Wow, my parents wouldn't even let me have a Nintendo. My first "gaming" experience was when I started dating my ex and he had a Playstation...with FFVIII. Then I played FFVII on my own. When the PS2 came out I purchased that with my own money and so on. I didn't get into PC gaming til about 4 years ago.
To this day my parents still don't understand why I play games. But they can't say anything. Really, the only things I have in common with my mother are a love for animals, vintage perfumes, and muscle cars...
I have an older brother who also games, but the rest of my family is stumped by it (he's also the only other person who uses a computer for anything besides shopping or social media.) They play games, but "normal" things like Monopoly. We had a third hand DOS based PC when the girls were little, and I'd get freeware educational games for them. When we finally got our first Windows computer, I started picking up things like Oregon Trail and Carmen San Diego for them too, plus a few simple computer games. I just find that kind of interactive learning kept them more interested.
