I didn't play TLC, how's he doing there?

 

Argh! My Carver-poo. I would have been grinning like a fool for days if he had been DAI, but like you said it probably would have been tragic and they would have made us do something like choose between Hawke and their sibling at Adamant. I already have the "BioWare are jerks!" feels just thinking about it.

Finally Carver's fate is always dark... Either Templar, either Grey Warden. Both choice sucks. Does anyone know what happen to Templar/Carver? It must've been at least 5 or 6 years he'd been on Lyrium... Seeing how it's difficult for Cullen, it might be as hard for him to get off it (if this is even possible...).

Actually, I find that many "villains" in DA:I is really good. Samson's just Samson & a huge "whatever", but it brings a good measure of Character Development to Cullen so I forgive him for that. Clarel's & Alexius are really well written actually, I always symphatize with them...

Yeah, of those, for some reason, Clarel really really struck me as great, especially how she went out with a bang.

Solas, I still don't know what to make of him. Whatever vision of elven paradise that he's trying to sell, I guarantee that it is most definitely not what Thedas needs right now.

I wouldn't call Carver joining the wardens dark. He's happy that he found a place where he can shine.

It's limited, of course, but he comes through Serault and you can talk to him a few times. He makes some cracks about Hawke, but also seems a bit grown up. It was nice.

Bethany is in the Circle in my main canon, and it's been that way for so long that I can't even imagine it differently. But... this is the one choice I'm still seriously considering changing in my canon. I don't want to send her to the Wardens, she's miserable there. She likes being in the Circle, and I like the sweet person she continues to be there better than the bitter, dry person she becomes in the Wardens. And the final scenes with Orsino when he betrays her are so precious. And changing this messes every headcanon I've built over the years.

 

But at the same time, having Bethany in the Wardens is also the only way I can even make sense of how in the world Hawke would be working with Loghain, of all people. I like what it results in, the Abyss sacrifice is the perfect ending for Loghain, but.... with my world state the way it is, Bethany in the Circle, Hawke having no contact with the Wardens beyond Nathaniel and maybe Janeka, why would Loghain contact Hawke? Why would Hawke be willing to talk to, leave alone work with the kingslayer who almost got her and Carver killed in Ostagar? Nothing adds up. I can probably headcanon the hell out of it, but this quest alone demands so much arm-twisting to make my DAO and DA2 canons work together.

 

That's Inquisition for you, destroying headcanons and forcing grudging world state changes everywhere.

On the whole romancing a bad guy thing, there's this little part of me that really wants someone who is maliciously using the protagonist to get to their goals but makes it seem like they like them. And you don't find out til the last second that they actually are completely ruthless and don't care one iota about you. And then they soil everything and there actually isn't a happy ending its more like a cliff hanger that makes everyone ****** their pants. Like dread wolf x1000000. but that will never happen because there would most definitely be riots in front of Bioware's offices.

That reminded me of Bishop, from NWN 2. Still hope one day we will be able to romance a character like him. He was a total jerk, I loved him

I know. I just said that I would never do that to Fenris but Carver. I don't think I could kill that little shite off. I can already see me stomping around the house and grumbling to myself after I have thrown the controller across the room while Hawke and Carvers expectant faces stare out from the TV screen at me.

It sounds terrible to admit that I'd like that. But it's so dramatic, it would be so interesting. I would want it to happen in the second last game though so that it could all get fixed in the final one.

I dont find it terrible, I'd honestly like it also. If done right, the emotional depth of it could be something really special and heartbreaking. We play Bioware games, we like the drama after all

I don't know, we're pretty much all self-declared masochists at this point to even continue playing these games, knowing they enjoy our pain. The way people have reacted to the Solas romance, we'd probably declare that plotline the romance of the century.

I just prefer to keep all my protagonists alive and with their love interest where possible, lol.

Lol this is why I created a completely ruthless Hawke in the keep with no love interest and everyone in his family dead.  That way I didn't really know him and he had the whole, 'I've been an a** and have nothing to live for' mentality. That way I got my warden Alistair and Stroud didn't have to take the bullet.

I'd love for BW to give us a proper bad guy to romance in a later game.

 

Bioware has almost gone there in two games I've played - Bishop in NWN2 and Lord Scourge in The Old Republic. From what I've read, both of them were supposed to have been romances but they were both cut pre-release. Both have dialog that would definitely fit a romance so you can see where it would have been in-game. And they both were such bamf...good grief...if only.

 

There is a great mod out there that does let you romance Bishop in NWN2 as well as in the expansion Mask of the Betrayer. I played the game vanilla once and then always used the mod afterward...cuz Casavir? Yeah no thanks. 

 

And if you don't know who Sourge is - he's a Sith Lord...so can you imagine a Jedi Knight involved with a Sith Lord? I totally could...
