I changed the order for my current Cullen romance to the way Nine suggested and wow! I love it, I'm not a rp'er but it seemed to fit just right for my quizzy. Some banters have changed though, some of them I hadn't realised were romance specific and I do miss them but I prefer this new way, Cullen and mage Sienna just seem to have connected better for me *happy dance*.

I was spam clicking random NPC's before the romance was locked in but after the chess scene etc and Cabot (bartender) makes a comment about some people not being happy that I find time to lay with my allies (not exact quote but that's the just of it), I lol'd

I have Sera in my party a lot this time around and took her to the ball, her introduction made me titter lol. I still drag Dorian everywhere, I adore him, he is definately my quizzys best friend along with Cass. It's probably random as I don't control or change tactics or anything but Dorian always seems to manage to catch me with his Barrier spell, no matter where I've ended up on the battlefield, I imagine him yelling "for goodness sake woman will you stand at peace for one damned minute!" I reckon he is under strict instructions from Commander Cullen to protect Quizzy at all costs  he has even sacrificed himself on occasion

Off on a high dragon hunt today as Sienna wants to get drunk with Bull, I love how AWR manges to sound that little bit drunker, slurring a little more after each drink lol.

What change? I would be interested to hear what changes you made in the romance you now like better.

So I am curious, I am playing a female warrior who is romancing Cullen, but I plan on becoming a Templar. I know you can talk to him about it on becoming a Templar and all, but can it make him drop the romance? Since his whole romance arc obviously has a lot to do with him going off Lyrium, I was wondering if it will cause a problem.

Cullen romance spoilers (?)

Thanks! I really love Cass as a Templar and wanted to run a Warrior/Templar but since I am a human female, I don't care for any other romance options (that and I just love Cullen, reminds me way to much of Alistair only sexier  ) and don't want my woman to have no love in her life, lol.

The main change was not to lock in the romance until after completing his lyrium quest, after Adamant. I still flirted with him beforehand, chess scene etc but avoided the "Lets talk about us" option until after Abyss. His dialogue changes ever so slightly as did my mage quizzys, nothing huge, just little things but it did feel much more fitting for me. I always do Abyss before doing Wicked anyways so I still got my dance :) The romance seems to pace better especially since neither Cullen nor my Quizzys are particularly forward in addressing their feelings for one another. The only time anything felt a wee bit odd was just after the kiss scene, next visit to Cullen he takes you away for his next quest. I'm okay with that happening as, for me, once their feelings are acknowledged it's like the floodgates are opened and all about making up for lost time lol.

As Nine had said, it's not going to be for everyone and you need to be patient and wait for the "woo-breaks" but it's definately worth giving it a try imo :)

Although from real life perspective, I don't think become a Templar is a good idea if you want him to quite Lyrium. Fighting addiction is already the most difficult battle, if you have to date someone who still uses the substance...It become impossible. That's why your sponsor should be someone who has stayed clean for long enough.

But that's just the compulsive part of me speaking...

Agree. I could never do it, myself. Which was a shame, because, daaayam, templar is my fave warrior spec.

I totally agree about cats. It is true that they sometimes take more strongly to certain people and some cats might want more alone time than others, but if a cat likes you then it REALLY likes you. I thought it was more like Cullen's personality than anything, hah. Cats to dogs are what introversion is to extroversion to me. My Phillie tends to run away from my sister but will actively seek me out to greet me with head bumps and floor rolls. It is an honor to be so loved by a feline. I used to think I was a dog person, but after getting my two sweeties I've realized I'm just as into cats. Plus, over the years I've seen several videos of cats being super protective of their owners/young children to the point of attacking perceived threats. That's loyalty right there.

I used to think I was a dog person too, I mean, we did have two when I was growing up. Then a couple of years ago my mom decided I needed a pet and also wanted to rescue one of the strays in the neighborhood. She let him out of the carrier and he walked in huge circle around the room to avoid her, hopped right up on my lap and went to sleep. And he hadn't been to the vet yet, so he still had this weird, sticky stuff on his fur. But he loves me. :)

Funny thing is, my Amell's and Hawke's used Lyurim a lot and since I learned more about the stuff my Insquistors hardly use them to power their spells. That is something I just noticed lol it's funny how that turned out!

