Yeah, when I heard that line the fan came up with about going to her side, I thought it was such a good line that it made me consider changing my world state for a while, just for the poetic justice of it - she died in a tragic sacrifice, he died in another tragic sacrifice, but at least their souls will reunited again. It was such fitting closure to their ill-fated love. Sigh, it's unbelievable that one fan can do something so beautiful with this world state with one single line, but the game can't even be bothered to acknowlege it.

Well... if nothing else, at least I'm confident in not changing my main canon now. My sacrificed Warden is still not acknowleged anywhere, and king Alistair doesn't even appear for me other than in letters, but at least I have leeway to headcanon that the Warden still means something to him even after all this time. I like the thought that he made peace with her death and settled into his marriage eventually (it has been ten years, after all), but with the fake-Calling haunting him, she's been back on his my mind more often than usual lately... it's a comfort that his king cameo being so barebones can afford.

Still so mad at this though, lol. Deleting this character after I tell Fiona about her son's death for science, then going back to my main IQ to cheer myself up with a proper Culleny woo-break.

I had the same feeling upon learning what they scrapped for the original fade sequence on the Templar quest. Gutting.

To be honest I feel like there were a lot of missed opportunities in this game,I still like it but yeah :P Anyway can you still get Calpernia to stand down if you kill Erasthenes? (Did I spell that correctly?)

I had Alistair and an alive Warden in a romance- I tried killing Al off for science (but wouldn't keep the save) to see if his last words were in reference of his love.  I hoped he'd say, "tell her goodbye" or "tell her I love her", but nope.  He just goes off saying "For the Grey Wardens!!!".  He has plenty to say about her beforehand if she's alive, but I was a little disappointed by that.  At least when I went back to pick Hawke, she said "Safe harbors, Isabela" before she kicked the bucket.

And now ya'll know why I won't try to write romance or smut, I'm too used to writing for conciseness :P. I was afraid I was placing that estimate too low last night, I'm glad you and the others spoke up.

Ah, conciseness is still a virtue! And I know some folks who have 1000 word chapters, which makes their stories like over 100 chapters long but easy to read as they update regularly. Every story and writer is different. I think some of it depends on whether you want post as you go and are worried about pulling people in. On the other hand, once you've got someone hooked into a 120,000+ word story, does it really matter how many pieces you've chopped it into? Anyway, I just wanted to add some broader context! :)

I've encountered a problem (of sorts) with trying to read stuff on AO3. I don't like to sit and read fic on my computer, so I'm all about the apps for my tablet. There's an amazing app for FF.net, but the only app I could find that incorporates AO3 isn't that great. Is there an Android app out there that will let me follow and watch stuff on there like on FF.net?

Can't you just download them and read them with a reader like Kindle or the like? They have multiple versions, epub, pdf, mobi. That's what I used to do with ff.n so that I could read on my kindle.

You can subscribe to stories on AO3 if you are signed up for it, which means they should alert you when they update.

You can, I actually have invites to send out, but they are currently down due to their backlog.  Send me a message and when they are back up I can send you one. :)

Oooo thank you! Message sent!

I'm surprised Alistair offered to sacrifice himself at all after he was so passionate about returning to the Warden, lol. Does anyone know if the romanced Warden's letter turns out differently if you let Alistair die in the Fade?

I'm pretty sure I killed him, and she still bugged out at the end.

It probably changes to her saying:

"I'm going to hunt you down."

I could easily pull up the web browser on my tablet and read them that way. The problem is that I have to remember to go back and check to see if there's been an update. If I can manage to sign up, I should get updates.

With the FF.net app, you can browse through works and follow whichever ones you like. Then each time you open up the app it will auto-update and tell you if you have new stuff to read. It's very cool.

I'm still of the opinion that we didn't kill anybody off with that decision. It says "likely." We all know how Bioware works when they use indecisive words like that...  ;)

It sounds like Hawke is the one that's supposed to be sacrifice to me, especially given Flemeth's hint in DA2 about the Abyss and not being afraid to leap etc. I also think they used the word "likely" in case they ever need to bring the sacrificed person back.

Ah, I see. Yeah, I just get email updates from ff.n. Hopefully ao3 can do the same once you're subscribed!  :)

That "likely" really threw me off as well. Based on the other indicators you get, such as "You will start a relationship with Cullen, " for example, it seems like they would have just said, "Hawke will be sacrificed to save your party," or something equally definitive. I don't believe they were just being cheap and doing it to give us false hope. That seems weak. I'm sure they were very conscious of the language they used there, but we won't know why until later, I suppose.

Honestly I never had an issue with letting hawke be the fade sacrifice. Aside from my personal headcanon reasons as to why my Hawke's would do it; Hawke is indirectly responsible for a lot of the things going on in DAI and because of that I can see even the most ruthless and selfish of Hawkes going "I done goofed big time. Let me try and fix this."

I just prefer to keep all my protagonists alive and with their love interest where possible, lol.

For me it's easy. I leave Hawke behind in the fade. It's a no brainer for me for a number of reasons the main one being the way Hawke acts in DA:I is such a disconnect from DA2 it isn't funny.

I don't feel overly attached to Hawke as a character unlike say King Alibear and The Warden.

Hawke was DA's answer to Shepard and it backfired badly. Also don't get me started on the ME3 ending. That alone killed the series for me and killed any attachment I had to the ME cast.

So yeah I leave Hawke in fade.

I do kinda think people are grasping at straws with the wording here. I know some people got shafted with harder choices than others, so it's tempting to cling to phrasing in hopes that you didn't really kill this or that character, but... this is Virmire. This is Mordin versus Wrex. This is Tali versus Legion. BioWare is no stranger to making you kill your darlings to save another.

Time will tell, but I really think it's as simple as, the person left behind dies. At some point, we'll have to make peace with that.

Oh god no, I wouldn't romance a red lyrium Cullen! I'd kill him because that's what he would've wanted, we know he'd never take the stuff willingly... that picture is kinda hot though. I can appreciate fine art and still want to destroy it, LOL!

I can't lie. My reaction to the picture was 'want' Cullen's innate strength and good looks combined with a hint of cruelty, evil twin style? Oh I would go there. It would be a bad bad idea but I would

I'd love for BW to give us a proper bad guy to romance in a later game.

Not my Hawke. :P BW can eff right off with this need to kill Hawke at all costs, it's not gonna happen in my game. Hawke is my number one, I'll keep her alive no matter who I have to sacrifice. A Grey Warden? Sure. My own Inquisitor? Yeah, probably. The whole cast of Inquisition? Hmmmm... yeah okay, if it'll keep my girl alive, let's do this.

Now watch BW do a Weisshaupt DLC where Hawke dies in a cutscene without any player input, and all I can do is watch and cry forever.
