@curiousartemis sorry if what I wrote offended you. I'm probably thinking that from a dog person's perspective and it's by no means to insult or to say cats are a negative thing. 

 

Maybe "it takes longer for them to warm up to you" is a better phrase? I haven't had cats come up to cuddle with me. Greet me, definitely, but unless I'm busy they have no interest in my company haha. I've had cats most of my life, my first pet was a cat. It's really no fun chasing a cat to try to interact with them, I'm not a fan of that kind of game. But I respect that, they like doing their own thing. I've only had one cat that was a cuddlebug and he was a great friend. I miss that guy...

 

Maybe I have an extreme bias towards dogs because I work my pup. We work together on detection work so my bond with her is pretty deep. I like the power breeds, GSDs, pit bulls, rotweillers, etc. Like if mabari hounds were real I'd be over the moon! I've put a lot more work into my dog than my cat, that's for sure. I mean...I fed my cat out from my hand, pretty much bend to his every whim. He's bitten me plenty more times than my dog ever will. I don't take the bites as an insult, but sometimes it's so crazy and I'm bleeding pretty bad from it and I resigned to think myself not a cat whisperer by any means.

 

I mean I think of Cullen as a dog person because if I were to reach out to touch him I don't think he'd clamp down my hand and do that bicycle kick cats like to do LOL

 

 

I honestly can say that I've never been bitten by a cat and I've had them all my life. My mother runs a rescue and to be honest I have no idea how many cats she has (lol) and I've never been bitten by one of them either. 

 

My cats are all super sweet.

 

My dogs on the other hand are a handful. My Olde English is a what you would call a "power breed" and I had to work hard with him from the day I got him at 8 weeks of age to establish and maintain my alpha status. He's constantly pushing that boundary and I wouldn't want to see what he would do if he for one second thought he had the upper hand. Don't get me wrong, he's a good boy and he loves people and other dogs. But if I let him, he would walk all over us.

That sounds like my experience too. They are wonderful, companionate animals, and excellent friends. CATLADY4LYFE!

Gosh ... Sorry. I wonder why they'd even consider that? If you were likely to use the art for your own purposes, you wouldn't really be contacting them, would you? If that is a concern, then why post your commissioned work publicly?

lol Who knows. Maybe they had an incident in the past where someone did actually steal commissioned work and posted it as their own, so the artist could be paranoid. 

 

I did say the Lavellan reminded me of my own; perhaps they feared I'd go around telling people it was my Lavellan and not the person's the artist drew it for? Who knows!

Cats have personalities My old cat (RIP) studied with me through undergrad. He'd often end up in my lab while I'd work on an assignment. Sometimes he would walk all over my notes and books, and brush himself against my face, and then just plop down on the papers - good luck working when that happened My younger cat doesn't like to cuddle with me (but he just loves to purr for my hubby), but he is very playful, and will chase me around the living room when he feels energetic (he's 5.5 yrs old), trying to catch my feet. He will keep me company and follow me around, though. And, if he's particularly lazy, he'll let me rub his tummy, which is all white and fluffy He's my buddy  

 

I never had a dog, but my grandparents always have at least three around the house. Things can get pretty crazy with three dogs, especially with large breeds

I'm not offended, just hate seeing them get a bad rap! They are incredibly needy and loving creatures. My cats are my kids. I'm especially emotional about them right now since one has cancer and it's been difficult to deal with.

 

I'm sorry to hear about your ailing companion. It's never easy to go through that. 

 

And no worries about a bad rap...when I walk my dog downtown there's always someone who's offended by her. I've seen people act ridiculous...and it's not fun. Once while she was a puppy, she was just bouncing around in a dog park and this guy just straight up kicked her claiming "she was about to attack!" Thankfully there were people who saw. She wasn't hurt but dang that memory is hard to wash out. This wasn't the first time someone thought it'd be OK to hit my dog just because she looked intimidating, either. Good news is that people are less prejudiced about pit bulls nowadays...maybe because Bioware put mabaris up as their poster dog and they look strikingly similar

I hate this kind of prejudice against cats My cats are more than just spunky and cute. They constantly surprise me with how much they love me. They're so incredibly needy it's ridiculous. I'd definitely never use the word "aloof" to describe them. They're pretty much love sponges.

 

 

Well, turns out I was right to feel wary about contacting that artist. They pretty much wagged the finger at me and told me not to repost it as my own. Like, okay, I was giving you a compliment... sheesh.

I totally agree about cats. It is true that they sometimes take more strongly to certain people and some cats might want more alone time than others, but if a cat likes you then it REALLY likes you. I thought it was more like Cullen's personality than anything, hah. Cats to dogs are what introversion is to extroversion to me. My Phillie tends to run away from my sister but will actively seek me out to greet me with head bumps and floor rolls. It is an honor to be so loved by a feline. I used to think I was a dog person, but after getting my two sweeties I've realized I'm just as into cats. Plus, over the years I've seen several videos of cats being super protective of their owners/young children to the point of attacking perceived threats. That's loyalty right there.

