Oh man, he wants to help his people. Who have all been dead for thousands of years. The time travel notion makes a scary amount of sense.
Hmmm... who's actually his people?

Since we were discussing Janeway earlier... ![]()
"Time travel. From my first day on the job as captain I promised myself I'd never let myself get
caught up in one of these God-forsaken paradoxes. The future's the past, the past is the future.
It all gives me a headache."- Captain Janeway, ST Voyager
Hmmm... who's actually his people?
The Elven gods, because he's the Dread Wolf, an Elven god, lol.
Hmmm... who's actually his people?
Presumably the original elves. Certainly not the Dalish nor the city elves.
See, I like that! I liked the guy, but I also love the idea of him wanting to reverse things essentially killing everyone by having them all cease to exist. He'd make such a wonderfully morally grey antagonist, especially to those who romanced him!
So they "reset" the story field a la J. J. Abrams with Star Trek?
I feel like it would be more poignant for him to dealt with whilst we're still playing as the Inquisitor, but if his plan goes ahead (and we're to get a choice in it's outcome) then it would need to happen in the final DA game ever released.
If they don't resolve my romance with him while I'm still "me," I'm going to be very put out. ![]()

I always thought "his people" were just elves in general...who knows.
So this is saying that Solas' plan is to "fix" the past by changing the present...and then returning back to the past...when our IQ "fixed" the future and traveled back to the present...
GOOD GRIEF I hate time paradoxes!
I LOVE them
(as long as they're internally consistent
)
edit: Gonna be a geek here and point out that 2015 is the year of the future from Back to the Future 2!

Naw, he very clearly tells the IQ that the current elves are not his people.

Pretty much. His people are the ancient elves, the ones of the empire long dead. This era is too far removed from what the elves once were for him to really connect to them, I believe.

It also depends on how much of Thedas the old Elven ruled, if it was just the areas we've seen/heard about then they could reset it, and still have us go else where in Thedas that's not been seen on the map without any problems.

They hurt me in my brain-pan... ![]()
Oh gosh now you guys will make me punch Solas. Do you want me to punch Solas? (Not my IQ, but she wants to punch Solas.)
I wish IQ could say, "I've had enough of your disingenuous assertions". That would make me so happy. Punching a god never felt so good!

We need Doc Brown!

Given how he talks about the Dalish and Briala etc ... and not considering himself to be "one of them" and looking at how he regards Abelas, I'm gonna go with the Ancient Elves theory.

I wanted to do that to the loot playing bard in our tavern, LOL!
I just read the last few pages and...well I will let Halinia's facial expression speak for me.

See, I like that! I liked the guy, but I also love the idea of him wanting to reverse things essentially killing everyone by having them all cease to exist. He'd make such a wonderfully morally grey antagonist, especially to those who romanced him!
It's certainly possible. Time manipulation magic was touched upon twice within the game, so with enough power (which is certainly feasible with Mythal and FH's powers), he could theoretically shift back to the past.
It also depends on how much of Thedas the old Elven ruled, if it was just the areas we've seen/heard about then they could reset it, and still have us go else where in Thedas that's not been seen on the map without any problems.
All of Thedas was ruled by the elves at one time in history, at least till the humans came from the North and carved their niche onto the continent.
If they don't resolve my romance with him while I'm still "me," I'm going to be very put out.
You and me both, sister. Even if there's no complete resolution until a later DA game, I'm hoping for some kind of encounter between the Quizzy and Solas.

I love this story idea... but honestly, I doubt they'd "reset" the whole Universe. Seeing how pissed folks have been about losing "their" characters and LIs over the past few games, that would be supremely risky. Plus, would you start the next story back at the beginning of time, or in the new "present" and have all the characters meet each other again, as different people with different lives?
Part of why I love this idea is that... I could see him doing it, even tho it seems like the utterly wrong thing to do. And, I could see why he would do it. And I don't think it makes him a black hat wearing villain. I also don't think the storytellers would ultimately let him go through with it. And so we'd still "save the world."
Time paradoxes make me think too hard. So he tells the IQ (even unromanced) "whatever happens, yada yada." If he were to erase the present, then the IQ presumably wouldn't even end up the IQ (or possibly even alive), so why even say that to him/her?

What if we go North then?

You guys really don't think Bioware will have the IQ and Solas interact with each other before the next game? I think it will happen 100%, Bioware will certainly have a meeting come up in a DLC...I BELIEVE, lol!
