Husband works for a German company, so he's picked up a lot of the German invective over the years.

I have a Norwegian friend and I've just now decided that I need to make him teach me to Norwegian curses, so I can use them at work.

I only know a bit of german I'm used to cursing in chinese though but oh man that in it self is def spaz moments cause some of the stuff profanity wise is like O.o

Let's all be honest...we all try to find out the curse words in the language we are learning. I remember my teacher taught us some in a formal way. She always said that these words had two meanings...one that is appropriate and one that isn't.

Lol living in Ohio it is wise to know German. I typically just go ficken du to anyone who is really annoying me. I believe one could easily translate what those two words mean in English.

ahahah same where I live. Although sometimes its rough because pretty much everyone in the area knows what I'm saying... oh well! still fun to say!

Considering I was raised going to church and being the perfect little server at the place...I was tame for most of my life. I am also left-handed so some of the older folk already thought Satan was knocking on my door at night...so I did not need to give them anymore power to crucify me.

I'm an evil leftie as well. My grandfather tried to turn me right-handed when I was little. He was unsuccessful.

I also grew up going to church and bible study...then when I got old enough I asked too many questions and was like NOPE! Needless to say, I'm pretty...ecclectic...in my beliefs.

My only rule...you can worship the god of the almighty Sock Monkey for all I care...just don't try to push me to do the same thing.

Yeah, I've never climbed up a ladder after sex, but I think that once you've had desk sex, you're not going to be looking up at someone nether regions and thinking "ewww." Quite the opposite, actually.

My thought is most of the time, I've just made a much closer, hmm, inspection anyway ;)

I just hoping my IQ's hair didn't catch on fire with the candle!

No kidding! Honestly, I ended up concluding they moved up the ladder before it went very far just because of all the armor and stuff involved (and one assumes some awareness that his office was a public thoroughfare :P

Just wanted to chime in on the discussion folks were having a few pages back.

Did anyone else feel like the "Champions of the Just" quest was chopped up?  Ie, it seemed to me like it was hastily written or added an afterthought to make a templar versus mage storyline. When I compare it to the mage quest, it felt very paltry in comparison...almost like it was not complete.

Just a few things I noticed...

In the mage quest, you have a bunch of npcs you can chat with about how they feel about what is happening in redcliffe.  In the CoJ, nothing.  Just a few murmurs, but no one to really interact to gauge how folks are feeling.

In the mage quest, you get to interact with Fiona and three companions, which makes you want to replay it with the others in your group to see what their response would be in the future.  But in CoJ, you get nothing like that...just the same envy demon scenes no matter who you bring along.

In the mage quest, you get to recruit a new agent...the tranquil alchemist in the tavern.  In CoJ, I don't remember anyone getting recruited...aside from the templars themselves.

The emotional impact was so intense in the mage quest...a man trying to save his son, how terrible everything is in that dark future, the amazing dialouge.  The look that your two characters give each other when they march to their deaths to let you and Dorian have your chance (soooo good!).  Leliana firing her bows and saying a part of the Chant (perfection).  I got goosebumps!  Nothing like that in the CoJ, except maybe when the guy drinks the lyrium (I can't even remember his name now, cause I was so underwhelmed).  Even the Leliana throat cutting scene was low impact because you KNEW it was fake.  If they had made it seem real, if you really didn't know that none of it was real, imagine how amazing that would of been!  And according to the Gaider article referenced a few posts back, it seems like that was what they originally intended.

Plus, Dorian's introduction in the mage quest was WAY more in depth than Cole's in CoJ...in fact, meeting Cole with Roderick was more interesting that meeting him in the CoJ quest.

NOW, it is VERY possible that i feel this way because I played the mage quest first.  So my question is really for folks who did CoJ first and then the other.  Am I being too critical here?  Or did it feel a bit tacked on to you as well?  What did you like about eh CoJ quest?

That awkward moment when you are in the ER and hear a conversation between some Amish...they are not as innocent as many assume!

Well I was apparently a "biter" when I was little and I had curely blonde hair with bright blue eyes that often ended up turning red in photos...I did look pretty evil now that I think about it.

I used to be a pretty devout church-goer as in I went every Sunday and Saturday. We always had our bible study on Weds so my weeks back then were pretty much full of church, soccer, friends. I then was just like...I don't feel the need to go to church to prove what I believe in so I remember I told my parent that I was done and they were pretty cool with it.

Ah gotta love those German teachers. I still remember how I much I hated learning all that grammar though...ugh when these two vowels go walking it's the last one that does the talking. I still remember that little saying that my teacher told all of us so long ago.

