I can't bring myself to play through the game using the American accent... The voice actress is good, her huskier voice is appropriate for intimidation. But, it sounds like it belongs to a rough, uneducated person - certainly not a noblewoman... :)

Well, my voice sounds similar irl and I can assure you that I can sound aggressive at times and still come off as a confident and educated business woman...it's my job.  ;)

The VA does a great job doing the same. I'll have to go back and record the ball scene for you guys where she has to be all political.

Sorry, I just took a little offense to that since my voice irl is very similar.

As is mine. Just because I speak in a husky manner does not mean I agree with said voice. Sides I tend to make fun myself then take offense to whatever it is.

So yes I probably do have one in my mouth, some where. Would explain why I cough. :P

So a British accent is educated, and American is not? Um, are you sure you want to go there?

I like the American female voice, though it definitely one I'd be more inclined to use for Dwarves and Qunari because they look so much more badass than humans and elves.

Um, eww and ugh! I hate that voice. Sounds like she has a d!ck stuck down her throat. And it an't Cullen's

I can appreciate that it's not a voice you'd like to have on your character, I prefer to play with AWR's voice set, too (since it's closer to my voice) but maybe in the future you could express your distaste without being quite so vulgar about it. Your description was rather crass, and It came off as mean to MelissaGT, who kindly provided the video, as well as others who might be fans of Sumalee's performance.

Everybody has different tastes, right?

Overall, I would agree...however I've started to pick the non-standard voices depending on the character backstory I choose.

The way I look at it, is that all of these characters hail from the Free Marches. Varric has an American accent, so therefore an American accent could work for any of them. It all depends on what you're going for.

Based on what I've told you guys about Raven's character, could you actually see her using the "standard" voice? I just can't.

I've got the bog standard "Fereldan/Free Marcher" British accent... I wouldn't describe myself as sounding/being educated in any way, shape, or form, LOL!

I dunno, it just doesn't sound as romantic to me as Narcia described LOL!

Sorry! Maybe I had rose coloured glasses (headphones) on while remembering that one  It didn't sound as romantic coming out of my laptop speaker, I have to admit. lol I do like the sentiment a lot though.

No worries, I just like my voice so I guess that's why I got a bit offended. I can play up all sorts of different voices. I do a great "valley girl," like OMG!

Naw, I don't think she took over him. I believe the datamined description that she really is dead now.

I don't think she took over him either and I generally am keen to believe that she was killed but when it comes to data mining I could imagine that description for Origin's fight with Flemeth, if scripted, would most definitely say "warden killed Flemeth" :D The most likely course of action for me is that Flemeth was killed but Mythal was preserved for Morrigan. One think that makes me hesitate is that it can be pretty sucky for those romancing Morri with their warden (including myself), since that might complicate their relationship. Just a tad

Well I apologize if I offended you. That was not my intention. More of a general comment then meant to offend you or anyone. Damn net for doing a poor job of conveying on something is said.

Oh, my... Lemme just take my foot out of my mouth, cause I think I managed to shove it all the way down my throat...

I loved Jennifer Hale's voicing of Shepard, and that was an American accent. And her pitch is slightly lower. Her voice was awesome for an intimidating character, but she was also great at delivering diplomatic lines.

But I cannot enjoy the American VA in DA:I the same way. I cannot quite put my finger on the reason why. Is it because the accent sounds just a bit out of place for me in a fantasy setting? Is it because the delivery is a bit wooden at times? Or is it simply because I want to have Hale voicing the character?

Anyway, I've spoken out of turn, and I apologize if I've offended :)

I dunno, I've not heard enough of the American version enough or the backstory/way you play your character to form an opinion on it.

She's the black sheep of her family...has more fun getting into bar brawls than doing "noble stuff." She's always shirked at any sort of responsibility. She was pushed (forced) into going to the Conclave and it took her a long time to come to terms with being part of the Inquisition. She thought Cullen was a complete stick in the mud (or had a stick right up his you know whatey) for quite a long time. She didn't care what anybody thought about her...till she ran Champions of the Just. What she saw there, especially with Cullen, really threw her for a loop. After getting to Skyhold, his first flirt really got to her, but she didn't know how to react to it. He was getting under her skin and she didn't know what to make of it She and Bull were "friends with benefits," but never started anything solid. Helping Cullen with his addiction issues actually helped her to see him in a different light, and that's when the relationship turned into more.

I'm going to record some of the ball scenes for you guys.

And that is a perfectly valid and reasonable criticism, thank you. I like Sumalee's voice myself, especially in certain lines, but I feel hers is one of the few that the direction could have been better on. There are lots of polite and even constructive ways to say someone's performance doesn't appeal to you, and I think that's all anyone's asking here.

Edit: And btw, I'd love to have had Hale voicing the IQ as well, but I adore her voicing of Crem enough to not mind. To me, Sumalee's a nice change of pace, and I have no problem with her voicing any of the races if the IQ has the right personality. The accents of Thedas are all over the place and there's no reason to limit even a human noble to just one accent.

It's just the fact that the description is very specific about it being the end of Flemeth's story.

I quite like the American voice. It took a while to get used to since it's deeper (darker, lower, whatever the word is for it) than the British once, but now I think I actually prefer that one. With the British voice there were some instances where I thought the tone of voice didn't suit the dialogue, but I haven't encountered that at all with the American voice (both VAs are really, really good though).

It's a matter of taste, I guess.

I like both voices and I like that they sound pretty different. I can imagine using any voice for any race and I generally love husky voices on very feminine characters. Yet, for some reason, it takes me a moment to get used to voice of my protag in this game. No idea why, since usually I roll with the flow. However after playing my human and elf I can't imagine playing another character with AWR voice. I wonder why. Maybe because we have a choice this time round, as well as the fact that we can play so drastically different characters (i.e. races). So I am definitely rolling with Sumalee on my next.

Here have a squinty eye Cully-Wully (that's Sera's influence, I swear!)

out of likes but LIKE and agreed,

there are a lot more polite ways to say a voice doesn't appeal to you instead of saying that you have a weewee in ur mouth or that you sound like a dumbarse