 

Also, sorry to hear about your unpleasant interaction with the artist;; Was this on Tumblr? Just as a note, most artists would probably prefer you reblog their original posts on Tumblr instead of reposting, even if you include a credit. It's easy for bloggers to delete the description with the credit links and with reblogs it's also easier to click back to the original creator if they're already on Tumblr. I'm sure they didn't mean to be rude about it, it's just that artists often deal with a lot of reposting on Tumblr and every reblog of a repost takes traffic away from the artist who already has a post up. But if you didn't repost, I'm sorry, just ignore me LOL;; As an artist myself I totally understand that you meant well, I'm sure she did, too.

Ooooh animals are a topic this morning? I am such an animal person. Grown up with pretty much everything from pigs to peacocks, at one point we took care of a llama. I'd say I'm more of a dog person than a cat person though I do love both. I sinply have a preference for bigger animals now that my spine makes it difficult to bend or lift, and dogs tend to be bigger than cats.

I also think Cullen would be a cat person...eventually He strikes me as someone who'd say he doesn't have time for animals but would slowly form a bond with a stray cat or something. I loved the idea of Skyhold having it's own cat that would just wander around everywhere.

Cat: Mrrow.

He looks up from his desk and sees a cat staring back at him.

Cullen: How did you get in here?...*sighs* I need to speak with the Inquisitor about that hole in my roof...

He opens the front door and starts to make motions with his hands.

Cullen: Come on now you...out You go...shoo...I have nothing for you here.

Cat: Mrrow.

The intruder instead begins to purr and rubs up against Cullen's legs.

Cullen: *sighs*

He tentatively picks up the cat, holding it far away from him as possible and places it outside.

Cullen: Go bother the cook, I'm sure he has something for you to eat.

Cat: Mrrow.


He closes the door and gets back to work.


A few days later...


Cat: Mrrow.

Cullen: Oh for goodness sake, how many times do I need to put you outside?

The cat ignores Cullen and continues to groom itself on top of his bookcase.

Cullen: You're going to make me move my chair to get to you again, aren't you?

Inquisitor: Cullen?

The door suddenly opens.

Inquisitor: Is this a bad time? I heard you talking to someone.

Cullen: Inquisitor? No I- *blushes*

Cat: Mrrow.

Cullen: *coughs* I'm just having a bit of an animal problem.

Inquisitor: Wait.

An amused smirk appears across her face.

Inquisitor: You were...talking to the cat?

Cullen: Trying to get rid of it more like. No matter what I do it keeps sneaking back in.

Inquisitor: Well, have you thought about letting him stay in your office for a while? He obviously likes you.

Cullen: Inquisitor I have no time for pets and if you haven't noticed already I'm not a exactly a cat person.

Inquisitor: I don't think you get a say Cullen *smiling* it looks like he's already made himself at home.

 

Cullen: *sighs* Fine. As long as he doesn't interfere with my work...he can stay, I suppose.

Inquisitor: Don't worry, I'll still drop by to give you attention if that's what you're worried about.

She runs her fingers through his hair.

Cullen: Very funny.


Later that week...


Cat: mmmrRROOow.

The cat watches cullen eat his lunch, as he does every day.

Cullen: I'm not the Inquisitor you know that doesn't work on me.

Cat: Mrrow.

Cullen:...

He gently places his plate on the floor.



The next day...


Cat: Mrrow.

The cat is perching on Cullen's desk looking at him with adorable eyes.

Cullen:...I put a pillow in here specifically for you to sleep and sit on yet you still choose my desk instead.

Cat: Mrrow.

Without looking away from his paperwork he strokes the cat's back.

Cullen: You don't tell the Inquisitor about this, I won't hear the end of it.

The cat purrs at cullen continues to stroke him.



Some time later...

 

Inquisitor *opening the front door* Cullen do you have a moment?

Cullen: Inquisitor careful, Leo is behind the door.

Inquisitor: Leo? You called him Leo?

Cullen: Well I had to call him something, couldn't keep calling him "that blasted cat"

Inquisitor: *smiling* Leo as in "lion"?

cullen: What?

Inquisitor: Nothing, I just find this side of you adorable.

 

Leo hops on Cullen's desk

 

Cullen: *smiling warmly* Well, as cats go, he's fine I suppose.

 

He gives him a pet

 

Cullen: It's funny, I never particularly liked them to be honest .The last cat I had the misfortune to pet, damn near scratched off my upper lip. Ghastly little beast, it was. Stayed far away from them ever since.

Inquisitor: Hold on a moment, is that how you got your scar?

Cullen: I-*blushes* I'd appreciate it if you kept that story to yourself Inquisitor. I'd still like the respect of my soldiers.

Inquisitor: *grinning* What if I said it was possessed by a demon?

Cullen: You're lucky I love you, you know.