My mage never use lyrium in DAI. But my elf mage Warden in DAO made them herself and drink it like water. In the final battle she literally use the biggest bottle and chuck them down every three minutes...which come to think of it...is hilarious. How is she still alive...

There's enough in some of the lore to justify Loghain's concerns about Orlesian troops entering Ferelden without the other things. Coming to help a country with the blight has been turned into an invasion at least a couple of times once the blight was defeated.

I just could never trust him enough to recruit him, not just because of Ostagar (and there were options beside what he did such as waiting for Eamon's reinforcements), but for some of the other things he did. I felt certain he directly approved Howe's slaughter of the Couslands to remove them as rivals, as well as the poisoning of Eamon, the Tevinter slavers in the alienage, and trying to assassinate Maric's remaining son, Alistair, etc. However good his reasons to distrust the Orlesians, he literally would have done anything to Ferelden to stop them, imo.

The thing about Loghain is, his motive is not like Cory's "I wanna be GOOOOOD!". Loghain's so multilayered that when I hate him at first sight, I grew lots of sympathy to him at the end of my first PT & only killed him because of... well, Alistair. I'm not saying that he did everything for good, he had committed many errors, many terrible crimes. The thing with DA:O is that even our Warden is not a purely "Hero" person. The line between Villain & Hero is very very thin in DA:O. I can easily imagine the same story told from Loghain's POV & things can be easily interchanged. I still love Loghain & Meredith & DA:I's "secret Villain" to be the 3 best written "villains".

Well, history is written by whoever wins the war. Imagine if Hawke loose, Meredith's the hero.

Actually, it'll be quite an interesting challenge to try writing a fanfic on DA:O but seen from Loghain's perspective...

I think he likes physical contact - craves it, even, if his hurried and passionate first kiss is any indication. He's careful about appearances and probably prefers to maintain a professional distance in front of others, but I like to think that he rather enjoys it now that he knows what he's been missing all these years.

Cullen strikes me as a very tactile sort of person. He's always doing something with his hands - whether that's resting them on the hilt of his blade, sifting through paperwork, mindlessly rubbing his forehead or his neck, punching bookcases, etc. These are all tactile sensations that are associated with work and duty but also come very naturally to him. Now look at how he swoops in to feel the Inquisitor for the first time during their kiss, how he calms down when the Inquisitor puts her hand on his chest and tells him not to take lyrium, how he looks so relieved when the Inquisitor reaches out to reassure him when he's worried that his withdrawal episode hurt her opinion of him. Touches associated with nothing but the promise of love, companionship, or support, so different from the sensations he's used to experiencing. He's never felt anything like this before emotionally, but it's also why I like to headcanon that he's never felt anything like this before physically, either. At least, not since his childhood horseplaying sessions with his siblings, anyway. Ymmv with that, of course, but either way, I think he likes the touchy. :P

Owh yeah, I can imagine this too. He must be quite deprived of such things ever since he was a wee kid. I don't think that the Templar Order is a good place to get all cuddle... Nearly forget that we got to hug him twice in-game... Too bad we don't get the option to hug him during his Perseverance quest, he seems to badly need it. No really, a hugs at moments like that may bring wonders.

I hate this kind of prejudice against cats :( My cats are more than just spunky and cute. They constantly surprise me with how much they love me. They're so incredibly needy it's ridiculous. I'd definitely never use the word "aloof" to describe them. They're pretty much love sponges.

You know, one of the dogs I grew up with was aloof. He was not the happily barking ones & jumping everywhere type. He was really intelligent & aloof & sometimes I picture him more cat-like than dog like. When we throw stick for him to chase, he never did (the other 2 dogs, his brothers, will always do). Dad called him our "Giant Cat". But of course we never had a cat at home so maybe Dad just didn't know how cats are really like.

He still loves his ears scratched however.

This is why the IQ's death should had been an option, I would never choose that for my canon...but I would had loved to see the ending if she or he had died and how each LI reacted to the news.

