TYVM MightyZan and ninetozero! I had a feeling that time wasn't quite the same in the Fade. And my guesstimates about distance weren't too far off either. (I do think it is a bit weird that all the prominent Inquisition figures go to Halamshiral at the same time, so there's a few days/a week or so where who knows who is in charge. Maybe that's what Quizquisition guy does when we're not around! I mean, Jim would be lost without Cullen there to yell at him.)

Slightly random questions, but you guys are nice (and it is related to the Culleny story I've been writing. If I ever finish it to a degree I'm happy with, I'll post it.) I'm struggling to get a sense of time and distance in game, sometimes. How long would it take to travel from Skyhold to Val Royeaux, for example, assuming a fairly steady pace on horseback? How far is Skyhold from the Valley of Sacred Ashes/Haven? Right at the end,

And for Fort Adamant,

Soo.... I have some very very detailed references for this, so you'll have to let me know just how detailed you want to be. I haven't done those calculations myself for DA:I, but I can share rates of travel and a way of estimating it based on other distances.
In short:
walking: 20 mi/day
horseback: 50 mi/day
by sea: 100 mi/day
Some distances as the crow flies (except where noted):

So last night I talked on a podcast, drank some wine, and decided to write some smutty Cullen fanfiction (Because box wine apparently has that affect on me)
Figured this was the place to share that. ^.^

Math.... I'm glad there are people like you around to figure it out.
To be fair, I haven't done any of the math here. The original links I have to authors are all dead now, so thank the Maker I saved them. I have a couple of Word files worth of distances and references and such. Like I said... lemme know if anyone wants *more* details. I got 'em.
One person used the map scale from the DA RPG books. Another used a pixel to miles scale for the Thedas map. Most of what I have are within Ferelden, tho.
edit: I take that back, at least one of them still exists, in the Alistair group on the old BSN. http://social.biowar...iscussion/6818/

You also have to take into account climate and terrain in those travel times when taken together with distances. There is also the matter of what kind of road one has, if any.
The Butterfield Stage was contracted to carry mail and it took passengers across the wide western US at speed. The times and distances varied pretty widely.
San Fran to LA, 462 miles, 80 hours
LA to Ft. Yuma, 282 miles, 72.20 hours
Ft. Yuma to Tucson, 280 miles, 71.45 hours
Tucson to Franklin, 360 miles, 82 hours
Franklin to Ft. Chadbourne, 458 miles, 126.30 hours
Ft. Chadbourne to Colbert's Ferry, 282.5 miles, 65.25 hours
Colbert's Ferry to Ft. Smith, 192 miles, 38 hours
Ft. Smith to Tipton, 318.5 miles, 48.55 hours
Tipton to St. Louis (railroad), 160 miles, 11.40 hours
You can almost see the impact of the different environments in the travel times and distances because you know they were more or less running the teams at about the same rates.

Yes, this is something else annoying they didn't take into account in DA:I. In the Calling, they're pretty clear that during the winter, you basically can't travel across Ferelden. (and by annoying, of course I mean, unrealistic for fic purposes, whilst being totally awesomely acceptable for gameplay reasons)

Ok guys, as promised here's a couple of the screenies I managed to get last night while playing around with the Cinematic Tools. No photoshop was used - it was all done using flycam's built in DoF, Character Lighting, etc etc:

This one was actually a complete oops:

I don't know. The idea of being with a red lyrium person is like being with someone who isn't the person you knew anymore. It's like being with the man formerly known as Cullen.

Yeah, but it really paints a picture when you think about how it's actually something he wondered about (if you do the Before the Dawn quest line). What if he didn't finally stand up to Meredith? Makes ya really wonder.
To be honest, when I first heard that Cullen was returning in this game I was very happy. But I also had a sneaking suspicion that he would be a baddie (ya know, cuz Bioware). Thank goodness my fears were unfounded!
*edit* Another Cullen, this time the first-kiss scene made more personal with the use of the FoV tool!
