I mean with you-know-who and the fact that elven history is so rich there...if there is any place to expand upon it would be there.

YES! I was really surprised when I found that we could not remap any of the controls at all...a tad annoying...stupid jump button...

Though I can see the argument, I wouldn't say that's the case with all games. With Elder Scrolls the "quality" is in the massive landscape and active weather and day/night cycles. You can totally get lost...for 100's of hours...and still find new stuff.

Um, don't you still have to do the endless, repetitive push buttons to keep hitting in combat? I've never played with a controller (well, not since I was much younger playing Pong on an Atari :P.) I'm perfectly comfortable with WASDX movements, I've been doing that in games for many years. It's having to push a key (or button) repeatedly that's the worse (I've remapped some of the keys that are an awkward stretch but used repeatedly). And having to literally stand on loot to loot it, sigh. And having to hold something down to run at all.

yes yes yes. The pacing must be a biiiig focal point for the next game. And also if more of the main quests were integrated into some of those open environments. I don't want to be exploring thinking well okay so why the hell does it matter whether or not I go here? Because for some areas it really doesn't.

Yep. And even as important as Emprise du Leon is, it's not necessary that you go there. It probably should be, but nah. I mean, there are some gorgeous zones, but it felt almost like they saying, "holy cow this is so cool look at this!" instead making the region necessary to the story progression.

Yeah, the only problem is that the controller makes it hard to manage tactical combat. But I generally play in Casual mode anyways so then that's fine. I bumped it up to Normal for my dual-dagger rogue because the DPS she puts out is just uber OP...and I haven't even gotten her Assassin spec yet.

No, you hold down right trigger to auto-attack...much nice! And you can run/walk depending on how much pressure you put into the left analog stick. Again, much nice!

I pace myself. I do Hinterlands, Fallow Mire, Storm Coast, Crestwood in and around Haven. I work my way through Western Approach, Hissing Wastes, Exalted Plains in and around Wicked and Adamant. I do Emerald Graves and Emprise before I tackle Pride and the end.

If course, I bounce around and do clean up and various companion quests and dragon hunting and other things all through this.

Is there a specific order in which these are are supposed to go, I know they can be done in any order, but I mean based on the level of enemies. I did Hinterlands, Fallow Mire, Storm Coast, Crestwood. I am at Skyhold now, have not done Adamant or Wicked Eyes. I did go to Emerald Graves and Emprise Du Lion just to do Cullen's personal quest. So now I am left with a bunch of areas, can't remember in which order I unlocked them. But I did notice sometimes, like when I went back to Storm Coast for something, there were enemies who were 3 levels less than me so I did not get any experience from them. So I am just afraid of doing the remaining areas in the wrong order, and accidentally leaving the "easiest" one for last or something, so when I finally get there I am just going to have a bunch of easy enemies who don't even give me any experience.

The good thing about Skyrim is that you can mod it to buggery and completely change the whole game if you want, that in itself creates and encourages 1000's of hours of replayability and roleplaying.

Ooo, you're going Assassin? Me too. So much fun dealing that much damage!  ^_^