How do you guys think Cullen would react?

Very badly. I had this horrible cutscene image in my head. The quizzy get her funeral pyre under the night sky. Everyone there said a quiet word or two. Leliana sang in Uthenara. Cullen just stand at the back with a stoic face, leaning on a tree, saying nothing. Then everyone left & he stay until the embers went cold. He fell to his knees & in frustration hit the trunk with his fist, letting out a single sob and a single tears. Then from his pocket he pull out his lucky coin that he gave her, now bloody. Leliana gave it back to him because the quizzy asked her to give it back to him in case... He put the coin on the pyre. He had lost that part of himself now. Forever.

*I'm a cruel person*

What change? I would be interested to hear what changes you made in the romance you now like better.

Nine expressed it far more eloquently than I'll be able to, but since I don't remember what page her comment was on, here's my take:

The content of the scenes doesn't vary much; you still get the heart lines and there are only minor changes in the dialogue. But I find the subtext to be especially touching when the romance hasn't yet started: their interactions make clear how deeply they care about each other, even if they're not ready to admit it. The IQ touching Cullen's chest in Perseverance is all the more meaningful because it's unusual, and you see that in his surprised and happy response – a response that makes less sense (to me) if they're accustomed to hugging and kissing. (I'm definitely in the "Cullen craves physical contact" camp. I love how often he hugs the IQ.)

The follow-up scene on the battlements is even more rich in delicious subtext; again, the dialogue doesn't change all that much, but it's very easy to read into the things they're not saying. Whatever Cullen wants to say first, he chokes on, with “... this sounded much better in my head.” The “I like the man you are now.” “Even after?” exchange, for the warmth of his reply. The shy way he asks her how she's holding up. When I played it the first time I half expected to have the option to start the relationship then and there.

As it stands, I like imagining that they both walk away from that conversation kicking themselves: “”I'm serious?” Oh, smooth, Evelyn. And what possessed me to slap his arm?” “”If there's anything I can do, Inquisitor”... Maker's Breath, I should have just kissed her.”

I like the extra beat that it adds to the development of their relationship. They've been slowly working their way towards each other, and then the lyrium issue comes along to set them back a pace. It gives Cullen, in particular, a good reason to be less forward: now she knows what a hot mess he is.

Mmmm... hot mess.

Whew, both you & Nine expressed very well.

What's actually touching is that the fact you still choose to start a relationship with him even after knowing him in that state. I headcannon that one reason he never do the first step is that actually he realize that he's a mess. But for her to choose to start a relationship after knowing his mess, well, that's something ain't it.

Wow, look at these RP Generators ideas:

What Really Happened in Game

Cullen reveals a secret to Inquisitor.

Inquisitoris a member of the royal family and Cullen is a lowly peasant.

Inquisitor is the leader of an organization. Cullen is their loyal second-in-command

What Needs To Happen (BIOWAAAAAAREEE!)

Cullen is the lead singer and Inquisitor is the guitarist in a band.

Inquisitor, a knight in shining armor, must rescue the distressed Cullen.

Inquisitor suspects Cullen is a werewolf. Cullen is actually hiding a more mundane secret.

Inquisitor is a barista at Cullen's favorite coffee shop. (The SimS 4)

Cullen is under a terrible curse. Inquisitor knows how to cure it. -----> THIS!

It's worth being said that you can delay the date scene. He will bring it up, but you can save it for later so they aren't back to back.

I don't think they're in any way related. You just don't have to go with him when he brings up traveling to Ferelden. You can say "later" and then go back any time you want and re-trigger it by saying "ok let's go now." It stays available as a heart option after he brings it up.

I just realized the dialogues is not the same romanced & non romanced. In romanced he seems to not wanting to talk about it at all & the quizzy reply & there are several exchanges in the convo. In the non-romanced the quizzy ask, he reply in one phrase

The thing is that when I talk to him post adamant he directly talk about the possession. No option to start romance before the "If I get Possessed" convo.

Some did, because they're doing either the "ass-quisitor", some other because they're afraid that Cullen might die. Some people don't know about Cullen's Plot Armour before finishing the game.