I never got away from God, but there were experiences I had growing up that made it awful hard for me to disbelieve. That being said people will go their own way in life. That's the purpose of what we do here. We are to choose our own way, and I can't make your choices for you.

I still have faith I just don't feel the need to go to some building with people I hardly like to prove I have faith. I am a believer that no one should tell you how to think and that you must decide yourself what path you want to go down in life. So I agree with your little statement at the end of your post.

I think it does seem much more like you're directed to the Mage side than the Templar side. You have to actively ignore Fiona's offer to meet her at Redcliffe and choose the Templars... because why? I dunno.

Granted, I did do the Templar side first, but it doesn't exactly feel like a natural progression. I will say that I enjoy it more and I think Cole's entrance makes more sense if you meet him in the Fade. Plus, you get Ser Barris.

Anyway, yes. I can see your point, but I prefer the Templar side, even if it seems a bit odd to me. Mostly because I can't recall a reason for you to go to Therinfal other than it being on the map.

Yeah!  That is what made me write this.  I got to thinking about what could have saved it and it really seems like if you DIDN'T realize it was all in your head, then it would have really good.  But I just really didn't like it all.  I didn't like how Dorian was introduced, the bad guy (Clapernia) is not interesting.  i honeslty thought it was becuase it was added very late to give the player some kind of choice, but it seems like it was just completely reworked.  I wonder what it would have been like given the earlier vision (sans the creepy rapish scene referenced in the article).

But then again, I am sure some folks liked it, and was curious if they liked it better than the mage quest and if so, why... (really, to help me overcome my prejudice against the scene...I need some perspective!!!)

For me, I had to pick up Spanish for my degree, and I hated every minute of it. English grammar made so much sense to me that Spanish grammar and vocab were so ... counterintuitive and lacking. I hated that when I wanted to describe something in Spanish, instead of just picking the appropriate word for it, I had to pick a generic term and string on a whole bunch of phrases to define it to what I needed it to be like a dictionary definition.

I like both quests. I prefer having Barris over Fiona just because I'd like to throw dirt in Fiona's face (or maybe throw her off a bridge). However, I almost always default to mages just to get the Samson quest line later...even though I would personally rather recruit the templars.

I ran Champions of the Just not too long ago with my dual-dagger fireball. That one really hit her hard. What hit her was seeing the reactions that her Inner Circle had to Envy-IQ. She didn't think she cared what anybody thought about her, but seeing what Cullen had to say about her really punched her in the gut. Of course it wasn't real, but to her it felt real.

In Hushed Whispers was good too. Seeing the future did add a touch of urgency. HOWEVER, you also learn about the demon army and the assassination plot if you do Champions of the Just.

In an ideal world, I would be able to do Champions of the Just and still get Samson's quest line. I would go with that combo every time.

Yep! I remember those classes being so easy for me. My teacher said that for some learning a language is like a second nature and for others it will take longer. I was one of the ones who caught on fast.

I know German as well as English*and a bit of French and Japanese* so I if I do curse I try to do it in a language no one will understand. Makes me look more like a spaz, but whatever.

I speak Russian, but I moved to the US when I was 10, so I do not know any curse words because I had not learned any yet.

Going to church has nothing to do with it. I simply learned really well where and how to use what speech. For me, cursing is more or less lazy. There are so many wonderful words out there to use and to always default to the same few cuss words and curses or variations of the same creates a habit that can limit vocab IMO. But then, I'm a serious word nerd, so that's just me. I do cuss, but I feel that when you do it almost never, it has more impact when you do. People give you that LOOK like "Woah!"

Yeah, personally I don't curse very much because I prefer to find other words to express my frustrations, too. I save my cursing for when I'm really pissed off and don't feel like working very hard to sugar coat what I say. And you're right, when I do it definitely surprises people when they aren't used to hearing it from me. I don't think I get angry often, though. I don't like stressing myself out, and I like peace and quiet so it sort of extends to how I deal with situations and speech. It's always been a personal choice - I prefer the quiet, and even if a curse word is whispered, it just seems loud in essence.

But I can certainly appreciate people cursing in a humorous manner as long as it isn't directed towards me. I don't mind my friends cursing, and a well-timed curse word can be hilarious. Basically, I like Simon Tam's philosophy in Firefly when Kaylee tells him she's never heard him curse before:

Simon: "I swear when it's... appropriate."

Kaylee: "Simon, the whole point of swearing is that it ain't appropriate."

*Simon sees a statue honoring resident rascal Jayne in a town square*

Simon: "Son of a ******."
